What is the best travel moneycsrd?
Don't even think about using travel money cards. Dreadful. The banks make money by giving you the worst exchange rates you can imagine (at least 8 - 10% less than the real one). You will lose a fortun...
Read moree especially if you let the card convert to a currency not pre-loaded. Best option is to use your normal ATM card instead and take out relatively large amounts at a time. If you use your credit card there is a 3% conversion fee, but several cards like 28 Degrees waive this fee. You could make sure your credit card has a positive balance and use that for cash withdrawals.
thank you Dave

Read moreit card you can reduce you're limit and lock your credit immediately after use, monitor a lot easier so it's great for security ease of use if your using the app as well, if you're in Bali it's easy to set up sim card or use free wifi. Because it requires it for online shopping
HI I don't think you can use it for online shopping. Just in ATM's & face to face purchases. That's the idea, if you loose it, its secure. Useless to anyone else who doesn't have your pin #
I'm a Commonwealth bank customer and I'm going to the US in June. I'm concerned what card to use as the travel card has bad reviews. I have a Mastercard and a Debit Mastercard and a normal savings account with another debit Mastercard linked to my savings account. I was going to take a US dollars in various money belts and try to use my normal Mastercard and debit Mastercard that wasn't linked to my savings account. I'm aware these will have fees of Atm and conversion rate but they should work OK in the US shouldn't they as I'm notifying bank I'm going overseas. All I'm concerned about is getting cash from ATM's. Supposedly Mastercard site locater shows you where ATM's are in the area you are staying.
From my experience in Nepal I think you should be ok. You should get no fees on purchases on your Mastercard anyway (double check) and do what I did and search around to see if any ATMs will give cash...
Read more without additional fees. It could also be worth looking into whether certain places will give cash out with a purchase (i.e. like woolworths does here) because that would be considered a purchase and you might be able to avoid fees altogether that way :) And yes. Always tell your bank/s when you're overseas, which countries and for how long. Last thing you need is for them to put a hold on your card because they think something is wrong. Thanks for the advice Sam N as not too many people have been able to help in regards what is best to use. To withdraw in US according to Combank its $5 plus 3% of the transaction on normal card. I kno...
Read morew Westpac you can use at Bank of America etc as they tell you on their site where and what banks you can use, as my bank is very vague and they also say it's got nothing to do with them if the card doesn't work it's the ATM etc. I was going to get my US cash from the PO here as supposedly there is no commision and the rate ok. ANZ also has travel packs with certain denominations to make it easier when tipping. This is all new to me as a first time trip alone, but meeting a long time Pen pal over there and staying with her. I will ask my friend re- taking cash out with purchase. Bank told me today that I just use my normal pin number but I've read online from other travelers you have to add 00 to pin as they have six digit pins in the states. I'm not sure on that. Thanks again.I was wondering as I am in US if a friend can upload to my cba travel money card directly using US dollars using the usual BSB number and my card number without penalty as there will be no conversion required?
Hello;
I am not sure if your friend can do this. If you can access your CBA netbanking, then you can do it yourself through there with no problems from your normal account, it is easy, then all your...
Simply put no you cannot, you will need to convert the US currency into AUS dollars, then load the card. So TBH, if you are going to use the US$$ i suggest using the cash directly.
What ATM's accept the commonwealth travel card in hong kong? Is it just any atm that accepts mastercard?
Mastercard accepted ATM's and terminals only. In my personal experience use the bigger bank's ATMs as a lot of the smaller international banks have a ATM fees.

