White Knight Renew Tile & Laminate Gloss Finish Questions & Answers

Painting my cream Kitchen to navy blue with laminate paint. Do you paint the back of the doors/draws, and under the top counter cupboards?
Hi Kareena,
Painting the back of the doors is a personal choice as is painting the underside of overhead cupboards. Inside draws and the slide areas are not normally painted as the materials stored and scuffing can damage the paint.
Just wondering is it ok to do more than 2 coats of laminate paint on a bench top. I was wanting to do 3 and would have 6 hours between the first 2 coats but probably about 12 hours between the second and third coat. Is this too long between coats?
I only painted the cupboards so I can’t say about the worktops sorry. But the cupboard paint looks amazing and has not chipped
Hi Lisa,
If required, a 3rd coat can be applied. 12 hours between coats is fine as long as the previous coat has been sanded with 600# abrasive paper to remove the shine.
Hi there, can I use this white knight tile paint on ground tiles around my indoor fireplace?
My advice would be to call the White Knight hotline and ask them your question. They helped me when I was unsure about steps for repainting over my previously painted tiles.
Hi Martyn,
White Knight Tile Painting products are intended for wall tiles only and when fully cured can withstand temperatures up to 100°C although some yellowing may occur if kept at elevated temperatures for long periods.
Purchased your Renew tile and laminate paint. Unfortunately we have had some paint applied to a spa bath surface that we need to remove. Can you please advise best practice to achieve this.
Hi Dave,
If the paint has been allowed to cure, you may need to consider using a chemical paint stripping gel that won’t damage the spa bath. White Knight doesn’t supply paint strippers so best to discuss your needs with the suppliers of these.
Have been unable to obtain a gloss white in Perth for over two months now. Appears Bunnings no longer have it in stock, where else can I go, have already painted White Knight primer so wasted $60 if no longer supplied.
I would find another paint as the White Knight will no doubt go cream like mine did. The primer shouldn't make any difference. Of all the paints I have found Dulux to be the best. Not sure if they do a tile paint though.
Appreciate your input, might be an idea to change products now. Regards
Hi Ray,
Product demand has exceeded what can be manufactured. We currently have stock in the WA warehouse that suppliers such as Bunnings can order from.
Hi there, have just finished painting my daughters kitchen cupboards and she had decided the green top coat is too bright. Can I over paint the top coat with a lighter colour... and should I assume I am to use the same ReNew top coat paint.. or will another Taubmans oil based paint work? Thanks EJ
Hi, I haven't used the ReNew paint, but I don't think it would be a problem going over it with a lighter colour. You'd have to use the same product though, so you'll have to buy some more and tint it ...

Hi,
Tile and Laminate Top Coats (oil based) are applied over Tile and Laminate Primer which water based. The combination provides excellent results. Oil based primer is not part of a required system....

Read more All the best, White Knight Paints TeamI've just finished painting my bathroom tiles with white knight tile and laminate paint. I let them cure for two weeks. For some reason the clear silicone I used has turned yellow and now the entire job looks atrocious. (There is nothing wrong with the silicone, it has been used elsewhere without discoloration). I need to remove it and use a coloured silicone but don't know how to get it off without damaging the tile paint.
Hi Haydos, I sympathise with your situation. I have the same issue with discolouration of the silicone (as well as the paint itself). At the moment I have had to just leave it, because the apartment...
Read more is tenanted. The only thing I can say is that the paint seems to have cured very well in terms of wearability, ie it has been able to withstand use by a tenant for 12 months, with no chips or scratches. This would indicate to me that the paint seems to be hardwearing, once it cures, so it may be worth having a go at removing the silicone, very very carefully, especially if you have a spot that you can do it where you can easily touch up the paint, if it damages. I would be very interested to know how you go, because if I I get the opportunity between tenants, I would like to repaint my tiles, which would mean removing the silicone. Good luck. Kind regards, KarenI'm in the process of trying things that have been suggested to me, and will start with a separate test tile which fortunately I have. It's really good to hear the paint has lasted. It's my first time...

