Timewaster MX5050
Bought mx5050 from dealer, brand new. $6300. Has now 70 hours, have broken 4 drive belts. At 40 hours central spindle bearings failed. Now at 70 hours another spindle bearing has failed. Been back to dealers now 3 times. They keep it from 2 weeks to nearly a month each time they have had it. Total lemon.
Purchased in October 2021 for A$6,300.00.

Dont buy the catcher!!
The catcher is the biggest waste of money. Make sure your in a drought to use the catcher. The slightest bit of moisture (no good for couch lawns) and it clogs leaving the lawn a mess. Told to upgrade to larger model or downgrade.
Otherwise have had no problems just don't put on a catcher.

Toro MX 5050 Timewaster FAB deck- Great if you want to spend more time working on the machine than m
I have owned the Toro MX5050 TIMEWASTER for nearly two years and it is a lemon.
I have had to return it to the shop for warranty claims on: the ignition system, the brake system box ASM, SWITCH-PTO (WARRANTY), KIT-DECK RETENTION (WARRANTY). Apart from warranty claims I also had the battery fail in the first 10 mths (it had to be replaced at my expense even though the warranty claim was for an electrical fault!), after the first service both front tyres go flat after every time I use it. I have gone through four drive belts because the belt g...Read more
uards (or lack thereof) are insufficient and don't stop the build-up of grass or protection from sticks being flung onto the deck, just the bad design faults. I have about 6 acres of grass to mow and in the two years with the MX5050 I have only mowed it THREE times WITHOUT the TIMEWASTER failing and having to be repaired. I have spent more time fixing the machine than mowing with it. The only good thing I can say about the machine is that the engine runs well and does not use much oil, and the seat is comfortable. It has only done about 80 Hrs but been back to three service centres (sharing the love around now because I had such issues with the mob I bought it off) at least 7 times! I think in servicing/blades/belts/deck kits and other parts I have spent over $2k in less than two years.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Horrible nothing but issues
Bought this zero turn brand new in September 2016 after 2 months it randomly wouldn't start I kept trying untill it started. Was running bit rough but come good. Roughly a month later the same thing happened but this time was mid mow then started again and ran horrible. I changed the fuels cleaned filter but never got better. Eventually called the dealer to get it checked he found that the auto choke had broken and that was it had it repaired on warrenty and off I went.
Week later started to rev up and down spatter and run like it was about to...Read more

I've had the MX5050 for a couple of years and it's fine for getting over a few acres quickly but it's an expensive bugger to service. My question is does anyone use the hose port to clean under the cutting deck - I did that after each major mow and when I returned it to the dealer for service they said water had seeped into the bearings and they had to replace the bearings each time. In just over two years it's gone through two full sets of bearings and the dealer is now telling me to keep water away from it. Which is different to what was originally stated. I'm wondering why Toro build in a hose cleaning attachment if you can't use it!

I've tried using the hose connection, but it never seemed to work. I have a lot of any bills, so too much mud. I have had mine for 3 years and no bearing problems. They have replaced the engine under warranty once.
I've had mine for about 2 years with no bearing issues. My dealer's advice (which I always followed) was to let the mower cool down before washing, otherwise the hot bearings suck in water as they cool down and contract. I generally mow early, then park my mower in shade for a couple of hours before washing. Regarding the washing port, every brand of hose coupling is slightly different. I had a "cheapo" Gardenia (Bunnings) hose end which always popped off the wash port. When I replaced our hose end with a quality fitting (which happened to be Toro brand), I've never had a problem. Oh, and make sure you lift your deck to max height before engaging the blades to wash!
Thanks guys for your help. I let the mower cool too before using the hose port and engaging the blades. But interesting that you have the deck at maximum height. The dealer originally told me to have it on the lowest setting. I’ll follow your advice. Thanks again.
