I have trouble with shuddering aswell for a long time. Put car in to ford in townsville a month ago and they told me car needs clutch replaced. Waited three weeks for part to come and put car in yesterday.
Now ford in townsville is telling me that the problem is far worse as the battery appears shifted and it is leaking acid which has caused major damage, and will cost alot to be fixed and maynot be covered by warranty.
Has anyone had trouble with battery leaking?

It seems like you have to do what you have to do though my advice is to take the car to a auto electrician shop such as kmart tyres and auto or put a better battery such as Marshall or key battery

Or you could try a totally different mechanical repairs workshop to diagnose and fix the problems

I have had 2 serious near misses on freeways when my 2009 Fiesta's engine has stopped completely, today I was lucky not to be mown down by B-doubles. This is related to a problem of more than 12 months of a variety of electrical failures, mainly the speedo going nuts then dropping to zero. Mechanical checks find nothing, an auto-electrician, which the disinterested service department at Bayford Coburg told me to go to, is trying to source a new dash display unit(without luck after 6 weeks, which indicates many of us must have the same problem).
If you Google "electrical faults with Ford Fiestas", you can see a big problem. Most of them have not had the full engine shutdown that I have experienced twice now, today could have been a disaster had I not been in the left lane on the Westgate Freeway.
Hey Ford, are you waiting for a fatality before you recall these cars? The auto electrician said he is seeing this problem a lot with both Focus and Fiesta, not confined to a specific year.

My daughter bought a 2014 Fiesta and has had continued trouble with the car bunny hopping on take off (its an auto), transmission shudder and loss of power. She has taken the car back to Ford 3 times but they treat her like an unintelligent person because she's young. And of course theres no fault with the car.
Has anyone had any luck getting these problems diagnosed? Every forum i look at i see people with this problem and ford doing nothing to help. Any luck with the person going to a current affair?

I haven't had all these problems with my 2014 Fiesta. I have found it doesn't have enough power to overtake out on the open road, especially on hills, so I drive accordingly and don't try to push it too hard. I've always been used to driving a more powerful car, so I just assumed the small Fiesta isn't built to have too much power. Other than that, I haven't experienced 'loss of power'. I wish your daughter luck. Sometimes it pays to be a thorn in the side of a company to get action.

My 2014 Fiesta had the same problems as your daughter's car. I had the car back to Ford 4 times. They finally had the computer replaced. But 2 months after the fix, the car has started hopping and shuddering again! I am being traumatised by the Fiesta - really wish someone could help!

I love the additional features of my October 2013 Fiesta but have had issues with the automatic transmission, already had clutch replaced once, and less than six months later same problem again, I am sooooo disappointed with this, we have to wait until 28 April to take it in to have it replaced. what makes me mad the dealer would have known this problem when we bought it and are continuing to sell them, ie, the Focus and the Fiesta both have the same transmission and Ford are unable to come up with a permanent solution. The car has only done 13000. Ford are offering an extended warranty on the gear box after 3 years, we are yet to find out if we will be offered this. Appears the clutch has to be replaced about every 5000kms.

Hi I was just wondering what actions people have taken over the transmission shudder? I have a 2012 Fiesta and have taken it back to ford atleast 3 times only to be told I can only have the computer rebooted. Yet the problem is still occurring, it is really frustrating and I want to get this fixed before it completely stuffs up. I've heard people have gone to A Currant Affair, did ford replace gearbox or car after that? Thanks

@Elle21... I don't know anything about this problem. I've only had my Ford Fiesta for 3 months and haven't had a transmission shudder.

Ford had the computer replaced. 2k mileage after the fixing, the little devil has started shuddering again - it might be worth of going to A Current Affair.

brian
brian

You could also try taking the car to a transmission specialist repairs workshop and see what they say as that is all they do and they probably can diagnosis of the problem and therefore fix it or it could be a electrical problem in which case a auto electrician shop might be able to help you

I'll assume manual. Yes this is normal. Fiesta manual has a pretty short 5th gear, reviews have noted this. Nothing to be concerned about

My 2014 had the same broblem - stalling when idling and shuddering on taking off. New clutch was fitted but new problems appeared. it randomly stops in the middle of traffic causing chaos! Even the ford mechanics couldn't figure out the cause!

Pariya20

I have this exact same problem. I bought the Zetec brand new in 2012. It stalls (without limping just shuts off) in traffic, while slowing down and when my air con was on, sometimes it starts and twice it hasnt. Ive had to take it in. Ford say they there is "no fault" as it only happened once since they took it in. Once I put a formal complaint letter in and informed them I had spoken to ACCC they then said the one time it replicated the same issue may have been due to the mechanic "driving it incorrectly and stalling it". They wouldnt even provide me with a loan car because "there wasnt a fault". I am going to Fair Trading and taking them to the tribunal in NSW for a full refund. which according to the ACCC we are entitled to due to the issue being a "major fault" - meaning it is deemed unsafe. If anyone would like to put a claim in please contact me and I'm sure we can figure something out collectively [email protected].

