Wont print b&W when colour cartridges are empty
Forces you to buy new colours when they are empty, I prefer to print B&W only and when a colour cartridge is empty it wont print B&W after four weeks. To buy a pack of colour cartridges is 75% of the original price of the printer. What a joke!
Terrible scan image quality.
The print quality is fine, however the scan quality from this printer is very inaccurate. Colour is way off, and image is blurry. Technical support have you going back and forth with the most useless suggestions, none of which work.

Great value printer - just don't expect photo reproduction quality
This printer works as advertised and has been problem-free since we bought it.
What I like:
- Always ready - as soon as you print or scan it starts straight away
- Output is fine for home or office use (but not photography)
- Ink really does last much longer than the old type (but perhaps a bit less than advertised)
- Easy to use from the phone, tablet, or PC to print or scan
- Scans the first 15 pages or so quite quickly
- Prints very quickly for an inkjet
- No lines or artefacts on the printed page - even after being left unused for 2 months
- Brother support team were very responsive to my questions

Read more Not so much: - My very cheap 6 year old Epson was capable of brilliant photo reproductions on the right printing stock, this does pretty mediocre photos (but that I knew that in advance) - I think the rate of ink consumption is higher than brother suggest. Still the economy definitely works out better than a standard inkjet
Amazing little home printer - will take generic ink cartridges.
After being extremely disappointed with our previous printer purchased only 20months ago (Canon) -the literally bucketloads of $$ink$$ it drank and with glacial slow printing speeds (if it even decided to print) I was ready to throw it off the balcony out of sheer frustration!

This is Not a Good Printer for Colour Printing or Business Use
I purchased this printer wooed by the INK Investment Theory, I was limited in my choice of Printers due to COVID-19 depleting most stocks in Australia. I thought I was making a sound decision - not so. I've always used HP's and have been Very Happy with them, the one I was replacing was over 11 years old. Why it's bad for Business Use:- it's biggest flaw is that it cannot print a true Colour Representation, the colours look washed out and even if you use the Vivid option when you print it is still unacceptable, the paper tray holds hardly any p
... Read moreaper it is flimsy, my concern with this is as you have to continually replace paper due to it's small capacity it will break very easy. The Paper catching mechanism is unsatisfactory it is also flimsy and will not hold a lot of printed pages before they start to fall all over the desk. It is only suitable for home use if you only print small quantities, print Black and White and only use it from time to time. I certainly would not recommend trying to print photos with it. All and all a very Big Disappointment, It will be going back for a refund. No amount of fiddling with the settings could bring the colour anywhere close to what it should have been, and it's not a cheap printer amongst its competitors.

I bought this printer for the excellent ink economy. I no longer wanted to buy a cheap printer that did a good job, but forever being gouged for ink! This is, what I thought was a high quality printer with lots of bells and whistles. It's quiet, fast and nice to operate. However, it's downfall is colour representation. This printer would be perfect for office use where it's not used for artistic or creative purposes. I've done a lot of digging through the support sites, and tweaking settings and I can't seem to improve it's colour representation at all. It absolutely cannot handle a gradient (ombre) effect. It comes out as very visible stripes of different shades of the colour, not blended at all. My old printer (Canon Pixma) was a cheap thing with expensive ink, but it printed colourful artwork perfectly - even used for wedding invitations! Unfortunately, it seems I have sacrificed print quality for better ink economy - and on an expensive printer no less! I am disappointed that it is not serving my intended purposes. Edit: Since writing this review I've come across another problem that is worse. When I scan a document now, whether it's through the automatic feeder or the flat bed, the resulting scan has a blue tint, and the resolution is low. It's a very obvious tint, and unusable for printing. I tried trouble shooting this myself by searching Google and looking through Brother support forums - but I can't get this problem fixed either. Now I am really regretting this purchase.
Very good
Been through a lot of home printers and this one has been the best so far.
Its expensive for an inkjet but does an ok job of duplex colour printing, although the colours are a bit washed out looking, and the wifi connection is good. The main advantage is the ink tank lasts a while (but not a year as advertised) and is cheaper overall to replace.