Read moreard in Europe, as I have done this many times. You just have to take in to account any fees that you will get using this. I prefer using the keycard, as it is widely recognised all over the world and have found occassions when the Travel Money Card was not accepted or recognised as it does not have a name on it.Hi Sam. What Trish said is quite right, however, we opted for the travel card more for security as you can load it up from your existing bank account - safer than using your own keycard. Another optio...
Read moren for you - have you thought about opening an account with a bank in Germany? This may be more convenient for you. All the best and good luck!Hi, I'm planning on a 16 days trip to NYC and Canada in mid-October. Considering our bad Aussie dollar at the moment, I'm very hesitant about which way I should take the money. Usually I take cash with me since I had no problem whatsoever but thought it will be safer to be backed up by other cards this time. I have an account with Commonwealth bank and was seriously considering applying for a Travel money card from commbank. But now that I've read so many of these bad reviews I'm hesitating even more. Anyone used Travel money card in USA and Canada and is happy with it?
I haven't had experience with it in the US, but the general service with this card and the CBA when I got back to Australia was so terrible that I wouldn't ever recommend using it. If I could have giv...
Read moreen it a negative star rating I would have. I've left the CBA as my bank of 30 years as a result. Take cash or even better, switch banksI have already posted info on how to beat the bank, especially the Commonwealth who follows the ethics of Ned Kelly and will rob you at every possible opportunity. So on my recent trips overseas, I've...
Read more just taken Australian cash and have had no trouble anywhere and just suffered the conversion rate of the day. Also my mastercard for use if my cash runs out but try not to use it because once again cross conversion rates. My past experience with the Commonwealth Bank travel card was so expensive and bad that I will NEVER use their travel card offer again. Then again, are any other Australian banks any better? I don't think so. Enjoy your trip because at the end of the day currency conversion is going to cost you something.Hi, so I'm going to Japan. I have put 1500 AU dollars into the travel card and I get 128,000+ (round 1410 AU dollars worth of yen). My question is - when I use this card are there fees? Withdrawal fees and transaction fees? My understanding was no when I had it made... Also I think the exchange loss is bareable... Am I missing something??
Hi. I was charged fees for cash withdrawals from ATMs, most cash withdrawal fees cost me $3,50 AU. But once I was charged $10 this may be the charge associated with the ATM . I didn't get charged t...
Read moreransaction fees when I used the card to pay for things like shopping, restaurants etc. My only problem with the card was having to sign instead of being able to use a pin number I was worried about if the card was lost or stolen someone could empty my account as most shops never checked the signature. always have a backup .Also check your expiry date on your card, my friend had a a card that was 3 years old it expired when she was on holidays and was unable to use it or do anything until she returned to Australia. Enjoy your holiday.Hi
My son is over in Canada bought a travelers card before he left gave all details with his mobil number as well. But he forgot to set it up before he left, i am able to bpay onto his travelers card but he is wanting to know the Commonwealth bank customer number so he can ring in Canada so he can set it up and check his balance?

Our customers have been having problems after using the Common Wealth Travel Mastercard. They said we charged twice when in our record show only one payment. The bank holds the same amount and it takes several days for them to release the pending. We do not request the hold of the same amount. Customer called them and they said that we hold them?. Instead they ask customer to request us to fax to them to release the hold at our cost & time. This problem have been escalating since October 2013 and current April 2014. They, Common Wealth bank did nothing to rectify the problem with their system. Bad customer service for merchant and customers who is travelling and having stress and agitated. Could you help us with this?
Sorry, I can't help you. I am just a person who was travelling and using the Travel money card. It sounds like you are operating a business so it is important that this problem is sorted out. What country are you in?
Has anyone used this card which now has the chip and/or ordered via net bank which means it comes with your name printed on it. I exchanged $ into €9414.61 which is the exact amount I need for all my accommodation, rail and 2 activities I need to pay for on arrival. I lost $893 as compared to the actual exchange rate of the day and $233 compared to exchanging to cash at Travelex. I checked with all points of sale via email who've all assured me they will accept the card (although some specified it must have a chip) when paying via credit. As long as the card doesn't fail to work while away I'll be happy with it. My question pertains more to would I be better of using my debit card for spending money since I'll want to withdraw cash?
You are probably already on your travels now so have made your decision. I would say that if you only need the travel card for a couple of specific purposes don't bother with it. I put a limited am...