It could be a number of problems though the way you described it / it's most likely a electrical problem in which case a auto electrician shop might be able to help you / another great option is to take the car to a ultratune shop as they really know their stuff

I have a 2013 1.6 manual with 30k on the clock. The revs have always stayed high for several (up to 3 -4) seconds when changing gears even with no foot on accelerator. Its not a problem when doing hwy speeds but when changing from 1st to 2nd to 3rd is a bit un-nerving. When in neutral engine revs up an down ok, problem only occurs when in motion. any one have any idea?? thanks in advance. we have had warranty issues with wipers, door seals, squealing Continental tyres and rattling air bag actuator wiring looms in doors, never had a car like it.

I have a 2013 1.6 manual also and mine tends to rev a little, mainly when it is cold. I don't think there is too many new cars that don't. why manufacturers continue to programme ecus with this idiotic feature beggars belief. I always liken it to an anti stall but it's still a pain. I've got around mine slightly by taking my foot off the accelerator pedal a fraction of a second before I push the clutch in. been driving manuals for 43 years and it is a useless burden that is not needed but ford is not going to take any notice of me. just look at the complaints they've had about their autos. still, the fiesta is a far better car than the barina. I can live with the rev. the getz I had did it and the barina I test drove did it too. they all do it. I don't know what it is supposed to prove. I am not experiencing any of the other problems you mention,,,,,, yet.

I'm sorry I don't know, all I can say is most modern oil products should be good, your type of driving and location could have some bearing on your oil needs, maybe check with Ford.

david hambleton
david hambleton

Thank you for your reply bogg. I have since had my first service at 9,000klms and I am now using the above mentioned oil. I've done 1,000klms on it and it hasn't used any and seems to have quietened things down a bit from the original Havoline but that could be due to the fact that everything has bedded in. It meets ford spec A,B, and C for Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo so i'll see how it goes. In answer to my own question underneath, it used exactly 500ml in the first 9,000klms which I think is better than normal for a new engine.

What would be the normal oil consumption for a new 2013 1.6 litre fiesta in its first 15000 klms?

1 answer

You could ask the question to ford Australia workshop or you could have the oil pump, oil filter and oil changed anyway as never know what nasties what could be in the engine through make sure the engine is warm as the oil is thinner and easier to drain

What's the best fuel consumption any one has achieved from a 2013 fiesta hatch 1.6 manual on e 95. (mine is 15.6 kpl city cycle).

2 answers

brian

That would depend on how you drive it though if you are concerned about it you could try taking the car for a service so that the coil spark plugs and oil, oil filter and replacing the fuel pump and what not - another thing that helps with fuel consumption is some good quality tyres @ try spending 200 or 250 dollars plus on tyres and have the the tyres shop fit, alignment and balancing of 5 new tyres or if you have about 600 dollars plus to spend perhaps some Michelen or pirelli tyres would help

david hambleton
david hambleton

Thanks Brian. Everything has settled in ok now. I've only done 19,000 klms but on E10-95, if i drive like grandma with the wind up my back, on a flat road at 50kph in 5th, City cycle, with no stops and starts, i have achieved 5 litres per 100kms. It never gets a long run, but the best i got was 18kpl. The 2 inch Magnaflow probably helps. The tyres are still the original continental 185-55-15. I changed from Valvoline 5w30 to Penrite 5w40, still Ford's same specs.

why isn't it law for all vehicles to have a spare tyre regardless of size or cost?

3 answers
steve
steve

Because this is Australia. I thought it was the law but on checking there is no law in any State that says must have one. When you think of the distances between towns, it should be the law that you have one.

It annoys me that the Ford Dealer did not tell me that the Fiesta only has a spare as an "option" and just did not see it as a safety issue. If it were not just a money making venture, then why have the space still for a full size wheel?

david hambleton
david hambleton

you're absolutely right about the wheel well steve . I'd buy a spare from the wreckers before I'd pay 300 from a dealer. to be fair to ford it does state in the manual that a spare wheel is an option. lets face it. nearly all manufacturers r going away from spares. I don't like it and neither does anyone else. unless there's a consumer back lash or a change in legislation we've got 5 chances.

Shevek

They may have changed this. The WZ Ecoboost I bought last year has a full spare.

if it's out of warranty it probably doesn't matter as there r some very good after market products. as for $184 they can and they will.an ordinary service is probably &100 cheaper than a stamp on a log book. I just got a 15000km quote for my 13 fiesta petrol and ultra tune were $50 cheaper than fords fixed price, still including 12 mts road assist. shop around. u don't have to go to a dealer for a log service.

if its a German made model WS the aircon maybe poor on a hot day and if its a zetec the alloy rims are soft and can buckle easy. but the rest is great, you can always tint the windows and fit aftermarket alloys.oh and the 1.4l auto combination maybe a bit slow for some so go for the 1.6l manual. but all in all much better than the other 2009 model light cars out there.

Why does my ford fiesta 2012 use excessive oil? Having to fill it up all the time.

1 answer
Rhinotr2000
Rhinotr2000

Take it to your trusted mechanic and ask him to take a look at the seal join between the engine and the transmission. I heard some people say there was an issue with in adequate torques on the bolts making a small gap for oil to dribble out. I did this to my car and then took it to Ford they said it wasn't oil but it was grease from manufacture. Im pretty sure my mechanic can tell the difference between grease and oil but Ford fobbed me off at that point and didn't want to take responsibility with anything. I'll check up my car on 2nd service and complain to them again
