horrible cutomer service
Absolutely disgusted with AirNZ, I have flights booked from Brisbane to Papeete this Friday that were originally landing at 7am... now landing at 12.30am and originally departing at 9am, now departing at 2am. So I now have to book two extra nights accommodation and there were no alternative flights either day each side of my flights. AirNZ have basically said too bad, zero compensation, no free accommodation for those nights, no meal tickets... NOTHING. I don't see how an airline can change flight times so drastically and you just have to deal with it. Yes I could get a refund, but then I lose all my accommodation and no other airlines fly to Tahiti from Australia. Won't be flying with them again.

Flight cancelled
Jan 30th. Just had my flight from Tauranga to Auckland cancelled. The board said "on schedule" as we could see the luggage being removed from the plane and pilots leaving. Missed my Auckland to Manchester Emirates flight. I had allowed a 4 hour connection.
No other plane provided, they could have got one from Auckland or any other local airport. Booked me on the next day and it cost me $940 to change my Emirates booking. No compensation so have put in a very strong complaint and claimed my out of pocket expenses. Staff not helpful, announcemen...Read more

Worst customer service!! Avoid like the plague.
Horrible experience with Air New Zealand. Would not even recommend this company to my enemies. That's how bad this airline is. Delays. Cancelled flights. Told to upgrade seats if we wished to be seated together (pregnant wife). Advised flight was full. Get on board and the flight was empty so we paid extra $$ for no reason. Damaged luggage and no response from any complaints lodged.

My experience was great
Not sure if I was lucky or something but I had a great experience with the airline. Flew from Auckland to Nandi, Fiji and the whole time from booking to ground service to inflight entertainment, refreshment and seating I don't think there's anything I could complain about.

Race to the bottom in customer service
Ground staff at Airport in Adelaide and Auckland dismissive and unhelpful until pushed to do their jobs. Both ends confirmed seating due to medical condition (through travel agent and with Air NZ itself) but at both ends the seating was changed multiple times - to incredibly inappropriate sections of the aircraft requiring further explanations and sorting out. Not to mention additional unnecessary stress. Attitude of check-in staff who are meant too help - 'too bad just be grateful you have a seat' with grudging assistance to rectify the matter when you wouldn't just go away. This is how they treated a highly educated older professional couple.

Terrible customer Service by Operations Supervisor-
Its been worse experience of my life dealing with this Airline after making my booking. A very Arrogant and rude Supervisor name [name removed] handled the issue very abruptly. I was charged the seat selection when I didn't wanted to, The website didn't let me proceed without selecting the seat and charged me $10 for it during booking. When I raised my concern it was brushed by in a very arrogant approach after 1hr on the phone. Will never fly with this airline. They rip you off during and after sale process. No point, pay a little more and fly...Read more
with Any other airline..... And don't bother ringing their contact centre as their Supervisor ([name removed]) has a very arrogant approach and will not help you at any cost. He never gave me the number of his Manager ([name removed]) and wasn't willing to escalate the issue, He said he will leave comments so none can help in future, how does that work in a Airline support Centre. Disgusted by his approach to this issue shows how the airline trains this big headsSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Fight left 14 hours earlier with no notification
I had a ticket to return from Buenos Aires to sydney (vía Auckland) on the 22!nd of November 2018 and when I went to check in 24 hours before, my flight was marked as departed on the app. I called and was told that my flight was moved and for some reason I didn’t receive a notification. I had to stay an extra day in Buenos Aires before returning home.... not sure how that could happen

Nothing amazing
I am a Gold Elite frequent flyer on Air NZ (highest tier) and I must say there is nothing that makes Air NZ amazing anymore for the regular flyer. It's quite a shame that you have to purchase a meal and luggage separately on Trans-Tasman flight (seat+bag or The Works).
I frequently fly Trans-Tasman: the business class seats are very badly designed, angled outwards so everyone walking past can see you. Food is nothing amazing and the seat doesn't even recline to 180 degrees. I much prefer flying LATAM Trans-Tasman: business class tickets are ...Read more
sometimes only $400-500 one way and the seats recline fully! The Air NZ lounges are always quite good unless you're on a morning flight and the lounge is packed. The food at the Sydney lounge is MUCH better than the food at the Qantas business class lounge (which is also almost always packed). The good thing for Trans-Tasman flights is that some flights are extremely empty (especially the morning ones), so if you select an economy seat in a Skycouch row and no-one sits next to you, you basically have 3 economy seats to yourself. However, it does cost extra to select your seat unless you're a frequent flyer which is not ideal. The ticket prices for Air NZ business class is also ridiculously high. You're almost always better off flying with another carrier (e.g. Chinese carrier to China, US carrier to USA, etc.). Air New Zealand used to always be my first choice when flying to or out of New Zealand (5 years ago). I now mainly fly other carriers where I get more bang for my buck.Similar opinion? I was looking at flights in Feb 2022 from Melbourne to Auckland return and Auckland to Wellington return . On Sep 27, they ran a sale until Oct 1 and the return fare to Auckland was $293. I did not book immediately because I had a few other things to confirm. When I looked up the fare again the next day, it was up by $112 to $405. At this stage, nothing suspicious. A few weeks later, when I'm ready to book the Auckland to Wellington return flights, the fare increased by $38 on one flight in a matter of hours. Since there are no other domestic c...Read more
arriers, I proceeded to book the flights. I sensed something was amiss since my travel dates are still four months away. Upon looking up the fares again the next day, the fare had magically returned to $49 from $87. While I have no concrete proof of price baiting or unscrupulous practice on the part of the airline, this is not something that I have encountered when booking with other airlines. I recommended deleting all your cookies before you decide to book with Air New Zealand so that they cannot track your activity on their website and play you for a fool.Similar opinion? Stay away, very very far away....
Don't book with air New Zealand unless you are happy to pay through the nose to pick your seat, you cant even select a standard seat without paying your only choice is to turn up at the airport and hope you can be seated together on the day. I recommend picking a lower cost airline as air new zealand offers little more and at a far greater price, classic bait and switch.

