Razorback CMX 186H Mower & sprung seat purchased 31/01/2018. Current hours reading 260.3:
This RB mower and has been regular serviced by the dealer we purchased it from.
I was caught unawares when my RB mower suddenly free-wheeled twice half way down a long steep slope
I always run the mower on low drive; and use 2 wheel drive, on the relatively easy areas, and 4 wheel drive, on the difficult areas and steep slopes.. I have only used Diff lock once when the machine went into a dip against fence, in an awkward two fenced corner. This model RB mower is very stable, it mows in all directions with easy and the “extra” sprung seat with arms makes you feel safe at any angle. I have no complaints as to its ability and performance on my difficult plot.
My property is semi-rural and is 0.9 of a hector, mostly steep slopes with occasional known rocks and difficult areas. 40% to 45% is the steep sloped area. These longer steep cuts are organised as downhill cuts to take the work load off the mower. It takes me about 5 hours to complete a mowing. It is usually cleaned of grass cuttings etc. after each five hour cut and before it goes the dealer.
The machine has been back to dealer seven times, four for regular service, and three for faults: one of the locating pins for the fuel tank punched though the tank which leaked (RB replaced the tank); a puncture; replacing badly worn blades after one of the fixing bolts sheared.
I am writing this so that other owners know that it can happen, most of us rely on the accelerator /Brake set up to slow or stop the machine. When it happens, as a driver, you have use your clutch or free Auto foot to operate the brake. Owners should get used to using the brake pedal regularly, to ensure when it happens you react quickly.
My question is why does it happen and what causes it to happen?
If we knew why, we would ensure any work necessary is regularly undertaken to ensure the machines braking reliability
There is a spring near the back RHS of the machine that returns the hydrostatic drive pedal to back to the middle position. After you remove the rear lower engine cover, you can see the control arm moving as you move the drive pedal.
Maybe the spring has fallen off!
Hi, I have a CMX1808, it has only 16 hours on the clock, but when I checked the front axle it looked like no fluid. same with blade gear box. I managed that OK BUT I feel the need to check the transmission fluid and I cannot reach the filler cap can you help. (the dealer is hours away and was no help on the phone)
Well, after searching for hours I finally, think, that I found the correct drain plug. and check plug. The manual was all but useless for this. And with great difficulty was able to force my hand through all the obstructiveness and managed to remove the filler cap.....SO I end up answering my own question. Thanks for the NO ANSWERS`
I had my Razorback parked-up over Christmas/new year. Yesterday I started-up and moved to the back lawn area so I could make an early start today. However, this morning it wont start at all! (No solenoid click) I’ve tried everything I can think of. The battery is charged, there’s fuel. Sounds like a micro switch somewhere.
Have you remembered to engage the foot brake?
Hello David,
The first thing to check is that all safety switches are engaged. One on the seat, one on the foot brake and one on the PTO lever. Make sure the PTO lever is fully down, you'll be able to hear the switch click. And sometimes you'll have to push down on the brake pedal past the engagement of the park brake in order to activate the safety switch. This happens if the brake cable has stretched and will need adjustment.
If this doesn't make a difference feel free to call us on 1800 088 567 or contact your Razorback dealer.
Thanks. It was the park brake. I find this difficult to operate because there are two positions and I must have short legs!
Hi team, how can i adjust the heel/toe braking operation. I was caught unawares when it suddenly free-wheeled backwards. I don't use the brake pedal much when cutting around trees rather allow the mower to slow by heel/toe neutral. The mower is in low range.
Hello Chris,
Thanks for your question. Please contact us so we can provide you with a solution. Our number is 1800 088 567. Thank you.
Doing the 50 hour oil change on the front axle, left hand drain plug is easy to get at but the right hand one has the chassis lugs for the rubber protector over the drain plug which looks like its connected to wheel assembly making it impossible to remove the plug. What's the solution to this ?
Thanks for your question Nicko.
You will need to remove the wheel and rubber protector. If you're still having trouble please reach out to your dealer.
Thanks.
Ok thanks, but removing the wheel is no easy task. This is a major design fault for what should be a simple oil change! I live remotely and getting the dealer here would be costly!
I have been driving in L for mowing, yesterday when I went from N to L the gears were mashing.
I have tried L again today and still mashing.
crunching and not working. what is the warranty on these machines?
Hello Chris,
Thanks for asking this question. Please contact your local Razorback dealer ASAP, and don't drive the machine when the gears are mashing.
Thanks,
Razorback Support
Mine has tried to do the same. I will get it sorted first service. Mean time I engage the gear I want with the engine stopped.
Got a flat rear tyre on my Razorback. Looks like the valve is split where it comes thru the rim. No instructions in manual how to remove the wheel. Is it just the bolts holding the wheel on?
sorry for the late reply, it probably won't help you... but for others, there are the 4 lugs on the wheel hub holding the wheel to the drive hub, then there are the 6x bolts holding the wheel left-and-right halves of the rim together. I then had to use a block of timber to break the bead on the longer half of the rim (this was a back tyre) and then I could replace the tube (and erradicate the pesky thorn that was causing my slow leak)
Hi, I've recently purchased a 1402 and I'm trying to find where I can buy replacement rear tyres? Finding $271 online is this the norm due to odd size etc, does anyone have a good online source
Wait is it really for all terrain? (My mum just cooked me lemon poptarts and they are so good)
How do you change the battery in a Cmx227
Love my razorback but the battery seem to have died and I cannot figure how to remove it from under the headlight area. Can anyone help please?
Hello LuciaO, just send an email to [email protected] and let us know which model you have. We will reply with instructions for your machine. Otherwise you can call us on 1800 088 567 and we can talk you through it.
Can anyone tell me what size trailer I need to transport a razorback that has the winch attachment?
Wanting to smallest possible size. Would that be a 8x5 ft trailer?
can I over fill the front axle with oil ? If so what is the full point no indicator?
I need a maintenance/cleaning/repair stand for my CMX2302 - perhaps someone makes something suitable
How do I start the mower
If it's the same issue I had Harry, press the brake really hard then turn key. Took me an hour to get it off my trailer when I got it home.
Thanks Mick, I will give that a try tomorrow.
Sit in the seat, Engage the brake pedal - I press the pedal and click the lock lever, add some throttle and pull out the choke, turn the key. If it doesn't start check the airfilter is clean and obviously fuel. Usually it is the break pedal not depressed sufficiently.
