Can't Believe the Commonwealth Bank is So Useless
In Belgium purchased 30 litres of fuel at an automated fuel station because that's all there is. Returned to lodgings to find I have been chanrged 150 euros!! Tried to contact bank via app - no such thing is available. Tried to ring reverse charges as stated, oh no if you want that option you must go thru an operator .... What/which operator would that be? Rang Australia at my expense to be told I can't lock this transaction out as I was told I could do. Must download a form from the Travel MoneyCard site and print it out and return to Commonwe...Read more

A rip off!!
We won't be using this card again...an absolute rip off and daylight robbery when we went to transfer our holiday money back into Aus dollars, get your cash out and exchange at the airport BEFORE you get back to Aus!!! CBA push this service but don't make it clear the cost of retrieving your OWN money!!

Terrible product - expect better from CBA
Terrible exchange rate.
Then approx $3 CBA fee to withdraw funds, then ATMs take their hefty slice.
A $200 withdrawal then costs approximately $12 in fees AFTER the terrible exchange rate!!!
NEVER again will use this product!

Travel card expired no notification
I have had exactly same problem as above, Travel Card expired with money on it. and no notification although they notify about other less relevant issues. Can not get any information from my 'closed account' online except to say sorry information not available.

My experience with CBA travel card account.
Had EXACTLY the same thing happen with my account. It disappeared from my netbank app. 2nd Jan 2018 I'll be in the branch, and have had 3 days to get nice and angry. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Typical corporate greed. Bring on the Banking Review
How typical. You have money on a travel card. Even though through Netbank I get 4 emails a week they can not send me one saying your Travel card will expire. The cord then expires and I now have to go to the branch ( how convenient for me ) and fill out a form then hopefully get have the money exchanged to AUD at a poor rate plus a fee then if I want another card then exchange at a poor rate plus a fee back.
I said just issue me with a new card with that money put back on but surprise surprise that is not possible WHY ? because this would defeat the purpose of expired cards. CBA know all about this little ploy and they make money off it. Then they wonder why there is going to be an inquiry into the banks.

CHECK YOUR EXPIRY DATE
HOPE I GOT YOUR ATTENTION WITH THE 5 STARS. I have always used the cba travel money cards over many years of travel and been very satisfied with the ease of use. I would always see the balance on the card on my net banking. To my surprise, I logged in to my bet banking today and no details of my money card on my screen. I range the bank immediately who advised me that it had gone to unclaimed monies because my card expires 3 months ago. Absolultely no contact was made with me to advise of this by mail, email, net banking in box or mobile numbe...Read more
r. Has I not remembered that I had money there, it would have been like it vanished without a trace. They could also not tell me how much money I had there. They told me to go the bank and lodge a form for unclaimed monies. Even at the bank they could not advise me of how much money was there. When I asked can they ring the department, they advised that there in no contact. The guy at the counter was very polite and I am awaiting a call back from the manager. I will update as soon as I get the response back. Here's and idea Mr CBA. Why don't you send a notice asking which one of the 5 accounts I have with you would you like us to deposit the funds to?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Absolute rip off exchange rates!
Converting money to the card costs 5%. Taking money off the card costs ATM fee. Converting money back into $A costs another 5%. Complete and utter rip off! Don't do it just use your credit card.

Do not waste your time with this card!
We got a Travel Card 2 years ago at the suggestion of the CBA; “it’s really useful” we were told. Well don’t rely totally on it as it does not always work – we've had about a 20% success rate in trying to use the card in various ATMs. After several trips to Europe and Singapore we have found that it’s best to just use your credit card; the MasterCard rate is far better and credit cards are far more reliable and they are accepted in most establishments.
The final straw for us was in France recently when I decided to withdraw the balance in m...Read more
y Travel Card so I wouldn’t be hit with an unrealistically poor exchange rate to convert back to AUD after we got back. Well the ATM did not dispense any cash but the money was deducted from my account. After spending a long time on the phone (not to mention the cost) waiting to get through we were finally told that the transaction would be reversed when Sydney started work in a few hours time. Well, it has only now just been refunded, two and a half months later. My advice to anyone thinking of using this card is DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. If you know anyone going overseas let them know that this is an unreliable and very expensive option. The concept might sound good but the reality is that this card doesn’t work well in overseas banks ATMs. There are many far better options.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Disgraceful! Travellers left stranded while they do maintenance
My 20yo daughter called me from Orlando Airport just after 5am this morning in a panic: unable to access the Travel Money account that she has been using for the past three months. She'd just checked in for her return flights to Sydney, and had no other source of funds for meals etc. On contacting the bank at 5.30am, I was told that the system was down for maintenance, but would be restored in 20 mins. 'Please accept our apologies, etc etc.' I then checked online, where a message stated 'we'll be back up and running by 6.30am'. It is now past 7...Read more
am, and the system is still down. My daughter managed to borrow some cash from her boyfriend's mother, but others would not be so lucky. How many thousands of 'valued customers' with this card are currently experiencing embarrassment, inconvenience or worse across the world? Perhaps they could have used some of their huge profits to send a warning text to travellers in advance? I will be moving my savings out of the Commonwealth after this debacle!!!Similar opinion? Total rip off - exchange rates 6-7% worse than the fees charged using a regular key card
Called commbank to see if there was a way I could get less international withdrawal fees when travelling, they recommended the travel card. Travelled to Vietnam and quickly realised that the exchange rate they offer on the travel card is so bad it was charging me 6.83% more than I was previously being charged on my savings card. They've just hidden even bigger fees in the exchange rate. Huge rip off and very misleading.

