Hi, the card was used to withdraw $100 USD from an ATM in Walmart in Kentucky USA. Was charge $2.50USD by the Commonwealth, but then charged an additional $18.36 USD. So a $100USD withdrawl cost $20.86USD, About $30 AUS. Is this right? How do we avoid this.

It was probably a private ATM. Always use recognized banks. I would suggest only withdrawing when you need cash and don’t do this often. Use the cash card to pay for as many of your transactions as possible as there is no fee for payments.

I am in Micronesia and went to ATM at Bank of FSM with Travel card to withdraw cash and was declined. Have previously used card to purchase supplies at supermarket with no problem, so I know the card is OK. Any thoughts? Does Bank of FSM recognise Commbank Travel Card?

We had the same problem in USA, worked some times for cash withdrawal, worst thing was it wouldnt work at any of the check in kiosks at airports, had to use our personal credit card very annoying. CBA didnt have an answer
Hotels want credit cards for bookings so that they can charge you AFTER the event - eg if you don’t pay the mini bar, steal something etc. they do usually accept for payment.

Hey BEN W, you must simply load the card with AUS$ from there you get a choice of currencies to transfer to from a drop down menu whilst you are using the combank app. However the exchange rate offered by combank is very low on all of the currencies displayed on the drop down menu on the app!
We had a choice of many currencies but as we were going to USA loaded US dollars from their menu exchange rate from Comm bank about 66 cents in the dollar not so good .

Don't even think about using travel money cards. Dreadful. The banks make money by giving you the worst exchange rates you can imagine (at least 8 - 10% less than the real one). You will lose a fortune especially if you let the card convert to a currency not pre-loaded. Best option is to use your normal ATM card instead and take out relatively large amounts at a time. If you use your credit card there is a 3% conversion fee, but several cards like 28 Degrees waive this fee. You could make sure your credit card has a positive balance and use that for cash withdrawals.

Charlie surely you have the app on your phone? So you can recharge from anywhere with internet access. But do read the other reviews about this card!
