Help don't know what to do
Our builder installed 2x 2016 one at each side of the house. We have started to have constant problems with one in particular which keeps blowing out. I relight and it sometimes lasts a couple of days until this week. When I was lighting it it caught on fire and the flames came gushing out towards my face. At this point I have realised that this has been happening previously as the vents at the top are black with smoke and inside smoke marks also. Until this point we were happy with the system but don't know what to do now as not in the position to replace it.

Repaired
A couple of days ago I submitted a review on this unit. It was playing up and could not get a reply any more from the original installers. To say the least, I wasn't happy. They no longer would return my calls and have disappeared. My initial understanding when the unit was purchased that they were directly associated with DUX. Not true, even the 1300....service number they had printed on their document has nothing to do with DUX. The number they gave me was always automated and hence not getting back to me. On writing my first review, DUX, the...Read more
m selves were quick to respond. And, my unit is now fixed. I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGISE TO DUX for my first review and would like a special thanks to the Represenative, Service man and DUX team for sorting this out quickly and professionally. Many Thanks, Roger1 comment

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
I’ve had the dux for just over 3 years. Since having the system at least once a month the light would go out and I would need to reignite, yes annoying but still got hot water. Start of this year this was happening more frequently until the pilot stopped working. Called dux, out of warranty period got plumber over, spent$400 for new thermostat and burnt all the polystyrene inside. 5 months later same problem. My unit is not even 5 years old and it’s looking like I need to replace. Not fair and not happy!!!!
Purchased in August 2021 at Bright Print Group for $1,100.00.

We have DUX gas water since 1999
We are a family of 4 and the unit served us really well. I loved my Dux.
Bough them from bunnings including installations for less than $1500.00
They deliver and install the unit in 2 working days.
Purchased in January 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $1,435.00.

Sometimes you get done
What a piece of rubbish, same issue as others, the flap at the top stops working rendering the heater useless. This is a design flaw but instead of being helpful in fixing it you are told there is only a one year warranty and good luck. The tank may last 10 yrs but the flap seems to have a life of 2 to 3 yrs. Wow, what a rip-off.

Can you please send through your name, contact number, address where the water heater is installed, model and serial number to [email protected] so we can review your service history. Best regards, The Dux TeamSo are you implying that because I didn't spend a few hundred dollars every few years to have my heater looked at, rather than a design flaw, is the reason I'm spending $2,000 dollars to replace a six... yo water heater? Maybe spend money on a better design and building a better water heater rather than chasing people up on social media. As well your recommended tech wanted $180 just to come here regardless if he could fix it or not. We have now had two other non-DUX techs here and both said it was completely shot due to the design of the flue flap. As well the installation was crumbling in their hands as it had been badly burnt. Still, want me to contact you.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Unit failed after just 2 years.. flue damper faulty. Dangerous flame
After two years we started seeing the pilot light being lost.. It was very puzzling it would relight easily but as soon as the main jet lit the whole thing would blow out.. After a significant investigation it was discovered that the Flue Damper was not opening this resulted in a very poor flame that was bordering on dangerous as with the flue shut the flame would often billow out the front of the burn chamber.
It would seem that Dux Tech Support are shut for at least another week and the plumber couldn't contact them to get advice, in the ...Read more
meantime he's jammed open the flue damper so we have hot water. I would not recommend anyone buying a Dux Prodigy, I am left with the bill for the investigation that I am not happy about. If others are seeing a loss of pilot light I would recommend relighting it, turning up the thermostat and checking that the main jet flame is not flickering about and orange.. if it is you also likely have a flue damper that is not opening. Horrible system would not recommend this to anyone.
Worst hot water unit in the world. If DUX can’t build something as simple as a water heater, maybe they are in the wrong business. My home brand kettle does a better job. Companies like this won’t last long especially in this day and age with social media and product review. Only a matter of time before these guys close shop due to no sales. Pilot light keeps turning off. Inconsistent water temperature. Very noisy system.

Expensive and unreliable
Had problems with this from the first year (2013) it was installed. As lots here have experienced, the pilot light kept going out. As it was within the first year of installation, a technician came by and fixed the issue at no cost. Four years later, the unit has now completely stopped working. As it was going to cost hundreds to fix, I opted for a new unit but from a different manufacturer. Never buying a Dux unit again. Beware.

Extremely unreliable. Contact your point of Sales as well as Dux.
I bought a Dux 135 Litre Prodigy outdoors water heater around the start of 2014. The pilot light kept going out every few days and I called Dux's customer service. They were not very helpful and insisted they would charge us around $140 to inspect the unit as this problem occured after the 12 month warranty period.
I contact my point of sales store which was Bunnings (via email and requested a personal reply, since store personnel just told me to contact Dux) and they were able to facilitate a replacement for the unit. This experience has t...Read more
aught me that Dux may have poor customer service but they do care about their point of sales since Dux relies on them for income. Also, as it's stated on the ACCC website, the point of sales cannot pass a consumer onto the manufacturer for defects and must assist in resolving the issue. Anyways, now 2 years after the replacement (which happened Jan 2015), the unit has suffered a major fault as the insulation is melting around the bottom of the unit and when I relit the unit I can smell a strong gas odour. I am now in the process of contacting Bunnings and Dux again to try and obtain a refund. I'll update my progress on this website in the hopes of providing an effective way to resolve faults of Dux products.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Gas hot water Dux
I have the same problem pilot light goes off all the time, I tried everything clean it many times . Try to ring Dux telling me it's out of warranty but can send someone out and have a look . I ring my plumber because he is a good friend of mine . What we did is make the pilot light bigger . We drilled a bigger whole 1 mm drill and then filled it up with a bit of electrical wire, because the flame was to big, and now it stays on. That what I think is the problem, the Pilot light whole is to small it get blocked up good luck .
Still had probl...Read more

Just replaced a Prodigy 3 with a Prodigy 5
After merely 6 years my DUX Prodigy 3 hot water service fails. The original unit it replaced lasted 19 years. Because of space limitations unfortunately had to install another DUX. Hoping to get more than 6 years this time with the Prodigy 5. Seriously, 6 years for a water heater costing $1000 is pathetic. One can only hope the new one lasts past the warranty expiry date.
