Customer Service
I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a manager, Troy, at the Canberra Costco. His condescending and unhelpful conduct showed no regard for customer service and ensured that I will not be one in the future.

It's good
Don't plan to go and do all your shopping there is all. It is good to buy certain things in bulk such as toilet papers, water bottles, cooking oils, juices and stock at home. Works well and i see considerable savings so far.
Just buying levis 501 is enough for the membership at $50 a pair.
I have been saving $5-$10 on petrol fortnightly also.

Terrible Buffalo Wings!!
My wife and I often travel to the USA to visit family and we love the Buffalo Wings that the USA provide. In the past I have purchased Buffalo Wings from Costco that have been sourced from the USA (Texas Style or Mexican Style) and they have been so tasty that everyone wants to know where we got them from. Then last week I went in to Costco and the only Buffalo Wings that they had in their store were from an Australian firm. They were "Wing It" Buffalo Wings by Baiada Poultry, Pendle Hill NSW. After a fruitless search I asked a staff member whe...Read more
ther COSTCO had the USA brand wings in and she checked the computer at the checkout and said that this was the only brand now supplied. I thought that I'd give them a go, being one to support Aussie companies. What a mistake!! They were fatty and tasteless, to the point that I had 6 and now intend to take the remainder of the 1.5kg bag back to my Canberra store for a refund. I will never buy Aussie Buffalo Wings again and find it absurd that COSTCO don't provide American Buffalo Wings - One of the most famous USA snacks in the States. Wake up Costco!!! You had a great product and have blown it!! We love COSTCO, but will NEVER buy any Buffalo Wings until you return to the USA product!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Not everything is a bargain; use your common-sense !
At Costco, about twice a year I buy paper towels and toilet-paper in bulk; they turn out to be considerably cheaper than elsewhere. Other items too are considerably cheaper than in the supermarkets. Costco sells top-quality Illy ground coffee for $11-49 a tin (Coles stocks the same size tin for over $17-00). Prosciutto from Costco tastes much nicer and is cheaper than prosciutto from Coles. Admittedly, you have to buy the 300 gm pack. For me, this is not a problem, since I enjoy prosciutto regularly. Large packets of frozen foods (raspberries, ...Read more
calamari rings for example) are a bargain. Pigs ears for dogs cost less at Costco than they do at Coles. I have bought fine-knit pure merino wool tee-shirts for less than half of what I would have to pay at Kathmandu. The quality is excellent. My daughter paid less than half-price for a good quality parka in a trendy colour. My husband has bought good quality shirts for less than half of what he would be paying at Myer. Things at Costco that most probably ARE NOT a bargain are: personal care products (shampoo, tooth-paste, etc) and laundry products. You will pay less for them when they are on sale at Coles or Woolworths, or even your local pharmacy. As a general rule, when buying food at Costco, do not buy vast quantities of something that you are not likely to consume fairly quickly. If you are hosting a BBQ with friends, it makes sense to buy the large containers of coleslaw (delicious, by the way) and potato salad (also delicious). Even with products that are less perishable, think before you get carried away. It is silly to buy a huge jar of salted mixed nuts when you might only need a few to go with pre-dinner drinks when having a party a couple of times a year ! I have found that the cost of membership can be re-couped several times over with judicious shopping.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I simply do not see Costco as cheap ?
Last visit to Canberra I was shocked at the so called wholesale prices . I spent $145 on household items bulk toilet tissue, tinned tomato etc, however the meat was relatively expensive and many items Kirkland nuts for example had jumped in price significantly. The clothing in the centre of the store was enough for you loose faith in the brands that were being sold . In all I would suggest you are better off playing the Colesworths sales cycle back at them if you are prepared to buy like you would at Costco I feel you would be better off if y...Read more
ou are disciple in your purchasing as the Colesworths sale cycle is a farce . Convienient ?, No, Cheap ? No . I will be sure so sail right past next time as I just don't think there is any advantage in giving them custom .Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

For the discerning buyer
Thank you Costco. You have changed my life! I've been on a tight budget all of my life trying to make my dollar go a little bit further. When Canberra petrol prices were the highest in Australia I became a member and have managed to buy most of my petrol from Costco, even though it's not a convenient location for me. I have saved a fortune as I do a lot of driving for work and don't claim an allowance for this, even though I could.
Canberra doesn't have high petrol prices any more, but I don't care a fig, I'll keep buying your petrol out o...Read more

Great if you have a large pantry and freezer
I have been a member of Costco (Canberra) for as long as they have been open. At first I started shopping there monthly but now I go weekly. More and more I rely on Costco for my basic needs. I still have to go to other supermarkets for some stuff, but Costco proves time and again to be cheaper. You need to be able to store bulk food to take advantage of many of the products but it is worthwhile financially. Electrical goods don't seem be much cheaper at Costco but basic needs and foodstuffs are excellent quality and much cheaper than othe...Read more
r places. They have food tasters on less busy days and these are good to try out some of the "Kirkland" brand food and items prior to buying large quantities. Give it a go but one warning: it is easy to spend a lot of money in one shopping trolley. Their "food hall' is also cheap and good after a shop although it gets too busy often.Similar opinion? Its different.
Have had a mixed bag experience with costco. Have visted several stores across Aus.
You have to be aware of your prices, ie. Use your phone to check out other stores prices vs costco. Like anywhere, some things are more expensive, some cheaper.
I do like their foodcourt because its a little different.
I do regularly encounter arrogant checkout assistants, especially when it comes to my father and shopping.
I have a buisness account for the business that my father and I own, Sometimes they kick up an absolute stink over him using the c...Read more

