Hi Terry,

Yes, we have replacement blades. If you still need one, you can order it through one of our Authorised Service Dealers. They will have info on pricing. Also, I can confirm we currently have stock of each blade at our Australian warehouse.

For the ASB 10.8 LI, parts are as follows (but you don’t necessarily need these as the service dealer can look these up in their system):
2609003939 – 120 mm shrub shear blade
2609003940 – 200 mm shrub shear blade
2609007130 – grass shear blade

You can order spare parts through one of our retail partners (e.g Bunnings special order counter, Mitre 10) or through a service dealer. To locate an Authorised Service Dealer, please call 1300 307 044 or visit the link below for a list of our Authorised Service Dealers in Australia:

Let me know how you go or if you have any other questions.

Thanks. I think the set costs AUD299 so still hoping Bunnings can order a battery. I tried them after posting my question. They are checking and will come back with price if it is available. I will post any answer.

Hi there. I’ve found it really useful and believe it’d be fine for what plants you’ve described. It really is a little weapon. Don’t over charge the battery or you’ll reduce its life. From memory it’s around $100 from most hardware stores.

Sorry I have no answer n not experienced this problem before. If it's under warranty, take it back or at least they could take a look at it. Good luck.

Perhaps google to see if there is anyone who has an industrial tool sharpener to do it. I'm in Newcastle and I know someone who can do scissors, etc.If all else fails, ask BUNNINGS.

It comes with a charger, connect to the wall power supply. Fully charged capacity would be about 3 hours. There are 3 sizes blades for hedges, light lawn trimming or shearing. I attach a link, if it works, you can see the attachments. https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=bosch%20hedge%20trimmer&redirectFrom=Any

Make sure there is nothing caught in the blade insertion slot and the eccentric pin is rotating freely. If the pin seems to be rotating slowly &/or erratically and there is an abnormal noise then most likely a nylon drive gear has come loose from its shaft. I had this happen in Bosch sander which had had relatively little use but was out of warranty. Dismantling and examination revealed the nylon drive gear had come loose on the motor shaft where it had been bonded to a stippled section of the shaft. Unfortunately when the bonding weakened the metal stippling just chewed out the centre of the nylon gear. I have 4 Bosch power tools and every one has has given trouble due to poor design and quality control so I would not recommend Bosch to anyone. Hopefully you are still under warranty.

Thank you for your reply. I can't see anything untoward internally and fortunately the warranty still stands so will refer to Bunnings next week but the power is disappointing and I will be looking for something made of sterner stuff. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, I would appreciate your input. Thanks again.

JohnA, I was using my Bosch ASB 10.8 LI grass cutter this morning without any problems. I think that I've only had to recharge the battery once or twice in the two years or so since I bought my set. Sorry to read about your problem and those that Platypup has had with Bosch tools. Bunnings, in my experience, are rather good about replacing purchases that have failed, so may you do well there.

Normally no. This is meant to be life-long factory-fitted lubricant but when the oval plastic part comes out of place invariably it gets in the way and is messy removing & replacing this part. Just remove the excess but leave sufficient to still adequately lubricate. Otherwise clean up completely if a lot of grass & gunk is present & use a spray lubricant (such as RP7) into this area on a regular basis.

Ann
Ann

As Platypup1 has replied, no. It's meant to be there for lubrication. Clean it off your hands and other stuff if it gets in the wrong place, but not off the oval piece of plastic itself. As Platypup1 says, keep that lubricated.

Bosch ASB 10.8 LI
Is it possible to separate the moving parts of the blade to clean between them?

2 answers
GeoffW1
GeoffW1

No, it is not, they are rivetted together, with enough clearance still to slide.

Platypup
Platypup

The two blades are held close together by 2 rivets and one blade is allowed to slide on the other via slots in one blade at the rivet position and the base of the rivet is fixed to the other blade. The slots have a rounded hole at one end larger than the head of the rivet so the slot looks like a keyhole. When removed from the motor unit one blade just needs to be slid along until the head of the rivet passes through the hole and lift the blades simply apart. Make sure not to lose the oval plastic spacer the sits in the base of the moving blade between the blades and engages with the eccentric drive pin. It had a little bump on one side that engages in a small notch in the base of the blade.

Your best bet would be to call the Bosch spare parts support number listed here. Beware, it may be more economical to but a new trimmer complete!!

Is it possible to get the blade sharpened? I've had this trimmer for about 12-15 months and use it mainly to trim a hedge. I like it because it is light and easy to use but the longer blade which has been used most, is quite blunt now and doesn't cut neatly.

I would contact the Bosch retail specialist to sharpen it unless you want to muck around with removing the blades and sharpening it yourself. When I try to do such things myself, the results are unpredictable.

GeoffW1
GeoffW1

Yes it is. You can do this yourself with a fine tooth metalwork file or an abrasive disk in a Dremel tool. To do so you should file the surfaces shown shiny silver in the picture here - http://www.ereplacementparts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/clipperblades.gif - Note this is not a Bosch blade, just similar. The nut seen on top is a rivet in the Bosch trimmer. You don't actually have to file the end of the triangular tooth shown, just both sides. It is not necessary to be very precise either.

Thank you both for your answer. I'll have a go at it.
