How is this recharged? If a battery recharger is needed, how much does it cost?

You need the product specific 36 volt charger and battery.
I suggest you check bushrangers website for the price
I have an older model, which has a different battery, sorry

what is a difference between red and blue series of Bushranger 36V trimmer?

Red is the older model.
It uses a different shape battery to the Blue model.
I have heard the battery in the blue model is a better battery.