Hi Kate,
An existing paint that has started to flake offers a poor foundation for painting over. We would suggest its removal. Tile and Laminate Paint is not for bathtubs. ...

After following instructions I primed bathroom tiles waited a few days then painted in a satin finish the tiles went a blotchy tan colour I then purchased a clear gloss but that made it worse now i have a few white tiles and the rest are smudgy brown and look terrible what is the solution as I took this method to save taking the tiles off and of course I would have had to reline the walls now looks like i will have to do that anyway I am most dissapointed with this product please let me know where i have gone wrong
Hi, I am currently in email correspondence with White Knight concerning my own issue. It would appear that there was inadequate ventilation in the bathrooms, which has caused an issue with "Oil based...
Read more paints such as Tile Paint can yellow if there is inadequate ventilation while drying. Can directions advise "* Ensure adequate ventilation during use and while drying". From your question, can I ask whether you used the White Knight tile paint after priming? I just wasn't clear from your question if you used a different satin finish paint. If you have used the WK tile paint, I can only assume that the primer coat hadn't dried sufficiently??? I'm sure that White Knight will respond to your question. I'm sorry I haven't been able to assist any further.Yes I used White knight and yes I even took the door of to help ventelation also the primer was put on in the morning and left till the next day then a coat of satin white knight next day a second coa...

Read moretupid amount of money doing a Cherie Barber course and I also disagree that ventalition is the cause that means in a small area we cannot use this product as toilets are small along with some bathrooms I was going to do same in my bathroom but will think twice beforre doing that as bathroom only has a small windowWhy does your White Knight Tile Paint set as light Pink in colour when it says White on the label?
I can place a photo of the cured paint to show that it dries as light pink in colour which you can see where it meets my white bathtub or White Rustoleum Floor tile Paint if required.
Mine was perfect white when it dried but has turned cream after a couple of months. I have left it as i couldn't bare to redo it again. The staff at White Knight just said thats what happens when ther...

Read moreter and it is now a dreadful cream colour. I also noticed that the silicone sealer seemed to draw in the yellow from the undercoat. The sealer changed colour quite soon after, even though I waited the requisite time for the paint to cure. Very disappointed. I'm now not sure what to do. I will have to repaint, because it looks so awful, but I'm not confident to use White Knight again. If the response from WK is that this happens when there is a shortage of natural light, why do they not place a warning on the product. Both my bathrooms have no natural light. Obviously I wouldn't have used the product if I had known this was going to happen. I can post pictures of the before and after, should anyone be interested. Can I paint this over already painted tiles?
Can't see why not as long as the existing tiles are prepared correctly. Personally i wouldn't use White Knight again in white as i found it went yellowey very quickly. Tinted colours might be ok. I go...
Read moret a brilliant smooth finish but then lost the brightness of white.Hi Amanda,.I personally cant see that being any problem as long as the tiles you previously painted tiles are cleaned before apply new paint.
Hope this helps.
Thankyou
Do you need to remove the old silicone before painting?
Hi Sue, yes i removed the old silicone from tiles and bath and then painted tiles and re silicone.
Prep work is very imporant as to the end result of the finish
Cheers Rick

Can you put another coat on the bath several weeks after the epoxy has dried, we have a couple of streaky patches we would like to take care of.
Yes, I did just that. However, the result was still not perfect. I shouldn't have used white, probably a pale colour would have been better, more similar to the original colour. (pale pink)l
Where can I find the ingredient list?
It's paint, not edible. If they are not on the can, and probably aren't, then I don't know. It's enamel.
Where can I find the paint?
Bunnings, in the paint section.
Make sure you get all three parts ; the cleaner, the primer and the paint.
I use a orbital sander with 120grit and then again with 240grit to ensure a great base coat with the primer.