What a ripoff!
1. a $3.50 transaction fee every time you withdraw your own money
and
2. at a 10% premium on the exchange rate.
Effectively, you're better off just a credit card or even an ATM in the overseas country ( Vietnam in this case ) copping the fees and they have a more favourable exchange rate.
CBA Travel Money Card = Don't Do It.

Used this card in Spain and Portugal
We are long term Commonwealth Bank customers. We used this card at ATM's to withdraw Euros in both France and Spain in 2016 and again in 2017.
There is usually some amount of ATM fee to pay for each withdrawal, depending on the bank that is used for the withdrawal.
Our card worked every time and was also very useful for paying for goods such as groceries, and services such as hotels.
Our card also worked well in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
NetBank customers can manage their money online using the Commbanks NetBank product.

Overseas support zero
Poor customer service. Issue when overseas, 'validated' by one customer service person, transferred and not validated by other. Fortunately issue was not detrimental to further use of card, however could have been and the consideration/concern given was zero. Customer service person officious, lacked empathy, and really didn't care how this was affecting us.

Useless in Europe
As the title says, it would barely work in Europe and Commonwealth Bank's exchange rate was horrible. Cheaper to withdraw cash from an ATM in europe and you get better rates.
For example; I wanted 500 euro in Munich. To transfer 500 euro into my travel money card on the Commbank app, I would get a rate or 0.615 euro to $1aud. Therefore it would cost me $813 aud including withdrawal fee at the ATM. I withdrew straight from the ATM and requested 500 euro (I did NOT press yes to convert) and it cost me $776 aud including withdrawal fee.
Out of my 5 trips to Europe, this was the first time I caved in to getting a travel money card as pushed by the bank, but it'll certainly be the last.

Would NOT recommend
Would NOT recommend for use in South America. In particular it wouldn't work in chile despite the numerous attempts. However it mostly worked in Bolivia and Peru.
We were also not notified that there were upgrades being performed so we're unable to use the card during peak business hours in South America. We only discovered this after numerous attempts and when attempting to book a tour. Despite the fact it was early hours in Australia it was very distressing being stuck without access to our money on numerous occasions while in a foreign country.

Unreliable
We have been using this product for 9 years and 12 trips to the USA and have seen a gradual reduction in service and efficiency. Despite ringing the bank twice to confirm dates and areas of travel and despite informing them on a Thursday that I would be doing a transaction for over $800 US in Arizona in the early hours of the following Sunday (Sydney time), my Travel Money Card was declined. This also happened on the first day of our last trip to the USA. Both occasions were very embarrassing and also required expensive telephone calls back to ...Read more
the bank. This time, I was told that the system was down for maintenance and could I please wait for 5 hours before I tried to use the card. This was on a Saturday of the Labor Day weekend in the USA when no doubt thousands of Aussies would be trying to use their cards to check out of hotels or purchase goods at the annual sales. This a "travel card" for use overseas. We will now need a travel card from a different bank as the Com Bank can no longer be relied upon.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Lost CBA travel cards 1 month ago and still waiting on bank to replace!
I have been travelling with a CBA travel card but it was unfortunately 'eaten' by an ATM and not retrievable. I contacted the bank and gave them my local contact number and address for the replacement card to be sent. However 4 weeks later, 6 lengthy phone calls (where I was on hold forever and switched from operator to operator only to be transferred to a recording that suggested I ring back the next day) and 5 emails later...I have still not received a replacement card!! It is quite astonishing and really represents an institution that is a d...Read more

Very important detail-they forgot to mention!
Warning! When I tried to use my card online in Europe to purchase a flight, they forgot to mention that they would send a code to my mobile phone number, to verify my identity. My australian phone number did not work in Europe, I used local mobile providers to avoid roaming chargers. Therefore the card was useless online!!!!! Emailing me the code would have solved this issue... very frustrating.

Disappointing
Sounded great in the bank but only if I read the detail. Exchange rate is poor and fees are unreasonable. Commonwealth have had the privilege of using my money for years, no more, time to move on.

Hi, the card was used to withdraw $100 USD from an ATM in Walmart in Kentucky USA. Was charge $2.50USD by the Commonwealth, but then charged an additional $18.36 USD. So a $100USD withdrawl cost $20.86USD, About $30 AUS. Is this right? How do we avoid this.

It was probably a private ATM. Always use recognized banks. I would suggest only withdrawing when you need cash and don’t do this often. Use the cash card to pay for as many of your transactions as possible as there is no fee for payments.
