Reliable Set Top Box with Good Support
I have been using a Dish TV Aerialbox T2200 for the past 2 years and have found it to be pretty reliable and has not frozen or crashed during this time. Dish TV is based in New Zealand and they have released a number of firmware updates, the last being in December 2018. I also notice representatives of Dish TV respond to questions posted on the Whirlpool forums so, unlike some other DVR brands, they seem to take customer service seriously. I should note that I use the T2200 mainly as a back up to a Panasonic DVR so it has only had a moderate wo...Read more
rkload during this time. Unlike the cheaper T2100, the T2200 comes with twin tuners and an internal 1TB HDD allowing you to record two programs at once. It also has an "Apps Portal" that has links to all the FTA catch up services like iView, 7plus, etc. Even though my internet is quite slow (3.5 Mbps), all these services stream smoothly via the T2200. Picture quality is excellent and glitch free. Two quick hits on the info button provides quite extensive program, signal and DVR information. However, the T2200's front display only shows the current channel with no scrolling program info like some other DVRs. This display also has, in my opinion, the T2200's most annoying feature. When switched off, rather than displaying the time, it displays STBY in bright green letters. Fortunately this can be disabled via selecting Low Power Mode (LPM) in standby via the Admin menu but then the RF pass through is disabled. Time recording works well although I have yet to work out whether I can manually edit timer records set via the EPG. Padding of up to 15 minutes can be set via the Admin menu but an extra 15 minutes is not enough IMO so I tend to set manual timer records. The T2200 has two EPG options, the broadcast EPG or the Freeview EPG. While the Freeview EPG offers more user options, mine only displays half the channels as I am in a regional area. I believe the problem lies with Freeview as their online guide also lacks many of the available channels when my region is selected. One thing to keep in mind with the T2200, it is a basic PVR so while there is a mobile app available, you cannot use it to set remote recordings. Also the T2200 is not compatible with IceTV. Recordings are quickly located via the LIB (library) button but being a Freeview Plus box, there is no ad skip button so you need to fast forward through ads. If you are after a basic, inexpensive ($249 at time of writing) yet reliable DVR, I would recommend the Dish TV Aerialbox T2200.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not sure why my review has ended up in the 'turntables' category as I selected 'Set Top Boxes / PVRs / DVRs' when writing it???