Very poor communication
We had a flight booked with air new zealand from perth to auckland.
Everything was booked and we got an online check in email.
When we arrived at the airport there was no sign of the flight. We called air new zealand and only then we were told that the flight was cancelled.
This is very poor communication from air new zealand.
I would definitely avoid them.

Five star experience
We booked skycouch for my son and Me and regular economy seat for my husband. Long haul Melbourne to NY. The flight from Mel to Auk canceled but they informed us 12 hours earlier and we didn’t have any problem to get the connection from Auk to Houston. Skycouch was very helpful, food is ok, flight crews were excellent.same as return flight. Air New Zealand got connecting flights with united airlines. Here comes the story. The plane to took us to NY left because of 1 hr of checking process and they asked us to catch the last flight of the day which took us in New Jersey airport instead

Overcharging
Booked through Amex travel as a Virgin Australia flight. Found out later it was operated by Air NZ. no recognition of platinum velocity benefits and charged $130 for 1 bag to check-in. Stay clear of this airline. Like other reviewers have stated they price gouge where they can.

Damaged baggage
I departed from Sydney airport with air nz arrived in Auckland then took another flight with air nz to Buenos Aires. Then from Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo with Qatar.
My problem was the return flight. I witnessed very poor hygiene procedures on the return leg between Buenos Aires and Auckland. A flight attendant cleaning a toilet floor with paper towel and then immediately helping to serve drinks, not even bothering to wash his hands.
My son was very sick when we arrived in Sao Paulo and l really think it was possible he may have become ill ...Read more

Air New Zealand, you are baiting customers and charging. It is sneaky and not really ethical.
Booking a domestic sale fare on line ANZ, had interspersed a PM flight between several AM flights, so booked, and then got the booking reference, and it was PM. Called to change and they said $50 per ticket plus extra fare. Customer Service on the phone said every day he gets at least 2 of these a day. Air New Zealand you are indeed ripping off customers, every chance you get. Then tells us if we had called the day after. We were moving. And then tells us we are our travel agents, but the CORPORATE crap knows this is like slight of EYE and you ...Read more
are ripping us off, and it appears if one customer agent has at least two calls a day, heaps of other people. Come on, you can do better than this. $50 each for us to type a change into a computer!!!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Used to be a loyal fan, now feeling disappointed...
I had some great experience flying ANZ PE and Business, in the past. Although I live in Australia, I've been trying to be loyal to ANZ instead of using the local companies. In a recent trip to Europe, I chose Lufthansa to earn Airpoints and achieve Gold status. One of flights was cancelled and I lost my connection, and had my flights with a third company that is not part of Star Alliance. ANZ's customer service used to be friendly but recently they just take a long time to reply and just give short answers that don't actually clarify questions....Read more
They are not approachable, don't try to correct small mistakes or please even loyal customers. I have been making all efforts to use ANZ and its partners but that's just not reciprocal. ANZ customer service seems to be overworked and not interested in anything but the replacements caused by the recent problems with the engines. I feel disappointed, and I actually regret having chosen Air New Zealand, and paid more for the tickets to keep my loyalty when I had good cheaper alternatives. Now I'm stuck with Airpoints when I could have achieved gold status using other airlines and alliances that might value loyalty.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Exceptional flight crew!
Today we arrived back from a holiday in Vietnam, and I would just like to say that the flight attendants were awesome, not just one or two but all of them! They were so nice, helpful and supportive (im a nervous flyer) cant praise you enough! Thanks for being so great at your jobs!

They rip you off any any given chance
I made a mistake making domestic booking with air New Zealand and I rung up to rectify the problem.
The said they can fix it at the price of change was three times more than the ticket price originally paid for each customer.
On top of the fare difference charge they have one off $50 fee which might be to do with talking to me and sorting out the problem!
Since we couldn’t fly those dates and changing dates fee worked out three times the original ticket. We offered if we could pay the $50 service fee and offers the ticket to be gifted to...Read more

Recently flew Gold Coast to Houston premium economy. The first leg was Gold Coast to Auckland works delux. I was 1 D and 1F was an expectant mother with toddler who she promptly sat in the reserved spare seat between us.wondering what is airnz policy on this situation? I would not go works delux again if there was a chance of this happening again.

The free seat is fair game - airlines generally like to accomodate parents with lap toddlers by offering spare seats if they can. Trust me, your experience would've truly been absolutely awful if that baby was forces to stay in poor mum's arms the whole time (hello temper tantrums!) She didn't break any rules. In other words - get over yourself and have a little compassion, it's survival mode in the air. For goodness sakes the poor woman was pregnant and flying a toddler without help! She deserves a medal!

Emily is wrong. It is a guaranteed empty seat so that you have a bit more room. It is not for a toddler. It should never have been used and is not 'fair game'. You don't pay extra to have a toddler seated next to you. It is Emily who feels entitled and needs to get over herself.
