Like a needy child
It's everything you don't want, it's: temperamental, unexpectedly annoying, and an incessant time sink!!
5kg is a smallish bundle of clothes. This machine takes about 1/4 of that (it's lucky to take 2 pairs of jeans) - any more than this and it's going to constantly stop.
This wouldn't even be such a problem. But it keeps beeping for hours.
If you put a wash on before bed, or before going out, do not expect it to work. You'll get back to the machine and it will be stuck in the rinse cycle.
Don't buy it. The extra you spend on a decent machine will buy you reliability and time back.

Not impressed
Purchased in April 2012 from The Good Guys. Warranty for two years. Machine has stopped, no power. Repairman I used to use before we moved as he was cheap and reliable has suggested it is the electronic board. Have phoned Fisher and Paykel but they want to charge me $150 callout plus parts/labour. We bought this machine as our previous F&P lasted around 12 years with only a couple of pump issues, fixed by previously mentioned gentleman. Unfortunately, we now live too far away for him. Phoned The Good Guys and am awaiting call back. Trying to enact the Statutory Warranty with them. Machine is not overused, only two of us in house, still looks new inside and out. Not very happy with F&P either. Didn't want to know about consumer laws.

as an addendum to this, I spoke to a manager at the Good Guys, he is going to speak to F&P to see if he can help. He did make quite an issue of the price of the washing machine, $460 to be precise, an... Read more
d basically implied that you get what you pay for. Obviously the reputation of the company doesn't matter, and I paid for a machine that suited my needs, was energy efficient and suited my laundry.Problem was sorted by posting on the F&P facebook page. Circuit board was replaced - no charge. Thank you F&P

Great Washing Machine but Short Life
Actual model number is WA55t56GW1 (but loos exactly the same as MW513 in the shops today) Bought new in January 2010, thats 4 years and 11 months ago. It has been a great washing machine, fast wash cycle time, and clothes come out dry due to the fast 1000rpm spin speed, quiet running means I can do a wash at night time even though the laundry room is located next to the bedroom. Love the control panel looks, high tech modern design, the display panel has the flush soft touch buttons and green led indicators. Has been looked after well and stil...Read more
l looks like new condition, no rust or paint chips. We wash about 5 loads a week on the fast cycle, so it has only gone through a total of about 1200 cycles, was expecting that it would last 8-10 years. Now faulty, at the end of the wash cycle, pump drains but it does not spin dry and there is the smell of burnt electronics, estimated repair cost to replace the motor control module $240. Original cost was NZ$649 from Magness Benrow, but the same model is currently available on boxing day special for NZ$542 at some stores. The Smartdrive motor itself appears robust, Fisher and Paykel have had 25-30 years experience building this type of washer electronics, but its very disappointing that the electronic controls on this example did not last the distance. Have looked at other brands for a replacement, but none have the appeal of sophisticated technology and clean design, so In spite of this experience, am likely to buy another Fisher and PaykelSimilar opinion? GOOD
We have had this washer for about 5 or 6 years now, used weekly and it is still going strong. Never missed a beat. Put the clothes in, soap, press the appropriate settings and it washes as it should. Only issue, if I had to complain about something, is the final spin goes on for too long. But better than too short !

Great small washing machine.
Previously I had a 7kg top load washer. I moved and unfortunately it would not fit in my new unit. Was loathed to buy a front load as I like to do a 5 min wash or rinse only on some things. After much fretting I bought the 5.5kg F&P MW513, which I've had for 3 months
Very happy I did.
Fits my queen sheets and 3 pillow cases much better than I thought. I put on heavy duty wash with good quality liquid and they are perfect. (Tends to unbalance if do one sheet at a time).

So good I have three of them!
I've had one in my place for about 8 years and it works fine. Only purchased it as it was a great price on sale. I have since bought two others for properties I manage. None have given me a problem and they're all now over 3 years old.
No issues with lint and I have a lot of dark business shirts. It does occasionally get unbalanced, however no more than other machines I've used and only when washing bedding.
The only thing reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 is the agitator in the middle catches clothes when taking them out. A family member has an LG machine with no centre agitator which I really liked. In the future that is what I will most likely get.

10 plus years
I've had this washing machine for 10 plus years and its still going as the day I brought it, I do now need a larger washer as I now have a family but will keep it until it no longer goes. I agree If the load isn't even the spin cycle will stop but its not a big deal to even out the load @ press restart.
Reliable

Leaves lint on your clothes
I brought this washing machine because it was small enough to fit in my apartment. I had been using a Bosch Front loader prior to buying this washing machine, and this washing machine is terrible compared to the Bosch front loader. Leaves lint all over my dark clothes. I know to separate colours and know to wash fluffy clothes separately as well, but this doesn't make a difference. I changed to liquid detergent, still made no difference. After 3 months I have had enough and will cut my losses and buy a front loader thats more pricey but will wa...Read more
sh my clothes without leaving lint. I spin my clothes on slow because the faster the spin the more lint. Spend a bit more and buy quality. Good for towels..thats about it Leaves lint on your clothes. Fast and medium spin leaves clothes crinkled.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Reliable machine, gives me clean clothes
I've had this machine for a year and it's great! Laundry is in garage so I can't comment on noise, but when it starts it runs quietly. It takes a good size load of 2 king size bed sheets with 4 pillowcases or 6-7 towels. Default setting is warm water on medium load, so every load I push 4 buttons (ON, cold, high water, start) and off it goes. Delicates and wool cycle are also excellent.. never damages clothes (I even wash bras in a bra bag). This is the smallest machine I've had and I'm very happy with its capacity. No problems at all. Bought i...Read more
t at Good Guys for just over $400 so great buying! If you accidentally leave the lid up it will finish the washing section of the cycle then drain, but can't spin. It will 'beep' until you put the lid down. You cannot delay the start time of the load. Clothing must be carefully removed at end of cycle as sometimes it is caught under the agitator 'wings'. It has an agitator for good clean washing, inexpensive, reliableSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

USELESS
Incapable of either washing a single queens sized sheet or a small load of infants clothing. "smart' sits there going beep when a small load cannot spin - poor design of the agitator & internals means your load gets stuck in a load of useless cracks & crevices. This poorly considered design means small loads get scattered & the spin cycle does not work - machine shuts down. Same goes for large loads.
Buy something else.

Excellent Small Washer
Fits great in my small laundry. Its been a joy to use so easy and so quick with the cycles. Everything comes out very clean. Its very quiet. The only way I know its finished is when it beeps to tell me. I've only owned it 3 months but so far I would recommend.
size, ease of use, good clean wash

Awesome Small washing machine.
After having had a F&P 5.5kg washing macine for the last 14 yrs, with only one service call req'd, when it died, letting out the magic smoke, I decided to get another and not throw more money at repairing this old one. Due to floods in Brisbane we had to wait over a week to receive the new machine.
Wow this is so quite compared to my old one. It does an awesome job, the spin is so fast the clothes come out great, not wet like my mums old machine. After no machine for almost 2 weeks, the new one has done 8 loads in its first day, perfect. Very Happy with this for the price.
Easy to install and use.

Follow up note: you should still avoid this washer. For any suckers who bought it, I have discovered two tricks that help manage (but do not fix) the problems. Firstly, ALWAYS put the water level at t... Read more
he lowest. Part of the reason loads ALWAYS become unbalanced is because they float around during the wash cycle even if you meticulously place them in a balanced way to begin with. It's still a sh&t washer, but it's significantly less sh&t if you know this trick.
