Dry mouth

published

So far so good. I am using on recommendation from my dentist for gingivitis which I think is a result of chemotherapy drugs. I am just using it for a week. I'm wondering if anyone has a problem with it drying their saliva out. I am waking up with very dry mouth. I also cannot get lid off. I have to get hubby to take it off before he goes to work

Will never use it again.

I have a gum abscess and was told by my dentist to use savacol for a week before I have the tooth extracted plus antibiotics. The swelling from the abscess has cleared up from the antibiotics but I now have stained teeth which brushing won't remove. I now have to go back to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned tomorrow because they look so bad. I can't believe dentists recommend this product. Not happy

Worked well

Savacol is giving me blisters on my gums....

published

Ouch! I've been using this product for two days now on the advice of a dentist but it's really painful. My mouth is sore and my gums have developed little stinging blisters all over them. Plus my tongue is numb. It's like I've burned my whole mouth! Only used it twice a day for two days and this happened almost immediately. Is this normal?

Receding Gums

published

My dentist recommended it for my receding gums which are inflamed and it has slightly reduced the inflammation. Bad thing about it is I have lost my taste and my tongue is always tingling which is annoying as hell. Been using it for about 3 weeks now, nothing's really changed besides my gums still receding. It has not stained my teeth as other people have mentioned, but the taste is so strong it burns my tongue every time I swish it around and it continues burning until I fall asleep. Wish it had faster effects and results!

Highly recommended for bleeding gums!!

published

Helped me tremendously with bleeding gums and gingivitis. Now I have happy, healthy gums. Some staining of teeth which goes after use. Worth it in my opinion. Thank-you Colgate Savacol.

Helped with pain of Mouth Ulcers

published

I bought this to help ease the pain of my mouth ulcers (which i get a lot due to Autoimmune disease) and it worked really well after two days of use.
The downside being it did stain my teeth and for some strange reason i built up a bit of plaque/tartar on my two front bottom teeth!? i think this is a side effect of the product as i floss, brush and rinse twice a day.
I would still use though during bad mouth ulcer break outs.

I've Developed Abs!!

Oh dear oh my Colgate!! Dentist recommended I purchase Savacol for a mouthwash (d'oh). COLGATE, Why you make the cap so hard to take off? I still haven't opened my bottle, I suffer from carpal tunnel and have a weak grip, so I have a better chance doing a pirouette in my undies in the middle of Parramatta Road than successfully following the instruction to "squeeze both ends whilst turning." Packaging re-think maybe? Will let people know how the ACTUAL product works once I can get to open the darned bottle and use it. REMEMBER packaging is also an integral part of a product - so in this case the product sucks even before you get it open!

Like I said a stupid product no one should use this, no one! Plenty of better products out there, that dosnt cause brown staining. I'm going to steer clear of all Colgate products now.

Fantastic product!

staining teeth

published

Love this product. Noticed gums starting to go the way they were before first treatment months ago so went another round. Bottle says works best after brushing and flossing but teeth now brownish ( day 2 ). Hope I can get rid of it but will be using not straight after brushing from now on. Didn't stain last time and it was random times between brushes I used so might go that way again.

Dark Tongue

published

I was recommended (by dentist) to use this for my gingivitis. Upson using this instantly @ the Dentist I noticed it numbed my tongue. I didn't think much of it however I used this last night and discovered that my tongue looks black! (or Dark) After reading the back of the bottle I realized it stained your teeth! I agree with the other reviewer who commented "I find it curious that a Colgate product is beneficial in one way, yet harmful in another" as I have stained teeth and was looking for a mouthwash that would look after my gums and help with discolouring.

Excessive staining on my teeth.

I wouldn't recommend using this product, if you want your teeth to remain white. They virtually became discoloured overnight. Had to pay an expensive visit to the dentist for a thorough clean.

Can't taste

published

I brushed my teeth like usual then used this mouth wash and rinsed for 1 minute, after spitting it out and re-rinsing my mouth with water my tongue started tingling and burning, it was burning all night then when I woke up in the morning my mouth felt numb and furry, the numbing feeling went away and the furriness too but when I had my breakfast I couldn't taste anything, I thought none of it as it was only the morning but the whole day I haven't been able to taste anything, this is the result I have got only after one use, I don't understand why this has happened as I have used this product to the directions given, what's supposed to happen now if I can't taste anything?

Discolouration of teeth after using Savacol

published

As advised by my dentist, I have used Savacol for two weeks, using one capful to rinse and gargle for one minute. It has caused distinct dark marks on my teeth which, after a subsequent visit to my dentist, I have been told that I will require another visit for a polish to, hopefully, restore my teeth. I find it curious that a Colgate product is beneficial in one way, yet harmful in another. And of course I am not at all cross that through my misadventures using Colgate Savacol, I have had to pay for two more visits to the dentist*

*Sarcasm

Nowhere on the Savacol bottle does it mention that it should not be used for longer than ten days, nor that it should not be used immediately after brushing teeth.

As a postscript...I have to say, the staining was totally removed by my dentist, and has not returned, so I am very happy about that!

Fantastic product

published

Hi Colgate, I use the No alcohol one and it doesn't burn for me as i am used to the other ones too, but its a great product which after a week of use dramatically reduces my gingivitis when it flares up, i suffer from gingivitis all the time unfortunately, i have great teeth but its a genetic thing, anyway when i notice it flaring i use this product and it really helps, along with my 6 monthly dental clean it works a treat. Well done on the no alcohol one guys, perhaps everyone that its burning should switch to this one. Any chance of maybe making a soothing green tea flavor maybe?

I was prescribed this product by a dentist when I had my wisdom teeth extracted on Wednesday. This mouthwash has fried my taste buds, I can't taste salty or sweet food! Then today (Friday) I discovered I have severe chemical burns along all of my gums! So sore!!!

Terrible product

published

I used this product once to help with a mouth ulcer. It completely burnt my tongue and I have lost my sense of taste. It has been four days now and I still have no sense of salt or sweet. I am very worried that my sense of taste will not return. I do not reccommend this product at all.

I've used Savocol mouth wash and I can't taste my food for 5 days. Will my taste buds return? I'm very upset, worried, as I'm loosing weight due to not eating, because with no taste just a metallic taste it makes me nauseous. I'm so worried,it's upsetting..I'm praying my taste returns. There should be a big warning on the bottle. Can anybody help..? Thanks..Janet Young..
