built to last
Previous mower was a John Deere LA115. Decided to purchase the cox because of the build quality and it has not disappointed. The cutting deck on the john Deere always required attention, the cox is as solid as they come. I can take it into the paddock to mow thistles and then do the lawns with exceptional results. My only complaint would be the design of the oil sump. The bung is not in a location that is easy to drain. It is very manageable but a bit annoying. Highly recommend this mower.
Purchased in January 2021 for $6,100.00.

Worth the money if you have a bit to do
Bought the Cox 4500 42 inch live drive (fabricated deck) mid last year for use up in NQ on 5 acres mixed weeds & grass. Never knew we'd have the biggest wet season in 500 or so years so was a great test. Would have been stuffed without this mower.
Good - eats everything! Mowed end to end the five acres 4 times before needing to replace blades, does a beaut job (dont mow to the roots so as not to chew up blades). 20 horsepower v twin excellent, decent on fuel, fabricated deck does not bend even after accidently hitting immovable rocks and a cou...Read more
ple of stumps. Waist high summer grass no probs. Love to see one of the imports attempt this. Comfy seat, easy to use, good safety features, mows slope around the shed well. Had a flat tyre, who'd have known a bf falcon ute wheel spanner fits the nuts! Easy repair and same with changing blades. Awesome having a standard hour counter underneath the 'bonnet'. Bad - Cox forgot to screw on/adjust several things at the factory. Dealer up here was on to it 100% and rectified everything prior to delivery so 10 out of 10 to them. Bolts holding reverse plate fell out on 1st acre, woops, easy fix. Rubber handgrip on brake fell off somewhere mowing and so did the front badge. Steering may be a bit heavy for a woman (no offence intended).
Purchased in June 2021 for $7,000.00.

VERY DISAPPOINTED
When we bought our farm in 2002, we bought a Cox ride on. It was magic . I used it VERY often over 16 years. My husband didn't like it because there was no suspension on the seat. We then bought the top of the range John Deere, which gave up at the "sight" of grass longer than 2 inches. I still relied on the original Cox. Eventually our mechanic suggested that we should get a new mower (again). So, of course, we went back to a Cox. My husband did the research as to which model we should buy, in conjunction with the local outdoor machiner...Read more
y dealer. Marketing terms like "Live Axle Drive" have no real meaning, and since "hydro" means water, neither of us can determine what "hydrostatic drive" means. We're very disappointed with this new model. All traction is dependent on the back left wheel, which, if even seemingly just 1 millimetre off the ground, stops turning and renders the mower immobile. I now keep the tow chain permanently on the front of the quad bike to get this mower onto ground where that back left wheel has traction again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Find out how Cox Stockman 4500 compares to other Ride-On Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Great mower but the steering is dissapointing. Purchased April 2017
When we looked for a new mower to replace our old Murray Sentinel which never did a good job with stalky grass, we were impressed by the idea of “off set” blades of the Cox Stockman.
We purchased the mower from the Dealer in Murgon after a quick demo out side their Store, not cutting grass.
The mower was purchased for my wife to use and she is very happy with it apart from the STEERING which seems to be getting harder to turn the wheels.
We have complained to the dealer and they even took it away to their workshop for a “sleepover” but it ...Read more

Do not Consider
The Stockman 4500 live drive is rubbish. It cannot handle slopes at all. The cones are fragile and way to small for this machine. 100% dissatisfied. Was sold machine as they claimed live drive was best for sloping ground. Steering is appalling and heavy. The motor and deck are strong features and machine does cut well. Had first cone die after 2 hours. $420. repair. On next mow was 10 degree slope when cone exploded and broke into pieces, lucky I was quick on brake. Will take a financial bath on this machine and my best decision is ditching Cox's lemon.
