Just purchased a 2011 Ovation. I wish to install a 200W solar panel. Is it as simple as wiring the panel to a regulator (20Amp) then to the Electroblock 269 (block 4 - solar)?

Hi Stevo,
Avan fitted our 120W solar panel so either contact them or an auto electrician as we have no knowledge of how to fit them.
Hope this helps,

Hi, there should be a pamphlet in the van with a flow chart explaining what to do. It sounds like it could be a blown fuse. Any Avan distributer I'm sure would be happy to sort this out for you.

Has anyone else had these problem? Had the motor home for 7 months, the tail lights would not work, took it to Fiat agent for repair. Told it was a loose plug on the main wiring which Avan had apart and would not give warranty. To day into Fiat agent air conditioning not working on Ducato repaired under warranty. Also complained about loose air vent. Told by Fiat agent not warranty as someone must have pulled and broke the vent at Avan.

Glad to say that we've had no such problems. In our experience AVan have always completed repairs in a very professional manner. My advice would be to contact the factory at Pakenham, as they are very helpful.

Hi, we are new to motorhome situation. We are thinking of buying a 2008 Avan Ovations with between 90000 and 100000km on clock. It is in very good condition with nearly twelve months warranty. Does anyone out there have this model and can confirm problems or not?

We've had two new Avan Ovation motor homes and have been very happy with Fiat Ducato and the fit out and design from Avan. Our experience with after sales has been very positive but does vary between dealerships.

We have a 2008 M3 Avan travelled 54,000 with no major problems but have done extensive modifications to make it more livable and suitable for our free camping (Preferred) travelling. Will regrettably be selling it in next month or so as we are doing an extended trip through Europe. Soft floors are a problem on some vehicles so we had ours strengthened along with the chassis extension that was too flimsy to fit the Hayman Reece towbar too.

Hi Barbara
Hope your search for the right M / Home is progressing there is a lot to consider, we have a M4 Ovation new in 2012 45,000 klm on the clock now . We are more than happy with the Fiat component Tha A Van home and finish a little disappointing nothing major with internals but have recently experienced major design fault with the extension chassis as it has failed in its support of the A Van supplied and fitted tow bar . I note in a reply to you from Adrian Patterson that he commented that he needed to have his chassis extension strengthened, As I would appreciate contacting him and can't reply to him from my contacts could you send him my contact details 0422239179
kind regards and safe travelling

We have had our Ovation M5 for 6 weeks and we're delighted with it throughout. The only thing I've noticed whilst driving is a smell & taste of fumes coming into the cab on the passenger side window. Just wondering if this could be 'blow back' from the fridge as it's vented just behind the passenger door?

I wouldn't think that would be the case from the fridge vent. I have never had the problem, so suggest you get onto Avan and discuss it with them.

I was told by the service guy at Avan last year that this place will do them..Haven't yet made inquiries myself, but will probably in the near future as I am not happy with the design of the door. http://www.simpsonscaravans.com.au/

Hi,I have just fitted a security door on our 2008 Avan Ovation. Aussie Traveller have a door that is 572mm wide that will fit. Avan door is 565mm so you will need to slightly modify side.Door will only open to 90 degrees and with a small amount of shaving off the grey trim on bottom of van it will go right back. This then allows you to use the retainer on the door.Good Luck. I have only had my Avan motorhome for a few months and have not had a problem.
I seem to me that you might have a loose wiring connection .
I would ask you question on the Fiat Ducato review it or even the Jayco motorhome review as they also use the Fiat Ducato.

I have had mine dropout also. but then I realized it was when I was climbing and it has dropped a gear, but I haven't had to stop to reset it... If you are worried ring

Have just purchased Avan 2010 model. The house battery wont hold charge. It also has a solar panel does this work automatically or is there a switch we need to turn on?

2 answers

I would have the battery checked to see if it will take a load.(most battery sells have a load tester )
The solar panel should have a regulator which cuts out when battery is charged.I would check that the solar panel is putting out a charge around 13 volts.I have a multimeter to check mine. I had a portable solar panel and the regulator was only putting out 12 volts and this is not enough to charge a 12 volt battery. Most 12 volt batteries when charged show around 12.5 volts when fully charged.
Hope this helps

Should be a panel over the door opposite the fridge That's what auxiliary power is. Check to see if your battery is plugged in

We have just purchased an M7 could anyone tell us cN thee40inch TV run on 12-volt and is there a 12 volt outlet anywhere in the motorhome thanks?

