I have a water leak both sides just inside the back hatch door where the back air vents are. I talked to a panel beater and he said that he has seen this before on these vans. Wondering if anyone else has any experience with this and knows where the waters getting in?
My Hiace 3L diesel, 2004 model is overheating since the timing belt was changed. Is that a common problem? It never overheated before the change!
My check engine light comes on/off erratically. This happens a lot and then will go a short time with no flickering issues. The flickering cuts the motor on/off/on/off and I can't seem to find the fault.
I have changed the MAP sensor, water temp sensors, distributor, plugs, leads, had the ECU checked too.

The windscreen washer fluid is not squirting onto the screen on my 1999 Hiace. The squirter pump sounds fine, but the fluid is leaking from the lines somewhere up behind the grill. How do I fix this? Thanks.
I am considering buying a 2003 Hi Roof Toyota Hiace with a factory built raised floor to cover wheel arches but I want to know if easily able to be removed so I could stand up fully.
I've bought a toyota hiace drives great but when warm can't slow down in traffic using the gearbox. engine light comes on goes in to limp mode could this be the coolent temp sensor I'm running out of ideas. Any help? thanks
Hello. Get a mechanic to check it out as it could be your timing belt is out of wack at high RPM due to the tension screw being loose. Sounds like the crank is out of alignment at high RPM. Get it checked out straight away.
How to check timing on 2003 toyota Hiace?
Take it to a mechanic. Its the only way to make the correct timing as a mistake would be costly.
Hi, I'm looking at getting a Hiace from Japan to fit out as a camper. Before it arrives I want to plan my build but cannot find a floor plan of the cargo area anywhere. Anyone know of one? Or can anyone give me some approx dimensions. Looking for total length and width and also the distance the sliding door frame is from the back of the van.

Hello Hugh. If it is a diesel just get it checked out to see if the two turbos are worn or getting diesel tar build up in the turbo inlets/outlets. Toyota usually insists you get new turbos for them i...
Read moref they are tar clogged/damaged which costs many, many thousands. You can get a diesel mechanic to remove the turbos and send them to a specialist (there is one in Brisbane Queensland) who soak them in a special acid/solution for a week and a half and check their bearings and seals. Usually it is just the tar that is the only problem. It costs $800.00 to do both I believe plus the labor to remove and reinstall them instead of $2000.00 dollars each new turbo plus there fitting. Hope I helped you out on one thing at least. Take care.Hy .i am ahmad from saudia arabia .my toyotaa hiace van 2000 model diesel engine cool weather not start but normal weather no problem .pls help me
Sounds like your glow plugs might be causing the problem. They play a very important part with the ignition system on diesel engines. Have them checked out.
Looking to buy a 2002 hiace, it's got 400,000kms
(Has been used by a tradie its whole lifetime)
Is there anything I should look for? Or should know? It also lives near a coastal town, so whereabouts should I be looking for rust?
Thanks.
At 400K basically you have to check for rust, timing belt, valves, pulleys and just about everything. Even the diff and gearbox. It has done a fair few K's so I'd weary of the whole van.
Hey there, i am looking at buying a 2004 lwb hiace with 185,000 on her, just wanting to know if there is anything major to replace at the 200,000 mark and what to look out for, any help would be super apprectiated thanks!

Ask or find out if the timing chain/belt has been replaced. And make sure it doesn't use coolant.
I bought a ex maxi taxi 2003 Toyota hiace commuter 14 seater bus. Petrol 4cl It now has 712,000 on it. I service every 10,000. How long will the motor last, will it just keep going if I look after it If anyone has a wheelchair accessible van that they would love to donate I would love to accept it as I am not in a position to ever buy another car
For a van with 712,000km, normal wear and tear won't stop even if you service it every 5,000km. Although it is good that it gets serviced regularly.
It really depends on how the van was driven befo...
Read morere you bought it. Has any of the parts been replaced? Has there been any work done? Timing belt/chain needs to be replaced every 100,000km (if I remember correctly). With that many kilometres anything can go. Piston rings, valves, gaskets and etc. It really is hard to say if your van will keep going for another 200, 300 or 400 thousand kilometres. But servicing it regularly is a good practice.Thank you for your answer. I just want it to last a few more years as I just can't afford to buy another car and I need a wheelchair accessible van as my 7 year old grandson has Cerebral Palsy and is...

I have just purchased a 2003 2.4EFI Hiace van but cannot find the jack or wheel brace. Can someone please help?
Could you please confirm that how can i get the model number of my van if i have lost all the documents?
Look for the compliance plate. It should be located under the front passenger seat when you lift it up.
I am looking at purchasing a 2004 toyota hiace 2.4 L petrol LWB with 270,000 kms on the clock what are the main things I should look for mechanically?( It is an ex telstra van set up for electrical work) Thanks Tim
I have one of these, and it has been extremely reliable. There is no timing belt in this model, it has a chain so no changing a belt every 60000 kms. I did have trouble with a flat spot when in low re...
Read morevs but it turned out to be the ign. coil in the distributer, replaced the dizzy and fixed the problem. Dont worry about the mileage on the speedo as I think these vand are indestructable. Rust around the windscreen is a problem with all of these but keep it in check.does commuter have central locking?
if your Hiace has a lock/unlock switch (for all the doors) on the driver side door then it has central locking.
My Hiace 2006 LWB van has central locking (non remote type). The Hiace's central lock...
Read moreing works different to what I expected. The Hiace I got will lock all doors only by the switch at the door. Normally I'd expect that the driver door when unlocked with the key, will unlock all doors but it only unlocks that door. Not a big deal though.Would like to know any downfalls on things that normally go in a second hand 2000 Toyota hiace lwb van. It's automatic.
The sliding side door look for rust along the top sill under and above rubber seal, go for low ks, look around and under battery tray for rust, and a general check over oil leaks ect.
Id like to know if the 99 petrol injected model is good on towing heavy load. Such as a fiberglass boat about 18ft?
