The last few days I have noticed a change in the steering but just slightly and now when I go over 60kmph It sounds like I have a flat tyre but all tyres are fully aired. It makes this noise on a straight flat road as well as any other type. What could this be?

Hi.Is the noise coming from the front or rear?I am not a mechanic by trade but it could be something as simple as maybe needing a wheel balance and wheel alignment.I would suggest taking it to a reputable mechanic or a Suzuki dealership. You need to diagnose the problem and although dealerships charge more than normal mechanics you get better peace of mind as well as warranty on the repair.I am sorry I cannot answer your question but it is like asking how long is a piece of string. The car needs to be looked at and more than likely it will be something simple and cheap.

Overall, I know of no Problems with the Suzuki Swift. So long as it has been serviced correctly all it's life. Parts seem to be very cheap compared with other makes of cars. They do NOT have a timing belt, so that saves You a lot of money. They have a timing chain running in oil...I replaced the two belts and idler pulley at around 140,000klms. I bought the new parts from the local car parts shop and fitted by a local Mechanic. . Make sure the engine oil and filter are changed at the correct period or sooner. Always use the same oil - exactly the same . You can have the air filter cleaned when the oil is changed, unless You drive on lots of dusty roads. Not forgetting the spark plugs that need changing on all cars. The Swift does NOT use the expensive plugs many cars use but the standard spark plugs which is a huge saving. I replaced My old Swift with a new one last year. I should have kept the old one too, as it is still being driven locally with about 180,000klms on it. Best part is that they are made in Japan, not Korea or Malaysia etc... You won't hear many if any complaints about the Suzuki Swift. If they are serviced correctly they are made to last.

Check the log book to see if it has been serviced all its life. A car with low kilometers that has NOT been serviced at the correct period [or sooner] or even worse still, has NOT BEEN serviced - that is a MISSED SERVICE .... is a major wear problem, that will happen later in life. If it has been serviced and looked after correctly then the Suzuki swift is one of the BEST CARS on the road, made in JAPAN, japanese quality means a lot..... the genuine Suzuki parts I have bought, plus the non genuine parts have all been quite reasonable in price. [cheap compared to many cars] European car parts can be VERY VERY Expensive, so look at the plate to see where they are made. Many Holdens and Fords are now made in Europe so beware. If You are looking to purchase a Suzuki Swift, in good condition, keep looking til You find the one You want.....The quality isn't just there in many other makes... Suzuki is at the top in My Books.

Does 2011 Suzuki timing belts need to be changed past 100,000 Klms ?
Is it expensive if so ?

TheAnswerIs
TheAnswerIs

No. The engines in the Swift use a timing chain that should last as long as the car. As per 99% of cars, the accessory drive belt will need replacement as per service book schedule and this isn't expensive.

BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

As stated above, Suzuki have fitted timing chains which run in engine oil and can outlast the vehicle, unlike the expensive timing belt renewal in other cars. You can just enjoy driving Your suzuki swift past 100,000 klms knowing that a timing belt is not going to wear and break. Suzuki swift's are made in Japan and that is where the best vehicle's are made... BUGBUYER LEE

2008 Suzuki Swift 1.5l Auto Overheating problems
For the last few weeks our swift has been having some random overheating issues. IT would go right into the red, if we stop the car for a minute or so the temp would drop right back down to half. there is also no heat from the heater. I figured it would be caused by the Thermostat being faulty. I completely flushed the system, replaced the thermostat (Which is a crappy job BTW) filled the system with a really good quality coolant, performed an oil, filter and plug change at the same time and re-assembled everything. The car ran for about 20 mins and then started with the same problem. When running the car the top radiator hose feels hot and the lower quite cool, The interior heater doesn't seem to work either. (Car only has 85000kms) Could it be caused by the water pump? In most other cars I have worked on the pump has started leaking well before it has jammed up?

Any advice would be great

3 answers
TheAnswerIs
TheAnswerIs

It could be the water pump. Is the accessory drive belt slipping? Take the radiator cap off when the engine is cold. Start the car up and after it warms up (temp half-way on gauge) the thermostat should open and coolant should flow rapidly along inside top radiator tank.

