Hi. I have a 2018 Ranger. Every time I turn the engine off there’s a high pitched electonic whine that comes from the engine bay. Audible up to about 5 metres so quite loud. any ideawhat this coul be please and can it be turned off ?
Quite common issue. Does not seem to be a problem. Mine did it from new to 100,000km. Then I sold it.
Not an issue at all. The car is performing diagnostics on all actuators and control systems post drive. Most modern cars will run diagnostics briefly after it is shut off. Some are audible some are not. Either way it’s no need to be concerned. Hope this puts you at ease a bit
My ford ranger model 2016 2.2 High Rider has just receive a new turbo.I have not drive 100 km and the spanner light come on again and it have no power at all. What could the problem be?
Have a 2016 wildtrak I jump started it and only to find later that I shouldn't have connected the negative terminal to the battery but to the earth/ body of the car. It showed the white smoke and has since lost power. How do I fix this?
We have a 2016 Ranger amd the paint on the bonnet has started to crack like a spiders web. It's not the clear coat cracking but the actual colour. Has this happened to anyone else? It is always garaged and only gets driven once or twice a week. Cheers
Hi Tanya
you'll need a spray painter that is from slack cleaning while in paint preparation or someone has put brake fluid on your car at some point.
Hope this helps and no mine is all good.
Hi i have a ford ranger xlt 4x4, 2017, mi issue is sometimes when i stop the engine and then turn on again the main screen stays black but sound still on, i done a master reset and still happening?
Sounds like screen takes a long time to register.
Sorry dude auto elec is your best bet.
2017 XLT 3.2. I’m new to towing. I have 2.5 tonne ATM off road van, single axle, being off road it is tall (3m). DO35 hitch. I have read three Ranger towing reviews on line and none mention my issue. I find the steering extremely light and “nervous”. Especially when doing 90 km/h on a freeway and trucks pass me (going in same direction as I am). My whole rig drafts towards the passing vehicle and then away from it after they pass.
All this makes me stressed, I feel like if I lose concentration for a second I’ll end up with a fatal sway or something.
I did add air bags to raise the rear back up under towing load, didn’t really help. Is towing always like this and I just have to get used to it?
Sounds like the trailer has a problem with weight distribution, too much at the rear not enough at the front, should have 10% of total weight on the towing hitch
Thanks UJR. Yes it is a bit low on ball weight, 160kg when van was mainly unladen at 2200. I had the fresh water tanks (2 x 95l) split so I can just fill the one ahead of the axle (they were joined so there was no way to control the location of the water). On my next trip I’ll get more heavy stuff into the front boot to try to increase ball weight.
I have a 2013 triton towing 2.5 atm caravan and initially had the same lightness and twitching of the cars front end. You could feel the car jumping a couple of degrees to the left and right when driving over 80kms/h. Really scary. I went out and bought a weight distribution system and that fixed most of the problem. My car and van combination have no issues when a truck passes me in the other direction, but having a truck overtake me in the same direction even only 10 km/h faster is more of an issue, still not sure why tho as I thought a truck coming head on would be more problematic.
You need to look at weight distribution on the trailer and suspension on your car especially the rear of your car
Hissing noise during acceleration on the left hand side of engine. Ford ranger diesel manual 2014. Powertrain warning light came on going up a hill. Any help?
My 2018 XLS Ranger seems very rough. Not sure if its the gearbox, is this common?
Might have to take of EGR and pipe then clean it out (soot) give that your 1st option and is there any lights on dash?
No, no lights, seems to shudder a bit a take off and rough at 1500 rpm
Has it been lifted? If so by how much? The Ranger is pretty sensitive to tailshaft geometry changes that occur when you lift it. A spacer can help in this case but depending on the lift it can be very difficult or impossible to eradicate completely.
It's likely a torque converter issue, apparently this is common and ford just say that's how the car is but actually metal from the converter is damaging your gear box, get it looked at asap
Shudder on takeoff is not a torque converter issue - it is the tailshaft centre bearing throwing out. Torque converters are a fluid coupling. The only way that could cause a shudder is if it is out of balance and that will only intensify with increased rpm. Shudder on takeoff is practically synonymous with too much lift in the rear or incorrect centre bearing angle.
I havent lifted the car, its stock, Ford said its common and probably the shaft out of balance or the bearing is too high but no answer when or how to fix.....I can see a complaint to Ford coming and if no action, Dept of Consumer affairs. You pay $55K for a new car you expect it to at least run smooth. Why dont they recall??. Thanks everyone for your comments
Hi how do I fit a 2018 Wildtrak sail to a 2018 XLT do I have to drill holes in the tub top edge help please?
