Both my husband and I love this new car (2008 golf sports TSI). Really can't find fault with it. Supremely finished inside and out. Roomy inside and good boot room despite it's small car status. Comfortable and the heated seats are just twee! Has pretty good fuel economy so makes up for the fact that it costs alot for the premium unleaded fuel that it needs (Phew). Sensor wipers and lights are a godsend - no more fumbling for the switch. As it is european the wipers and indicators are reversed on the steering column so that has taken a little getting used to. We just love it!
Stylish, easy to drive, manuevoure and park
uses premiuim unleaded petrol

What a great car. Goes like a scaled cat, handles brilliantly, beautifully finished, well equiped, economical, very strong resale, comfortable and suprisingly roomy for a hatch.
MkV GTI with DSG. What a car. Likes, gearbox, power, fit and finish, comfort, equipment.
Not much. Service cost maybe at an average of $400

This is a great car and I am very happy with it. I do a lot of Highway driving and it is perfect...so cheap to run. It feels very solid and safe and very luxurious inside for a smaller car. Lots of options with the computer and I'm still learning all the neat features and tricks it can do. Great gearbox and pickup, plus I still get to play with "manual" gears if I want.
Golf 2.0L TDI auto...amazing fuel economy..averaging 4.6l/100km. Consistently getting over 1200km from a tank. Great finish inside and out. Quiet inside noise wise and very comfortable. Feels very solid.

I have owned one for about 18 months. It is easily one of the best cars I have owned. It is adequately powered. The interiors are very good and the mileage it gives is excellent. The standard options in this car are almost as good as my BMW 3 series. the after sales service has been very good.
Own a VW Golf- pacific. Excellent car to drive. Excellent mileage
Expensive to service

I am now in my second Golf and would never return to a Japanese car! Solidly built, no rattles on gravel roads, love the stability control which has been activated several times, consistently good economy with diesel and never any problems with mechanics. Loved the customer service of dealer, excellent after sales service.
Great performance and economy, solidly built, excellent body finish, uncomplicated features on dashboard, great manual, no fuss performance and acceleration in city and easy driving long distance.
No USB port / Ipod / GPS socket.

This is the first VW I have owned and intend to keep it for a long time.
A resonably priced quality European car.
I own a VW Golf TSI comfortline manual. The Dealer - Buwrin Volkswagen was very helpful before and after the sale. Pros- The quality, the way it drives, the way it looks, fuel economy, features and reliability. After 12 months no issues.Service $345 after 12 months is not unresonable.

My wife and I love our 2.0TDI Golf and have at times I though about selling my motorbike as it is so enjoyable to drive. The diesel has plenty of torque waiting to embarrass the odd V8 driver. Would have another in the blink of and eye
Comfort, the way it handles, fuel economy. I have done 135000km since 10/06 with a front right wheel bearing replaced at 75000 under warranty but no other problems
The dealer/service agent in my area is very poor. I would buy another Golf 2.0TDI at the drop of a hat but not through my local dealer. Service cost through the dealer were high. I have done 135000km since 10/06

I love my Golf Wagon. I bought it having previously owned a 2007 Jeep Cherokee and am therefore loving my new fuel economy. The boot of the wagon is huge. Plenty of room for the baby stroller AND the shopping during the week and then the dive gear at the weekend. I'm only 5'2" so would have liked if the drivers seat would go higher. The gear changed can be a bit off sometimes and I have found that if you go from reverse to drive in a hurry (like doing a 3 point turn) then sometimes drive doesn't engage. Otherwise a fantastic car but does look a bit mumsy!
Golf Wagon - very spacious boot area. Great fuel economy. Nice ride.
Auto seems a bit random through the gear changes. Drivers seat is height adjustable but needs to go higher.