Weber

Did you work out the problem as i have the same problem but not overheating but verry little heat from the heater ?

Nick Shepherd

It still does it occasionally. All the belts seem ok, no slipping noises. I even had it checked out by the local suzuki dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It's winter now so will see how it goes when it starts warming up.

Hi my wife has a 2013 Swift about 9 months now but for the last 2 months its been smelling like a damps scent....when i checked it out i noticed a wet patch under the backs mats both sides but could not find where the water is coming in from...Can anyone tell me why this is happening please ?

2 answers

Did you buy a new or second car? there should be no patch as such. it is flowing carpet. unless, you bought a second car, they fixed it by patching up.
You should leave a heater on, for few hours and whenever it is sunny, leave the windows downs and if your mrs got blower, try to dry blow the whole carpet.
Also, check all the rubbers ( seals), around the door, boot. does your car have Reverse sensors? if yes, check if water is coming thorough them.,
Take it to service department, if it is still under warranty.

BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

Normally this shouldn't happen as the bodies are very well sealed. If the car is used, it may have been in an accident at some time and the seal has been broken and not repaired correctly. The sealant that is used may look like it is still sealed but maybe water enters when You go thru some water, so the water may go upwards and then run down thru the sealant. it can be at the top of the inner mudguard...Just clean the sealant [white on MY car]. Best to use a rag with some alcohol or methylated spirits on it.. it will dry very fast. Then go over the sealant with some silicon. I just use My finger to spread the silicon about. Doesn't matter how thick the silicon is... white or clear or black all OK...
The silicon dries fairly fast in the hot weather. Cover as much of the sealant that You can.. try to do it all.. Reverse sensors just sit in the rear bumper and can cause no problems at all. If You can take the rear mats and underfelt out to dry. or place some paper towel under it. Replace the paper towel every day until it stays dry...

I have a grinding noise when I put it in all gears. The noise goes when I push in the clutch. Is the problem gear box or clutch race bearing. 1993 swift 1.3?

2 answers

seems like it. get the gear box checked up. what was the last time gear box was serviced?

BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

If it was the clutch release bearing it would make a noise when You pushed the clutch pedal in. Having the noise ALL the time sounds like gearbox problem. a worn bearing in the gearbox if it does it all the time. If it only makes the noise when the car is moving it is another problem. Wheel bearing which is fairly simple to fix unless You have let it go too long... You don't normally service gearboxes these days and many are sealed.
Unless the gearbox has leaked thru a seal and has run out of oil... NOT GOOD..

1 answer
BUGBUYER
BUGBUYER

Naturally, any electrically problem can be very difficult to fix. I would try to find a hazard lights fuse and take it out. Otherwise you could pull the car apart and not find it. It could be a relay problem as the hazard lights don't use the ignition system to work, like Blinkers do. I'm not sure what type of unit is used for the hazard lights. Have you used the Hazard lights a lot? it could be the hazard switch that is faulty or a loose wire on it.

I have a 2012 1.4 auto swift & the speedo's not working . any ideas? Thanks

1 answer
BUGBUYER

My only guess would be, that a cable is still used on the speedo. So check if You can see the cable end screwed into the gearbox. Normally the cable is screwed into the back of the speedo on one end and screwed into the gearbox at the other end. Did the needle fluctuate [bounce about] before it stopped working? That is the normal thing in older cars when the cable breaks, it breaks bit by bit. Whether the inside of the cable is still steel I don't know. They used to be made from many small wires in the shape of a square. I don't think the cable broke, [not a common failure these days] but I'm thinking that the inner cable may have moved at the speedo end???? and is no longer driving the needle etc.??? So the only thing I can think of is to undo the cable on the gearbox and see if You can push the inner cable inwards slightly... while turning the inner cable with Your fingers.. anti clockwise...
or - if the cable at the speedo has come loose???? not a common fault.. they used to be screwed onto the back of the speedo... but they are probably made of plastic these days...??? and maybe clip on???? As You probably realise, getting to the back of the speedo isn't that easy...
It is a very rare occurance these days for the speedo to stop working.....