Sorry I've got no idea
The Wildtrak has 6 captive nuts (3 per side) on the top surface of the tub sides. These retain the roller shutter guide trims. The rest of the sports bar assembly is attached via the standard load-bearing hard points common to all Rangers.
The horn goes off randomly. I have had it at the dealer 3 times for this problem but it still isn’t fixed. Has anyone else had this problem?
Maybe Casper is playing with you...lol on a serious not maybe a cut wire touching a negative somewhere could be when they put the new airbags in around the steering wheel give that a crack.
I have a March 2015 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 6 speed manual.
Gearstick has become very floppy and will not go into reverse.
Seems like all the other gears are in the wrong place.
1st seems to be where reverse was.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
As the 3 year warranty has expired.
I have a 2wd 2007 ford ranger 3.0 turbo diesel dual cab high rider, the engine was shot so i bought a 2007 cab chassis 4x4 ex telstra the was a repairable write off, i changed engines and gearbox also i put the 4wd front axle in, the engine runs, the gearbox and 4wd work ok but the rev clock doesnt work nor any off the gauges, when i turn the lights on the dash is very dim and is flashing when i rev the engine the rev clock works at times and so do the fuel and temp gauge, ive tried everything changed dash, computer, alternator, i noticed 2nite that when i rev engine with lights on it starts to miss slightly, can anyone help me?
Have 2017 xls and just fitted heavy duty rear lift 300kg to 600kg springs. By professionals.
looking at the rear of the car now looks like diff has moved to the right by about an inch.
It measures it to . when showing the place which fitted it they say thats impossible as it all locks in. They said theres nothing we can do .. Is this something they have done incorrect or what is going on here?
Take it to another suspension shop. I suspect they are not being honest with you. From factory my rear alignment was way out - twisted counter clockwise (ie tracking left off the road slightly). Seems the manufacturing tolerances for the rear suspension are pretty loose. My local Fulcrum workshop is run by a 4WD guru. They were able to rack it straight saving my tyres. Leaf rear ends have a lot more room for correction and misalignment than coil sprung trailing link setups.
I have a 2015 3.2 ranger xlt not starting but cranking.Engine light is not coming on at starting.no fuel going to injectors. Any ideas?
Hey there I have just repaired a 2012 px ranger 2.2, same symptoms as yours abd found the injector pump front bolt had worked loose and as they have no keyway just interference tappered fit the engine was turning over but not the pump, so just used red super lock loctite and retorqed the left hand thread bolt to 65 foot pounds and all good and running well hope this helps cheers Rick
Electrics have shut down and park indicated light is flashing. Any ideas?
3 week old 2018 Wildtrak and same issue happens to me today. All instrument controls and dashboard either blacked out or dead. Still drove ok, but indicators not working. Main display screen still working and radio on, even after key removed and alarm activated, radio and screen stays on. Disxonnected and reconnected battery terminal and restarted the engine and that appears to have fixed the issues, but NRMA guy advised against driving it as he has seen this before on Rangers and Everests and says it is liable to happen again soon and could be dangerous depending on circumstances.
Has any one had a rear main oil seal go on them at 126 km? Two door made in 015 late 3.2, diesel.
our mechanic has just told us @ 41,000km we have a rear main seal oil leak. just doing some research prior to contacting the dealer for warranty. What did you end up doing?
My ford dealer ship is going to fix it for free that’s why I always take it back to where I bought it and have it serviced there
Hey guys just a quick question I have just brought a 2015 ford ranger xl px cc space cab manual do yous have any more pros and cons please cheers
Rear main seal is a known issue, check ford forums, theirs lots of information.
Hello im new on diesel car. I bought double cab ford ranger 2.2 engine 2015 model and I don't know which diesel i must use on it. Any ideas?
I have a PX II 2016 XLS I run it on any diesel. According to a RAAF friend who is a diesel mechanic and also has a Ranger, they will run fine on any diesel. I get whatever is going at the time and it is as smooth as.
Diesel is diesel. Anyone saying otherwise is a bull artist. Premium diesel is a con. Do you think truck operators would risk a $250,000 prime mover by using inferior diesel if there was an alternative?
I have a 2015 ranger for the last week or so the power trains light has been coming and then loss of power between 2000 and 3000 revs no matter what gear any ideas why?
Hi Josh, had same issue with mine, took it to Ford garage connected up diagnostic equipment, stuck EGR, they fix problem and said if it happens again, they will replace valve. It happened the next week, I disconnect the wire plug on left side of engine near exhaust manifold and reconnected it and all good. Regards Clive
