Great SUV for long distance trips as well as around town. The towing capacity is very poor as I own a caravan weighing 1160kg. If they don't bump it up soon I will trade for a vehicle that will to that weight it will definitely be a Nissan not a Toyota
Always been a Toyota driver. Purchased July 2013 Brand new! First 6 months oil levels continually dropped. Monitored by dealer every service. As a result Motor re-built! Since then, oil still dropped and monitored by dealer. Yesterday the motor system failed completely and it stopped dead! Luckily not on the motorway, it could have been catastrophic! Outcome? Dealer wants to strip the motor yet again! I want a new car!!! Stay tuned and watch this space.

New motor fitted, 85,000 ks same model as the original motor, same problem of oil consumption, disappears off the end of the dip stick, same amount of oil being used which is regularly checked and mo...
Read morenitored by the dealer. I take the car back every few thousand Ks to have the oil topped up. Vehicle has now done 130,000 ks and has a timing case oil leak ( to be monitored by owner) which I hope is fixed under the new engine warranty. The blue tooth system has also failed. Toyota are doing nothing about the oil consumption, the dealer says " just come in and we will top it up for free" cheaper than replacing the motor, again. Toyota are not addressing the problem at all
I have recently traded my Mazda cx7 for a rav4 I love the car so far it is great on diesel very practical for the kids and I. Love Toyota can't fault them as for Mazda well that thing was a lemon.and for the price difference the base model rav is great I think we had the luxury model cx7 I would never buy leather seats again for where I live.
fuel great, smooth ride for a small 4wd
Not wide enough for car seats and someone to use middle seat

Just purchased a new RAV4 2013 GX 2.2 TURBO DIESEL. AUTO, for the wife, price $33,400, with 12 months rego.
The finish is top notch, the ride is smooth, auto is silky smooth, dash setup is awkward, could have been designed better.
Blue display at night on dash, is super cool, very happy with purchase,,so far.

The only thing I like about the rav4 is its new design, looks like the perfect city SUV or beach, surf or p plater car but apart from that there is nothing special about the new 2013 rav 4 base model GX. The interior is just too basic and bland and with a price tag that doesnt help at all. The new 2.0 CVT petrol 2wd engine they have in the rav4 is disappointing, two words, gutless and noisy. When putting your foot on the ground, it doesn't want to go far, just sounds like its stuck in 1 gear for an automatic, even though its a CVT, i thought ...
Read moreit would be better than this. There's just no power when needed. Mostly this car would be good is for heavy traffic/high city driving. In some way it felt like driving a corolla in a SUV form. I know the mid and top range models do come equipped with loads more of gear but your looking at a heavy pricetag. modern design, your typical city SUV new CVT is weak, bland and boring, price- BadgeGX

"In some way it felt like driving a corolla in a SUV form" ...That's because you probably are. You can't buy a Corolla wagon anymore, so the 2wd RAV4 is the closest thing.
CVTs are lously to drive for sure and their life beyond 5'years is in question. My old 2007 rav4 had the old 4'speeder and it was pretty good. My new Toyota has the 6 speed auto non CVT. good luck with it

I've been waiting for Toyota to upgrade the tow rating for the Rav4 diesel, well they finally have; but, it's now rated at only 1000 kg. So Toyota have put a great big 2.2 litre, 340nm diesel in the RAV4 for nothing, you can tow more than that with petrol model. Now that is what I call pathetic, just how fragile is this new engine?
Nothing now
Dog ugly and a fragile diesel engine.

I noticed chronic oil consumption at 15,000ks topped it up my self then complained at 20,000 ks. The dealer monitored oil consumption every two weeks, on many occasions it was off the dip stick. Had ...
Read morei not checked oil levels myself it was apparent I would not have been informed by the dealer, a common problem with this early model, it has been left up to the owners to discover. Engine rebuilt pistons and rings at 55,000ks then failed totally at 65,000ks, we do a lot of K's The reason for the failure was the timing chain, separated, causing the motor to fail, then considerable internal damage, broken rocker arms, pistons came into contact with valves etc. A new long engine was fitted, now a couple of weeks old, much quieter, fuel economy as it should be. We will certainly maintain a close watch on oil consumption from here on.