I was told the 40" and sound system only runs on 240 volt. The only way I can see to run it of 12volt is with a inverter. You would have to know the watts the tv and sound system uses and how long your batteries would last.I have a second small tv that runs of 12volts.
Has your M7 have the Australian maps in the inbuilt navigator, mine only has European maps.Avan said they will post a new tomtom to me because they cannot upgrade to Australian maps.I will upgrade my posting when I receive the navigator.
There is a 12 volt outlet in the first top cupboard on the right hand side.I think it only for charging your phone or ipad.
I have a honda generator for 240 volts use

Had a similar problem - a little hard to find at first since it was very intermittent - turned out to be one of the sensors on the gear box that senses exact placement of the gear lever - from memory, it was the one that senses horizontal movement. Not serious, just a nuisance so worth mentioning to your service agent.

We are interested in purchasing Avan M7 . As we would be using this as our accommodation while away working, reliability is very important to us. After reading the reviews Im a little concerned about spending 160k and then having mechanical and structural problems with our van. I would be really interested in hearing any comments from people who own an M7? Thanks
Debbie

Hi Debbie we have had our van 12 months and have had no problems with the truck or with the unit itself. We have only had 8 weeks then a further six weeks using it. Our biggest gripe was the proster awning as we felt it not strong enough to support our custom made annexe. The wind did catch it and it did give way but this was considered an accident rather than a warranty issue overall this is a good unit well constructed and ours done in black and white not a timber finish looks clean and fresh and easy to care for we've had very little faults internally minor things with opening freezer door nothing major more irritating mechanically the truck runs well fuel consumption not too bad and easy to drive control and maintain a speed we would have no hesitation with the purchase of another or recommending the a van based on our limited experience

Yes I did and took it straight to Fiat Dandenong where they found water in fuel. They were very helpful and fixed it straight away....even gave me a sample to take it up with the last fuel stop I had...but of course they were denying water in their fuel. So had to wear the cost!

Unfortunately, avan GPS runs out in the first 12 mths then u have no GPS unless u re register, I didn't as I bought a GPS and use that and use the avan GPS mainly as reversing camera. If u really want the avan one to work ring up avan dealers or Victorian HQ they should be able to do something, good luck, ps, my thought is the avan model isn't worth thr re registration as I am now going to update the rev camera as the avan model is absolutely substandard, much better n cheaper options out now, research the triuckies shops, they are great with the motorhomes gadgets.

Has anyone had any problems with the awning leg collapsing and the arm support braking free tearing a hole in the awning and then making the awning unable to be used at all? - will have to replace whole thing - at the moment ours is secured with cable ties so that we can at least keep on the road. Our van is 12 months 4 days old and the awning has been opened maybe 6 times - not impressed

Only problem was us inittially winding it back in the wrong way. We put the struts onto the ground and use camping tie down ropes pegged to the ground these have springs at the ends to absorb wind gusts.
This also moves the arms away from the lockers and if like me you won't keep walking into them
Also lower one end slightly more during rain this will help run off

Geoff21
Geoff21

Hi Ruth, We firstly had a problem with the awning caused by us winding it in the wrong way. We always put our struts onto the ground,

And always use camping tie down ropes pegged to the ground, these also have springs to absorb the wind gusts. They are then also out of the way and you can still

open lockers and you don’t walk into them

Also don’t forget to lower one end slightly during rain to assist in water run off

Cheers Geoff

Good advise, using simple tent ropes n pegs to hold awning is soooooo quick n effective. Never had a. Problem with awning however very rarely do I put the awning legs down to ground I leave the legs on the van, on an angle, better strength when I use the ropes to tie the awning down for any wind or rain problems.

If it is the tap that is leaking you neet to replace it they are not repairable. They are worth around $65.00.

We had a similar problem with water leaking into the stove to the ground. It simply turned out to be the screw in the plug hole was loose. Tighten it and no more leak. Try this before buying a new tap.
