I have a Zodiac Tri Mid Chlorinator which has operated for about 10years. I replaced the cell 3.5 years ago when it stopped producing chlorine. It appears the replacement cell has now also packed up. The control unit indicates low salt constantly even though the test indicates a salt level at 5350ppm. Testing the pool water indicates no chlorine even operating on boost level. I have cleaned the cell with hydrochloric acid so do not believe there is any calcium build up. The company that supplied the cell which has a 5 year limited warranty say they think it is a problem with the printed circuit board. I see no indication of this . The display works fine, there are no error messages. Can you please advise me how I determine if it is a problem with the cell or the PCB

Hi Andrew, my best guess it would be the chlorinator cell is finished. My new Zodiac Tri Large Chlorinator Unit lasted about the same amount of time, with what I understand was a 3 year warranty on the cell. My display unit was doing odd readings, low salt light flashing and error message etc. I took the control unit (as requested) into the place of purchase, was charged a fee and told it wasn't the control panel/circuit board, and more than likely was the chlorinator cell, and then asked to bring that in. To cut a long story short, I'd rather cough up blood than deal with that particular Zodiac dealer again, so I took the cell to another local supplier, who tested it and was deemed as no longer working. The replacement cell corrected the display issues and is all working fine again. Check online and ebay etc though, you can get absolutely screwed with 'genuine' or non genuine aftermarket prices from local suppliers. And good luck with any dealings with Zodiac Australia .. their customer service and consumer guarantee knowledge is appalling.

Thanks very much. I agree it is most likely the cell, I believe they are saying it is the PCB because they do not wish to honour the warranty on the cell. I live in NZ so not so easy to deal with it as the supplier is in Australia.

System trips the power board at the box when turned on.."

Good Morning,
In order to ensure that the issue is rectified as quickly as possible, have you eliminated the pump as the cause of the power tripping? To do this, you can plug the pump directly into the power point instead of through the chlorinator. Once you have confirmed whether it is the pump or the chlorinator that is at fault, we can look at either or both items and find out what the cause of the tripping is.

There are many variables involved with chlorinators which means a few different reasons for coming up with output fault. We have many different chlorinators coming in with this issue and it is something that can be easily rectified.

I have a TRi Mid - 6 years old and in recent weeks doesn't seem to be producing much Chlorine. I replaced the cell but no improvement. Now it is suggested that I replace the PCB board. I have inspected the board and can't see any signs of damage. Isn't it more likely that the amperage is not correct? Gets expensive to replace one part after another.

Thanks Luke for repairs. My problem was very efficiently handled and despite the distance problem the chlorinator was back in service in 19 days - and the return trip from Brisbane was 14 days (not surprising given the high demand due to Covid 19)

Hi Shellie,
Measure the length of the plates. The Tri compact is 46mm. Mid is 76mm and large is 105mm. I strongly suggest that you buy a Denoria USA plated cell. Chinese made cells are a bit cheaper but don't last. We have Denoria plated cells in stock at our workshop at our business Aquamech Services in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. We can ship australia wide for $13. Call us on (07) 30677956

I have a Zodiac Tri-Chlorinator on my pool. I recently replaced the cell with a new genuine Zodiac salt cell. Since doing that the Power and Flow lights are constantly flashing. The Low Salt light occasionally lights up for a while, even though there is salt in the pool. I've backwashed the filter, the pump is running fine and even with the pump on maximum and the pool cleaner disconnected, it's still flashing, The device does not appear to be producing any chlorine.

Hi there,
When I set the T1 timer it says "Not Used" despite being set correctly. It used to work fine but now says "Not Used" when I set the timer.
Pump goes on randomly and not according to the timer.
I have done a reset and reconfigured everything from scratch but time still says "Not Used". T2 and T3 are set to Off.
Any thoughts on what the issue may be?
Thanks!

The average lifespan of a cell is 3-5 years. If you have it for more than 3 years, then you may need a new one.

have you cleaned you cell with acid?.
if not do so.

these days more than 2 years from a cell at 70 percent output you are doing well. if you are running high load than that they can die a lot sooner.

High pressure pumps can cause the plates to crack as well.

3 speed pumps help as well not only they save you power the lower pump speed stops fatigue crack in the plates as well.
