Can you fit HR anti sway system to the Touareg?
Thanks
2 answers
Hi Geoff,
I assume the 150 Touareg has not got air suspension. I had weight distribution bars and anti sway on my previous 2009 Touareg which did not have air suspension and it worked well. Volkswagen don’t recommend it for air suspension models. Cheers Ian
Unfortunately it does have air suspension, the anti sway system has provided very efficient on 3 occasions and I would be reluctant to tow a van without one. Thanks for your answer

Is the 150 kw Touareg ok for towing a less than 2 tonne caravan or should I go for the 180 kw Touareg? Does it matter that the 150 kw version doesn't have the raising and lowering capability?
2 answers
It is better to have it and not need it than the reverse.
My Touareg is 165 kw, my van 1400 kg. Towing is effortless.
Get the 180 kw version!
Thanks Peter, this has helped

Just make sure it is what you need or want.
Mine is comfortable, quiet, and quick enough off the line to embarrass most other cars.
It goes my caravan with ease

I have a my13 Touareg 180kw diesel,an error code B12A122 “Left indirect ventilation flap motorUpper limit exceeded. And code B12A222 “Right indirect ventilation door control motor UPPER Limit exceeded. Both codes are static so they can’t be deleted unless action taken... Air con appears to work fine, should I worry about those codes. Dealer wants a fortune just to diagnose it. Any clues or tips, advice etc??? Cheers Chris
2 answers
Pay the $150 for the diagnosis.
May save you a fortune if it is serious.
Try, however disconnecting the battery. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect.. Wait another 5 minutes before starting the engine run it at idle for at least one minute to reset the computer.
I am a layman and think that this will give the computer a re boot.
Good luck.
Thanks mate for your thoughts will give it a try. Chris D

Hi there. I have a 2015 Touareg R-Line with the 4.2L V8 diesel engine. It's running very wide tyres, so wide that I cannot fit snow chains to the current wheels. My question is, has anyone got any knowledge as to the correct smaller size tyre to use for the R-Line Touareg to be able to fit chains given the size of the brakes? I have spoken to VW and they don't appear to have a solution!
1 answer
I just bought a 2015 'V6 that runs 20" wheels, but the spare(space saver) is only an 18" wheel. So I know I can run 18“s. This should be the same case for the V8, but check what size your spare wheel is.

Hi All,
I am hoping to buy Touareg V6 version, but 2-3 year old, since I am buying second hand one what should be Aproximate Km should I expect ? and also is there big difference in V6 vs 150 element?

Km's depends on the past owner.
As a rule of thumb, most Australians drive about 25,000 k's per year (give or take a bit). I bought a 2nd hand Treg at 90,000 and is doing really well. Probably because of the deisel engine.
Both have the same engine. The V6 label is usually reserved for the model with air bag suspension, the 150 being standard steel springs. The V6 has more 'goodies' in the car and so is more enjoyable to drive. For example, all V6's have powered tailgate's, but some 150's didn't.
Both are great to drive, but the V6 luxuries make the drive more enjoyable. Also, a few 4XMotion examples of the V6 are around. They have a 4WD function as well as the SUV 'all WD'.
Cheers
Touregs in Australia are all V6. There’s 150kw and 180. For towing recommend 180. As to km’s will vary greatly ideally no more than 30-40,000. Price will vary according to km’s.

Seriously looking at a 2015 Touareg. Will be using to tow a Caravan in out of the way places and wonder about servicing in country towns? The last thing I would want is to find, would be to a have a mechanical or electrical issue 100's of miles from a major centre to find I am stuck without parts or service.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

First thing I would do is find out all genuine VW dealers and service centers. Then find out all other mechanics that claim VW repair capability.
I would also check out and look out at Amarok bulletin boards. Amarok is a favorite serious off road Ute from VW. If Amaroks can get serviced/repaired then most likely Touregs would as well.
Hope this helps as I don’t believe there is a 100% guarantee anywhere out bush. Even a dealer you
May have to wait for parts. Then again reliability on these cars is very good in my opinion.