Golf GTI: Perfect Car
It's the best allround car on the market.
There's nothing this car can't do.
Great peformance, economy, safety, comfort and luxury.
155kW and 0-100 in 6.9sec
7.7l/100km
5 star ANCAP rating
spacious enough for a family of four
I just can't speak highly enough of this car. Everything has been perfect.
The only thing I can fault is that the sunroof uses a dial to open and not buttons... that's it.
Its immense fun to drive and its a joy to own.

Great safe car, especially with the electrics pack (Electric Window, More airbags, windows, ESP, ASR etc)
DSG a manual gearbox that changes automatically (twin clutches).. read the brochure!

Price, Size, Performance, Diesel Engine, DSG Gearbox, Handling, Seats hold you tight in the chair - this car handles very well and is like it is on rails.Fuel economy 5.5l/100klm hwy easy to get. up to 6.4l/100 City/Hwy
Some minor issues with bits falling off. Out of warranty the dealer fixed/replace all free.

You get what you pay for. The Golf is an absolute pleasure to drive interstate and around town. We have out grown the Golf and now considering the X-Trail, 2008 Forester or maybe the VW Tiguan when released soon but my only concern is the VW squeaky dash.
Sit in the driver’s seat and the Golf fits you like a glove. Fully loaded with a roof box on top she goes like a rocket up hills. After 3 years I still love to drive my Comfortline 2.0 FSI Auto (38,000klms so far). We have taken it everywhere: interstate, camping, snow fields you name it (Mon ...Read more

Sensational small/medium hatch for someone after a bit of fun, but with enough style and practicality to keep the missus happy. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
2006 GTI DSG model. On the road:This is honestly the best driving car I have ever owned. After owning a variety of japanese hatches and wagons, this car is just so much fun on the road. For my wife and I the DSG is the perfect transmission, it has no sluggish tendencies like normal autos so is a dream to punt around the 'burbs (the wife likes this) and the manual paddles gi...Read more

I have now had the Golf for two months, and it has been a joy to own. Easy to drive, well laid out dash and miserly fuel consumption. Safety features abound as standard, including dual airbags and ABS, but there are no cutain airbags on this model.
The stereo has great sound, with 6 speakers and CD play, but could benefit from an auxillary input for MP3 style players. Other great accesories include lit vanity mirrors, cup holders in front of the AC vents (keeps your drinks cold!) and a great little sunvisor above the rear view mirror. Mirro...Read more
rs and windows are all power operated and so is the fuel filler. Inserting the key into the front door lock gives you the ability to lower or raise all of the windows at once. The car looks very stylish and is great value for money. The popularity of the Golf, especially in black, may prove problematic when you return to the carpark with your shopping. However, because of the standard keyless entry, your Golf will happily flash its lights and unlock the doors, quickly solving the dillema of which one is yours. If you're in the market for a mid sized car, have a good look over the Golf. Inside it is roomy and is well worth a test drive. Maybe you too will invite one into your driveway. Very, very good car and worth every dollar. great value used if serviced properly.
I would like to own a Diesel Polo but they don't have an auto option.
I must admit that I do prefer to drive my 1980 MB 300TD over the golf because it just feels better to drive and is more comfortable but it is still better than a Commodore or similar.
Excellent fuel economy for the 1.9 TDI. Great auto box. Perfect road feel and handling for a front wheel drive. Very comfortable.
seating is a bit low and rear viewing access is not good.

