Hey.
I made an outdoor dance stage using compressed fibro sheets & used builders bog to help smooth the gaps & fill the screw holes so it was a seemless floor to avoid catching on joins while dancing/sliding. My cabots decking paint, (which looks amazing) for some reason after a day has got a wet look & slight tacky/sticky feeling over all places the bog is on.
The bog was done the day before painting & completely sanded the next day and was complete solid & dry.
May i ask what has caused the paint to do this and any suggestion to fix this problem?

It is now day 7 after painting. The deck paint surface is still sticky and slippery. Not good for a deck. The temperature is cooler but no rain so I will give it another 2 days. I too think that we should be warned about complete drying time. Any suggestions as to how to help the slipperyness. This needs to be fixed as it is a real safety issue.

Possibly look into surfactant leaching.. i just found that to be my issue with mine being sticky.. when hosed it off a soapy like foam came up... solution is letting it weather naturally (if its outside deck)

Just annoying that the product does Not perform as purposed. Expensive paint and substandard performance with such a long during time. Would have been better to use normal paint and a handful of sand as in days of old. Thank you for your suggestion.

Allan dong you said it filled in the groves, if the timber had groves it was put on upside down, the groves go on the bottom to stop water getting raped and rotting you deck

Hi John,

The Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint is a fully opaque paint that will hide the timber's natural grain.
But it will not hide or "fill" the grooves in the timber.

What is the drying time

Hi Ross,

Thanks for your question. The Cabot's Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint is touch dry in 30 minutes.
A minimum of 2 hours is required in between coats. If you are using the Timbercolour on decking, it may be subjected to light foot traffic a minimum of 24 hours after the final coat and normal foot traffic a minimum of 72 hours after the final coat.

The full cure time of the Timbercolour is 7 days, and for that reason we suggest replacing any furniture after this time.

These dry times are quoted at 25 degrees and 50% humidity. If the temperatures you are coating in are below or exceed 25 degrees - this will elongate the dry times.

If you would like to discuss this further, or need any advice on an up-coming project, give our Help & Advice team a call on 1800 011 006. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

Gee I wish it gave the above drying times on the tin. I would NOT have bought it. I had to ring customer service to double check after painting. It really sucked having all my deck furniture and BBQ in the kitchen/family room for a week.
Would I purchase again? Probably not.

Hi Tony,

Take a look at our Cabot's Deck Wash https://cabots.com.au/product/cabots-deck-wash this is a non-abrasive cleaner designed to go with our coatings, it will refresh exterior timber decking and help remove dirt and dust.
However we do recommend not applying the Deck Wash to coatings that are less than 2 weeks old - just to ensure the curing process of the coating is complete.

I painted my deck a year ago with Cabot's Timberclour deck and exterior paint. As my deck is undercover and enclosed with vinyl roller blinds, I find that a mop and warm water is all I need to keep it clean. Hope this information is useful.

Hi, I have stained my treated pine decking with a stain, now I like to use Cabolt's deck and exterior paint. Do I need to do an undercoat first?
Thanks

Hi Helena,

Thanks for your question. You most certainly can move on to the Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint if you would like to.
You will have to make sure the timber will accept a new coat by doing a simple water bead test.
Sprinkle droplets of water onto the timber surface - if the water beads on top, let the timber weather for a little longer.
If the water readily soaks into the timber's surface, you will be fine to then clean your timber with the Deck Clean and once dry, coat with the Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint.

How long do you advise I wait before I paint a timber deck after it has been exposed to rain. ( Have had new patio installed over decking, but had been exposed to rain for the past few months, and as recent as today.
Thanks

Hi Mark,

We always recommend timber to be weathered for 4-6 weeks prior to coating. This helps remove any tannins, oil, dirt and other contaminants that could cause adhesion problems.
Before coating the timber – we recommend cleaning the timber with the Cabot’s Deck Clean as this will also help remove anything left behind that could also contribute to adhesion problems.

Before coating the timber – ensure that the timber is completely dry.
Our quoted dry times are based on 25 degrees and 50% humidity – anything cooler or warmer will elongate these dry times, so just keep that in mind when going to do another coat or walking on the deck.