Purchased Touareg December 2017. This my second Touareg, first vehicle was a joy to drive. Updated vehicle has issues with veering to the left. Five wheel alignments to no avail. Also changes gears for no reason. Anyone else having these issues?

Sorry to hear. I’ve only had mine barely a month so too early to tell so far so good. The gearbox I understand is the same as on BME X3. A ZF 8 speed excellent gearbox.

Hi, I have only done 14000kms in 2 years but am very happy with the car and would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase one. I haven't had any issues with it since I bought it. You could try looking at a forum to get answers from others that may have done higher kms.

My handbook for the VW specifically says no WDH so I tow mine without but my ball weight is only 140kgs. I do think it would tow better with one and i did see a Touareg last week pulling a big van with a WDH on the hitch. My understanding is that if the car you are considering has the automatic ride leveling adjustable suspension, then a WDH is definitely not advised as it will work against your adjustable suspension. I suggest you talk to a VW dealer and talk to a towbar specialist to see what they suggest.
Thanks ken

we have a 2007 toureg v6 just wondering if anyone else has towed a carvan with this year model?
it says it will tow up to 3500

We have been towing caravans with Touareg and we are now on our second one.
Yes the Touareg does a brilliant job of towing with the air suspension. Advice...take it easy for the first kilometre or so to let the car sort out the towing load, as you don't use a weight distribution hitch with the air suspension. After the first kilometre or so, just relax and enjoy the ride. Remember that a WDH is recommended for a spring type suspension.
VW listed the ball weight at 350kg up until the 2014 when it reduced the ball weight o 280kg, however the 3500kg tow weight remains.

Currently looking at 2015 Touareg v6 180. Main purpose is for general use and towing our van. Which at 3500 it is more than capable of doing. My concern is the space saving tyre. In the unfortunate event of getting a puncture can you tow a van while having this fitted to your vehicle I am of the speed and driving distance restrictions. Has anyone had to tow with space saving tyre fitted?

most european wagons have space savers not a particually bright feature for australia i myself bought my touareg with a spare wheel carrier as oe no longer available i would definetely be buying a rim to throw on the roof or in the caravan, in saying that these wagons effortlessly tow at affordable fuel cxonsumption /comfort
I have towed a caravan with mine 2012, with air suspension, did not require any sway bars, the air suspension did everything spot on, motor pulled with no issues and would go as fast as you would need to go, but my car has been the most unreliable car I have ever owned, dealers lack skilled tech's to work on the vehicle.

I'm looking at buying a used 2004 Touareg 7L TDI v6 it's has 160000 on the clock. I'd like to know if I will be making the wrong choice in investing in the car. Are there any problems to look out for? How much does servicing cost? Just basically any advice anyone can give me with deselect engine, cars, VWs and 4 by 4s

Service is expensive
Centre tail shaft bearing is a common fault and expensive to replace
Diff bearings are a common fault and costs about 5 k to fix
Stay clear I just purchased a 2005 with 120 k on the clock 1 owner and in showroom condition
Worst descision I have ever made I have had nothing but problems since I purchased it
I am now taking it into VW tomorrow as there is coolant in cylinder 5&6
Stay clear if you want to keep your money and be happy

I am looking for a comfortable vehicle that can pull a loaded horsefloat in steep hills but still be comfortable and fuel efficient enough to be my every day car around town. I am probably going to go for a Mitsubishi Triton Dual Cab as I know the back seats are comfortable (unlike a lot of dual cabs) and it has enough power - the only reason I started looking at the Touareg was for the extra comfort and good fuel consumption (diesel). Am I barking up the wrong tree given it is obviously expensive service costs and more expensive to buy in the first place? We live in country NSW and don't do much off-roading, if any.

I own a vw touareg v10;95000kms. Drive from western Qld Blackall to Toowoomba,1000 Kim's,does it on one tank of fuel 100 litres very comfy. Very reliable
Dr Viney Joshi, Blackall
Have had 3 Touaregs and heading for forth. Great car for towing if diesel. The safety aspects of Touareg make Triton comparison irrelevant.
