Dimplex DC17 / DC18 Questions & Answers
DC18 (5.3kW), DC17 (5kW) (See All)10 questions from our users
Hi. I’ve had this unit for some time with no issues. I’ve recently noticed that when it’s on auto mode and reaches the set temperature, the compressor cuts out as expected. However, it doesn’t really seem to want to come back on once the room starts to warm up. I also tried reducing the set temp from 24 to 21 after the compressor went off at 24 and it didn’t come on for some time. When the compressor eventually came on, it ran for about 30 seconds before cutting out. I am certain it didn’t drop from 24 to 21 in that time. However, when I put it off auto mode and into high, it came on straight away and continued to cool the room. Please let me know if you may be able to help.

Hello Peter D
The exhaust hose must still be put out through the window when in dehumidification function.
Hi
Had the unit a 2 years now and its worked fine each summer, Suddenly today it started beeping and the temp went to 30 and stooped responding to buttons and it felt like the compressor turned off.Had to switch it off and then it wouldn't turn back on .
Drained the tank just in case as its been humid, plugged it back in and it turned on but same thing temp gauge went to 30 and no buttons seemed to work, Turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on again

Does it have a collection bucket for excess water or do you have to use the hose out the window?
It does come with alittle black collecting container,it isnt big but there wasnt much water either when i emptied it but ive only owned it couple months now & only started using it everyday this week ...
Read moreso i dont know how much water it will hold when full. There isnt a hose for putting out the window, there is a little black plug under neath the unit which you can easily empty it with. I havent had any excess water as yet.It does come with a little black container thats a rectagular shape that you use to empty it out with. If the weather is very humid and there is moisture in the air then it will require an emptying ou...
Read moret, but if its just hot then its fine. The aircon has a little red light near the buttons that tell you that it needs to be emptied. The hose that goes outside is what gets the heat out of the house. I actually use a bowl when I'm emptying it out as I have accidently not put the little plug back in and water went everywhere. We have had ours for 4-5 yrs now and love them still. It comes with a collection bucket only, (no external hose connector) which was a huge problem for me because on humid days the water collected within half an hour to an hour and the air con would shu...
Read moret off until you emptied it. So on hot and humid days in summer you could easily be emptying it 10 times a day. Maybe in dry regions that aren't humid you might be ok but personally I'd recommend not taking the risk and go for another brand that actually works and doesn't have so many cons...My Dimplex DC18 after only having it for about 3-4 months is starting to making a funny "tinny" noise when operating. I turned the unit off and waited a while but it starts up with this higher pitch noise each time. The settings were on 17 degrees cooling but are now on 25 degrees to start up on. Any advise? Thanks
this could be the pipe vibrating and hitting on something. try a different mode to see if there is any difference. Otherwise, call the experts of even the store you bought it from as it sounds like it is still under warranty :)
