Owner of three LR Focus’
Focus LR (2002-2005)There are Four cars of this model in the family with nearly 850000 kilometers between them. 2x ST170’s (280 and 125k) 1x Zetec Manual(130k) and 1x LX Auto (290k)(my nephews). They drive superbly and have been super reliable. These cars would suit anyone looking drive in varied conditions and who enjoy fantastic handling. They are very easy to work on and most parts are available. If you source parts look at UK and US suppliers, you will get better parts a lot cheaper. ... Read moreom the USA, the lines are are different for left hand drive. I plan to keep driving my cars and may convert to in wheel electric drive if the components are cheaper in the future. The ST170’s aren’t super quick but they are a joy to drive, just clicked over 280k in my daily driver and still going strong. I service every 5-7500 k’s and drive 7-800 k’s per week. Buy filters and oil when they are on sale. Using Ryco ST632Z? and Nulon 5-30w European. You can get rotors from DBA and brembo pads from Brakes Direct in QLD. ST breakers in the UK can supply used trim parts etc. Jegs, Summit racing, CFM and FXwerks supply excellent parts that will be cheaper than the auto stores in Australia. I have a new RTS single mass clutch to fit in the 125k ST170. I plan to fit stiffer anti-roll bars and new shocks. Everything has Goodyears, tough, grippy Assurance Triple max for the LX 15” and Eagle F1 for the ST170’s have used both directional and assymetric, great tyres and tough. Pilot sports are nearly double the price and I don’t trust them on dirt roads. The brakes and tyres pull the car up very abruptly. A taller driver can fit in it, the visibility is excellent as are the headlights on normal globes. They don’t miss features, the ST170’s even have stability control. ST Dashes have a common fault where the back lights flicker this is intermittent and can be managed by adjusting the dimmer. Getting a P1518 code for the camshaft seloniod, it can be cleaned out but my retaining bracket is warped so it sonetimes plays up when cold or revved to redline. Reconditioned CD stackers can by purchased from the UK for a pittance and other fords use the same 6006 unit. The full workshop manual is available of you join ford forums. There are also plenty of videos on youtube for most jobs. I love my Focus’ and my high K car deserves a full engine rebuild but I need it on the road.

Read morel them country's and never missed a beat and so comfy I would love to get my car but can't afford all the charges they want and there is no Ford focus c max in Australia there is Ford focus but no c max, that car drives so well I really miss it but they want about $5000 with port charges, shipping cost, roll on roll off charges plus thing you never heard of .So if you know of anyone in Australia with a c max they want to sell please let me know also the cost to run that car was really great it cost us about $200 to $250 in diesel that's brilliant. Ask I lots of room took my disability scooter and 2 very large suitcases and 2 small cases.
Most annoying pile of you know what
Focus LR (2002-2005)The first time I drove this car after I paid for it I turned on the indicators and the wipers came on. Have had it now for 6 months and still can't get used to this. And then make the same mistakes with my "normal" car with it's blinkers being on the "normal" side. This car and others like it should not be allowed to be this way in our country. ... Read moreterior light come on by default when you switch the car off and it stays on for a good 30 seconds whether you want it to or not. Revealing your face to the whole outside world the moment you pull up. Forget any idea of doing any surveillance with this bomb. It takes only premium oil 5W30 expensive every time you change it and the filter is just as costly. The brakes on these same as Mercedes. The pad only covers the middle of the rotor so it wears a track right in the centre of the rotor leaving a lip on the rotor and it needs to be replace whenever you have to change your pads. The clutch is pretty much the same on a manual so after the car gets about 80000 ks on it the clutch will be weaker for the next 80000 and will slip when you need to get away from the lights at speed. Then there is that annoying chime when you immediately don't put your seatbelt and you turn the key letting your neighbours know that you are off to work at 4am. How annoying at such an hour. Oh but there is an upside to this car. It does have rather a nice sounding stereo and good aircon. Feul economy is not that great at around 7.5 on average for 100km highway and up to 10 litres to 100 around the city and performance compared to some Korean models 1.6 engines can run rings around this Focus 1.8. But the focus feels a bit quieter and more modern. All in all it's just a work car. But maintenance cost can be skyhigh in comparison to other models
Good...to a point
Focus LR (2002-2005)This car has served us well over the past 160k km. It's been regularly serviced and has been a pretty good runner with trips for 2 years to and from the airport almost daily and then 2 years to and from the city almost daily. It's accommodated family well, has a basic interior but is functional, easy to maintain and without any components breaking or malfunctioning internally.
After the 160k mark we have encountered a raft of electrical issues (lights malfunctioning), air conditioner issues (compressor died) and hoses, etc failing.

Pleasant Driving and steady performance
Focus LR (2002-2005)I bought this car mainly for a 25 mile commute, but for also general driving. I find the controls, handling to be very good, and it is always a pleasure to drive. Turbodiesel response makes it feel fast, though in reality there is not much more available if you push it. Always driven gently until warmed up, as for any car or motorbike I have ever owned. Serviced at main dealers in warranty and by me afterwards, always with 12500 mile oil changes using Ford oil. Usually driven on supermarket fuel. Mileage now 107,000. No faults or unscheduled wo
... Read morerk, and there is no corrosion and very little sign of wear of interior. Last MOT advised slight wear on front suspension bushes. Eolys topped up by main dealer at about 80,000, cat/DPF still working from new.
Nice little car
Focus LR (2002-2005)for a small car I'm quite impressed!
Steering is fairly responsive, very zippy, and the 5spd manual makes it a fun car to drive. So far no issues and I've got 170k on the clock,
To put fuel in the car you need your key to open the cap, also to open the bonnet you need to move the ford emblem at the front and use the key which gets annoying but it's not a deal breaker, you get used to it and the indicator stick is on the left side of the steering wheel compared to most other cars where it's on the right.
It's cheap on fuel, easy to park, plenty of room inside and it's a zippy little car!

A fine car that will last a lifetime!
Focus LR (2002-2005)I bought my 2003 LR in 2011 so it was 8 years old and it had 44,000km on it. I service it only once a year and drive it full time. I've only had wear issues - Changed my tyres, changed my plugs etc. I've never had an issue with this car. Ford as a brand is reliable(I've had two Falcons and my current Focus, none of which have ever caused any issues with me). This car will just keep going without a rattle, shake or stutter. Perfect first car and/or perfect get-around everyday car. I've now done 105,000km on it. Long Live The Focus!

Excellent Handling, Easy To Live With
Focus LR (2002-2005)I've had the focus for 9 years now, have been really happy with it. Feels well made, doors shut with a satisfying thud! Not much has gone wrong with it, power steering pump died, auto trans needs topping up now and then, and driver's power window needed fixing. However, not bad for a 13-year-old car that lives outside and has 150,000kms on it. Even the stereo still works perfectly, very happy.
