Hi all.
I have been working on a pensioner mate of mine who’s heater is as he said like over 20yrs old.
My question is the slider to allow in re low or high.
The ashes on the floor, if pulled to the front, will this impede the drawing of air as the slider is at the bottom.
My fires are both at the top.
A design by Eureka and other brands.
So how is air allowed in?
Through a chamber through the bottom, through the back etc via the fan area as well?
I’ve always scraped coals etc to the front to burn and get more coal burning availability as it burns to eventual powder.
Any help will be beneficial as he is struggling with his fire and it his elderly wife isn’t well with arthritis.
Cheers.
The slider (air vent) allows air to enter the firebox both at the front, below the door, and at the back, just above the fire bricks. The ones at the back tend to get blocked up.

Thank you Rick.
Yes when I cleaned it for him he said I’ve never cleaned it that well.
Hence I did clear holes at the back up to top.

Can I replace the fire box
What's the efficiency rating?
Our freestanding Solitaire was smoking and would not get sufficient draught, on its second lighting of the season. We have cleaned and checked the flue, which was not blocked, but there was an accumulation of creosote rubble resting on the baffle and blocking access to the flue. Is the only way to clean that out to remove the baffle? Do you need to do this whenever you clean the flue?
I had the same problem just the other day. I cleaned out the flue which required lowering the top plate (baffle) to the floor of the fire box so that I could teed in the chimney brush into the flue. A...
Read morefter cleaning the flue, I then propped up one side of the plate in the fire box and wiped off a large amount of soot and creosote. Fire now works fine, In answer to your specific question, I think that you do have to at least lower the top plate or remove it altogether to clear the build up of soot and ensure a good draft into the flue.
Thanks Rick. because our bricks are all cracked, we didn't want to remove them as they are likely to disintegrate, but we may have to.
Hinges on the door wearing out. Can they be replaced

Hi. I bought a house with an Eureka Solitaire Fireplace. It needs some attention. I have been searching for a new baffle plate and a set of new firebricks and the iron angle that holds them in. Downsheating website is sold out and heatworks has still not replied to my request. Any one know where to get these items from, thank you.
Hi. I have a Diamond Eureka fireplace but it’s so well insulated that the only heat that comes off it is from the fan. Is there anything I can do to get more heat out of it? Are there parts I can remove?
Hi CPQ, I also have a Eureka Diamond. There are no parts that you can take off it to increase the radiant heat. I run the fan on medium setting pretty much full time to circulate the warm air through ...

Read morehaving the Eureka. Im hoping I can get something smaller in the range that's just as good. I'm sad having to get rid of it.I have an old Eureka fan forced wood heater. Before my time it was reinstalled into this 'new' house in early 1990s as a second hand heater. It appears to have a fixed baffle, i.e. the whole fire box is one unit welded together. Is this possible?
I found out from Eureka that yes, one that old could have a fixed baffle. It makes cleaning is a bit tricky.
Our sacrificial baffle has taken to falling down into the ashes. With a major effort it has been removed, and is obviously bent. We have ordered a new one, but have been told it will take 3 weeks for delivery. Can the baffle be flattened and repositioned in the meantime? And, can the unit be used without it?
Do NOT use unit without baffle. I have replaced mine once and within a year the new one was bulkleling again. My original baffle was 20 years old and I straighten it several times with great difficult...
Read morey, jammed between boulders and using a sledge hammer. The baffle usually falls down when logs hit the baffle when loading firewood. I would put the old one back in for now. I have noticed that the design of newer sacrificial baffles are better and may not buckle as much. Why cant You use without the baffle? It just gets clogged up and stops the fire from drawing
Hi I’ve just bought a Eureka Pearl and the glass door went black. After 3 goes it’s still black. The wood we are issuing is old and dry. Any suggestions?
When I have a low overnight burn (which is always) it generally always creates tar and creosote on the glass even with well seasoned wood, far more so with unseasoned wood. First thing in morning add...
Read more wood and put damper on full for a couple of hours and some of the black will burn off. If you always have damper from half to full there should be very little black. Clean Glass with Cloudy Ammonia with newspaper. Very low damper equals more black tar and creosote on the glass and in the chimney. If you had the damper on full all the time (obviously one does not do that) there would be no black on glass. My Pearl does the same. My walls and ceiling are now ruined after 3 seasons. The smoke draws to the front of the fire and despite dry/seasoned wood.......trying get it going and putting more wood on...
Read more, fills the house with smoke. Expensive lesson learned, will be ripping it out and will have to replace surrounds, plaster etc......not happy with it at all!!!!!How does the airflow enter the fire box? Does it need cleaning?
I want to know the answer to this as well. Does excess ash have to be removed from the base of the firebox to ensure enough air enters?
We have a square base heater.Cleaning took out bricks and iron angle now how does it go back .bricks are on base and around walls
Hi we have a Eureka duet. We are going to paint the walls and would like to know can or how to remove the surround for ease of painting. Christine
I have recently moved into a property with a Eureka Sovereign wood heater and want to clean it out. Are there bricks on the bottom or is it just the steel outside shell plate. I don’t want to take brick out if not necessary but it breaks up easy and crumbles in your hand

hi there I have a eureka fire place its been 12 months i've cleaned the flu but its not drawing
There is no real answer. The flew should draw no matter what. However strong winds can stop the draw and actually force air down the flue on rare occasions and create smoke in the room. Also to much ...

Sorry but I cannot find any info on a Sovereign heater on Eureka site and Eureka Gason site.

Hi we have recently moved into a house with a Diamond wood heater, it llooks to be an older model. It is very hard to shut it down, to stop it burning so quickly. We have had wood heaters in the past and not had this issue. The seals seem to be ok. Any suggestions.
Obviously too much air is the problem. The most common thing to do this is a loose shutting door. If this is the case, the handle needs to be adjusted so as to have a tight fit.