Discrimination
My partner has been asked on many occasions and when i questioned the staff member as to why she didn't check the bags of the ladies in front and behind she just ignored me. This was at the Canberra store and there appears to be discrimination. I then stood outside and they only checked the hand bags specific people.

Extremely Rude Staff
I went to the Costco in Canberra in December to do all the grocery shopping for Christmas. I went with my partner (a membership owner) and my mother. Up until the check out area, everything was fine and as normal. I wish I had taken down the name of the woman who was there - because I have never experienced customer service that poor. I have worked retail for seven years and would have fired any of my staff on the spot had they treated customers the way we were treated.
She didn't even greet us when we walked up to the check out; no hello, n...Read more
o asking how we went, nothing. Not only that but she snatched my partner's membership card from him. She told us that the membership had expired, something we weren't aware of - and said that we could either renew the membership or leave RIGHT NOW. We renewed it, mostly because of the amount of shopping we had. When we wanted to split the purchases onto two cards, she apparently couldn't do it and even threatened to kick my mother out! My mother only wanted to use her credit card for some of the things. Instead we got told we were breaking rules (I don't see what the big deal was, we had split purchases multiple times before), that we should never have been allowed in (because the card was expired). There was no bagger, which was fine, except she refused to touch any of our items and made us put even the heavy things in her reach. I can understand people having a bad day, but this was ridiculous. If I wasn't a younger person who needs things like bulk toilet paper to save money, I would never return. I've never had such a poor experience in my life.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great store, horrible staff
I rarely get a cheerful team member. The staff need serious training in customer relations. [name removed] the door man is lovely. Staff in the cafeteria are the absolute pits.

An addendum re Costco spas in Canberra
Further to my previous review, a couple of updates:
- Costco Canberra are now delivering using a removal company, so hopefully this will rectify previous issues with deliveries
- The spa is fantastic, we are using it every day (hate to think what our electricity bill will be!)
- Cost for a new power outlet to plug in your spa, approx. $300
- Beware, instructions only cover half of what they should, so it's not that easy to work out how to get it started and how to use all the features
- Start up spa chemicals not included - just buy them f...Read more

I love Costco
Just like to say how much I love Costco. Love the fact that you can buy the electronics or products with the peace of mind that you will have no problems returning if unhappy or unsatisfactory. Or even change of mind. I enjoy my products lot more now knowing if any problems whenever I can take it back.
Recently I bought my prescription glasses from Costco and was really unhappy as I could not read clearly and was getting headaches after investigating I found out it was due to incorrect prescription from the ophthalmologist and therefore got ...Read more

Is that Chook Cooked?
We were having a combined birthday party - and invited 120 guests - I decided to buy 9 chickens and to ensure that all perishables were as fresh as possible picked up chickens, dips etc at 3pm from Costco Canberra. We live a 45 minute drive away so returned home to quickly make final preparations before guests arrive. As we pulled the chickens apart a great deal of discussion began as whether the chooks were properly cooked. (Not the sort of thing you want to do immediately prior to the arrival of your guests.) General consensus was not all...Read more
the chickens were cooked properly. We decided to be safe rather than sorry and we divided dodgy chooks and cooked them a bit longer in out pizza oven, just to be sure. Everything went well, we had a great time, great party. I complained to Costco - by email twice. To date a zero response - they just don't care about customer service obviously. Unsure about cooking process for those chooks. Can live without that sort or last minute hassle.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Rotten customer service
Not so cheap that it's worth queuing 20minutes tp get out of the store (Canberra) on an averagely busy day while 2 rude and aggressive staff check the contents of every trolley as well as handbags. Customer complaints are aggressively handled - so not a pleasure to shop there. Horrible experience that I had to pay $60 for
Rude staff. Inefficient exit procedures for store. Poor to non existent customer service

Great arrangement in Canberra
In Canberra Costco let us in for a sticky-beak so we could decide if we wanted to become members. There's just 2 adults in our house and we find bargains as well as stuff you just can't get in the major grocery shops in Australia. In the new shopping area Costco and Woolworths are about 500m apart so we can buy our preferred items from our preferred provider - perfect!
There's great variety and it is a good shopping experience if you pick the right time to go there. Staff are very good.
Timing is important - I can't believe how many people swarm around the food testing stalls and get in everyone's way. We go early to avoid them.

I just bought tyres about a month back which are excellent and bargain priced. Free pressure checks and repairs for the life of the tyre. The only problem for some people may be that they don't do wheel alignments. Not a problem for me.
