Nowadays as cheap as the drives inside - works ok with WD software
I recently helped someone purchase this for a friend's small business, and set it up for them. I was initially hesitant to recommend it due to negative online reviews (mostly related to the fact that drive mapping cannot be performed natively in Windows). But the costs for this device have lowered to the point where the 2 x 2TB WD Red drive inside costs almost as much as the whole unit, so the fallback was to reuse the drive in a different NAS if this unit was not workable.
I can confirm that there is no way you can map this drive in Windows w...Read more
ithout using the WD software. I do not know whether this will become a problem down the track, but at this point in time it is workable. The software installs easily, and the drives map reliably. However, one machine was running 32 bit Windows, and the application is not compatible with this. You cannot use this unit in combination with a 32-bit version of Windows. The Web interface works okay, and does what it is meant to do to enable remote access. All in all, for the current price of this unit it is okay. Native mapping of drives would be preferable, but at the current price point you get more than what you pay for.Purchased in June 2021 at Computer Alliance Online store for A$230.00.

Worse purchase I have made
I just wanted just a NAS. The WD site is misleading and got me fooled. The thing does not work - it just hammers the CPU and consumes bandwidth. The software is poorly written and and is a pain to use. In the end I can use it as a door stop or just get the HDDs and throw away the rest.
Purchased in April 2021.

Worst Purchase I've Made in a Long Time
I rarely write negative reviews but the WD My Cloud Duo will end up being an expensive doorstop for me. I have been trying to use this hard drive from my iMac.
Firstly, WD have removed the most basic functionality of a NAS - the ability to map network drives. You are tied to either their online website app, a mobile app or their proprietary system that creates a single public share called 'TimeMachineBackup' and some private shares for each user that are difficult to find and difficult to use. On the public share you can't create folders. T...Read more
he speed of the drive is also incredibly poor. I tried copying some small files I wanted to back up and at times the speed was around 12k/s - this is worse than dialup speed. I also found that when trying to copy a large number of files the 'kdd' process (spawned by the WD program) was sitting at around 300% CPU. I honestly don't have one good thing to say about this product.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
