Is there any way to stop the microwave from beeping when going into standby mode? This beep is COMPLETELY unnecessary and REALLY annoying!!
Hi there,
As far as I am aware, you can turn the beep's volume down but not remove it completely. I understand where you are coming from but I find it useful to know it's going into standby mode signalled by the beep :)
Why do you find it useful, when you are sitting in another room, and completely finished with the microwave, to know it's gone into standby mode? Why do you need to know this? Give me one good reason?
From what I've read you cant turn it all the way off, but you can choose between low, medium or high volume. I do at times wish you could turn the beep off completely especially when using the microwave whilst kids are sleeping.
Is there any way of cutting the noise down?
I'm concerned about the top of the microwave getting hot, read hot. Won't that cause a problem? Also, what do you mean by a painted metal cavity?
Breville contacted me and assured me that previous Breville staff misinformed me. The top of the microwave should not get hot. I was assured that I had bought a dud! I can't tell you from personal experience if this is the case as we replaced our Breville with another brand. I can only relay what I have been told by Breville. You need to be aware that you need 20cm clearance around your microwave. In comparison to our previous and current microwave, the Breville quick touch is really noisy!
In regards to your comment about the painted metal cavity, I never commented about a painted cavity. Perhaps you have read that on someone else's review.
Under normal working conditions the top housing will remain relatively cool to touch and the noise will not be loud. Thus, it does appear you had a defective unit where the cooling fan wasn’t working and the humming from the HV transformer became more apparent.
.
so, fan goes first... then the magnetron goes (overheats i presume). i just fixed one (replaced magnetron) which is now heating again only to notice the fan no good. what a waste of time. thought I might get away with fuse but much more. now i have to find a bloody fan. power supply to fan seems ok. my one just microwave, not the fancy grill etc model which i have owned and repaired before. breville microwaves look good but plagued with problems. my advice is don't buy one. NOTE WELL..... don't try fixing unless you know what you're doing. capacitor can cause a VERY serious electric shock. can kill. a real shame because they do look fancy but fancy does not equal reliability. also, cost for these crap products are high.
Recently bought a Breville Quick Touch and plugged it into a power board with the fridge. It must have over loaded the adapter forcing the adapter to cut out half way through a cooking cycle. Since resetting the power board, the microwave no longer works: ie it seems to function properly but doesn't heat up any food, at all. The back of the microwave also heats up dramatically.
Could this event have damaged the microwave? Any ideas?
Have you contacted the Breville service people?
Have just bought a Quick Touch - seems ideal for our purposes but beeps every 5 mins for no apparent reason. Have we set it up wrong? We have reset it several times but it still does it. Can you suggest why it would do this.
Thanks
Margaret
Hi Margaret,
We are sorry to hear you are having problems with your microwave. It looks as though you are based in NZ? If you wouldn't mind contacting NZ customer service on 0800 273 845 and ask to speak with Joanna, we will be able to help you out.
Thank you
I have ordered this microwave and am looking forward to using another great Breville product (I love my Smart Oven). I read the promo online last summer promising availability in October (2013) and that it will ship with an electronic food scale to ensure cooking accuracy. My oven is coqming from The Hudson Bay Co.(Toronto On.) I cannot, however find out whether I am to expect the scales to be included as promoted in the video.
Can you help me to know?
It appears you are from Canada so can you please contact [email protected] with your query