As this was to be my very first brand new car purchase I made the decision that I would purchase a small diesel car with the intention of keeping it for many years. I have always seen diesels as a reliable and economical option and as such I chose to purchase one for the long term. I had only ever driven older styled diesel 4wd's in the past and was totally in awe at how far diesel engine technology has come. If you still think of diesel as sluggish, noisy and smelly than you are living in the land of the dinosaurs. I will admit that there i...Read more
s still a slight bit of turbo lag (a little sluggish at low revs) at low revs at times, but this can basically be overcome by changing back a gear and keeping the engine revs up a bit to compensate for it. It's more a case of "driver learning" and as with most vehicles it's all about getting a feel for everything on the car. I still get goosebumps from the performance of my VW Golf GT Sport TDI though, especially when going on a leisurely drive, the performance is totally amazing, I can have 4 adults in the car, air conditioning on, some luggage in the boot and can still cruise with ease in 6th gear up winding hilly roads as easily as driving on the flat, as well as managing (on my last tank of fuel) fuel consumption figures of 6.3 L / 100 k's or 45 mpg. Not only this but it rides and handles great as well. I test drove nearly all the competitors cars as well from the Ford Focus TDCI, Hyundai i30 CRDI, Mazda 3 Sport Max diesel and both the VW Golf Pacific TDI and the VW GOLF GT TDI which of course was my personal choice. Whatever you decide be sure and try the diesel models before you purchase because they really deserve consideration. One important last note - Be sure and take both Petrol and Diesel for test drives and find somewhere nice and hilly to do the comparison. I have the MY08 GT Sport TDI 2.0 turbocharged diesel engine 125kw and 350Nm torque and 6 speed manual transmission, the power and efficiency of these engines is incredible and can really only be appreciated by driving one. I have travelled around 6500 k's so far and have no complaints with anything to date.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overall, one of the better cars ever built. Rock solid and will last you a lifetime. Even with some of the bugs (such as a window regulators) its is over ridden by the joy of driving such a nice vehicle. Smooth, classy and not over the top. Its elegance without being extravagant!
Solidly built cars with even greater fuel economy when purchasing the TDI models. Getting around 1000km per tank! They are a smooth a lively ride without the price tag to match. COst very little to maintain
Window regulators can have a tendency to fail in older models, some component parts can be expensive

Very happy with this car. Plenty of leg space, but still small enough to make it easy to park. It even comes with a little VW bottle opener! Resale value should be relatively high too.
I have the TDI model, which runs on diesel. I usually can get 750km out of one tank, very economical! Acceleration is good, very confident when i get onto the freeway to merge into the traffic. Five star rating for the safety, with dual airbags and curtain airbags. Love the rain sensor wipers. They come on automatically and the frequency is adjusted to the heaviness of the rain. Very quiet too.
Only hold one CD. A few times i had problem of getting the CD out of the player. It'll cost A$349 to have iPod wire installed, too expensive.

I think they are a really good car! The diesel packs some punch and I've driven the GTI... That was fun! Not only that but the safety standards and build Quality are high! Sure you pay more than a Japanese car but compare and you can see why! Overall they are very good cars! warranty is pretty good! VW actually do take care of me and the car! They have had no problems with paying out on the problems! Althouh they have been minor! I cant complain at all! LOVE IT!!!
Well built! Drive nice! The diesels or the turbo fsi go well!

Hi guys have the chance to buy 2007 Volkswagen Golf Comfortline V Manual MY08 with 167 full service history etc, are they cars reliable and will be used 95% highway driving for work

Check out when the next cam belt change is due to be changed. It will attract a $1,000+ expense. Make sure it doesn't have a bad accident history. I think they're generally OK and reasonably reliable for a commuter car but I'd be going Corolla/Civic instead as I think generally they're more reliable, have identical performance and economy and will be easier on the wallet.
I'd go for a Japanese car
My Golf has been very reliable and is at 150K KMS. I did have the cam belt changed not sure on cost, services are reasonable outside of VW garages. The smaller engine golfs are great in a straight line and motorway driving does suits them. The Golf will feel far safer as the build quality is far superior to other cars in its class. Also once you have it I would look for a mechanic familiar with VW who is reasonable.

Hello chaps, I'm looking into buying a golf MK5 2005-2008 and wondering which petrol engine is the best of them all(apart from the GTI line, as I don't have the finances to match it up). And please get me a heads up on the problems I'm bout to face and ways I can "maybe" avoid them. Thanks Alot!
Pss:I'm not contemplating btn it and any other type/brand for that matter. I'm all in golf. Just not sure of the best engine to go with.
