Also referred to as: Ford Ranger PX.II / PX.III 4x4 3.2L Turbo Diesel XL 2019 and Ford Ranger PX.II / PX.III 4x4 3.2L Turbo Diesel XL 2021.Great work vehicle.
I have a 2016 px2 xl single cab 3.2, 4x4 6sp manual as a company supplied work vehicle since new and now ar 123000kms in just on 3 years. Previously I had 2007 ranger xlt4x4. As a heavy diesel tech I carry my tools with me every where. Absolutely twice the truck my old 07 was and far more capable off road with the bigger wheel track. For base model it is specced well above my old xlt and has everything I cold want in a work vehicle. It is also my after hours transport as it is extremely comfortable to drive. Extras added for the role are two ...Read more
Xtra leaves to the rear spring packs. This thing is heavy, 3300kgs minimum 100% of the time and up to 3500kg when transporting oils and parts etc to job site's that include farms, quarrys, river beds and any other place machine decide to break down. This thing has never seen use at its empty weight. Regularly tow a trailer also when transporting heavy machine components to workshop seeing a gross weight of 6 tons. Ispend a great deal of time off road but can have days in excess of 400-500 kms road use. Fitted an upgrade chip at around 60000kms which is Bluetoothed to my phone for adjusting chip power setting if desired but it stays permanently in spot plus mode. This chip has made the very derated and lazy engine the beast it should have been for its size. Performance even at 3300kgs operating weight is amazing with only very occasionally requiring a shift down to 5th on some of our New Zealand mountainous roads. Passing is effortless and usually has speeds of 120-140kph at end of overtake manuvers. Fuel economy has improved greatly along with huge power increase. Long trips I usually see 9.1 to 10.5 kms per litre as opposed to 7.5-8.0 with chip turned off. Add a trailer with up to 2 ton and the vehicle hardly flinches with that 5 cylinder thumping away upfront, obviously fuel figures drop but only around .5 - 1 km/litre. I adore the rear locking diff for my off road sites as it gives me a true 4wd as opposed to the old ranger giving you only 2 wheels driving if I find the terrain a little soft ie river beds, farms etc. Personally can't fault the vehicle in its role or as a personal driver. Although the weight does make itself known on down hills and cornering but with the rear spring pack upgrades the vehicle sits very flat when cornering at speed and I frequently find myself sitting behind cars on the highways due to most car drivers not confident with their corning speeds. All servicing and maintenance is done by myself so as to ensure confidence for myself when we'll out of cell coverage for large parts of the day. I spanner it and I know exactly the condition of every component under and in it. Sorry for the long story but just a point of view from someone that uses and drives the ranger in a more demanding role.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very Poor Auto Transmission
Biggest issue with the vehicle is the automatic transmission, it is the worst I have ever driven by far and I have owned Automatics from a 1967 Fairlane to many others through the years, I am also a trade qualified motor mechanic and worked in the industry for 10 years. The first 3 gears tend to change to early (at low revs) especially the shift between 2 and 3, then you have to put your foot down to keep moving because the engine is lugging, then the engine revs flare like it is slipping a clutch or the converter. This problem didn't exist when I picked it up but was very evident at 3,000 km. Have taken it back to the dealer and they tell me they are all like that, it is "normal" which I find hard to believe.

Very solid
Previous utes have been Triton and a Hilux but the Ranger chews them both up (although new 2016 model versus 2012 Triton and 2012 Hilux). There is absolutely no way to compare the 3 because the Ranger is in a different class. The towing (horse float with 2X600kg horses) is a no brainer because the Ranger has more power and gears. The steering and handling of the Ford is also in a different class to the other two. Comfort and size for me is also important as I am 6'6". The Ranger is streets ahead in this area. General feel of the Ranger is way s...Read more
uperior but that could be because it's newer. The Triton was nowhere near as good in towing or general highway use (slower and gear changes not as fast or accurate and swayed like buggery. Both the Triton and Hilux didn't have as much grunt either. Fuel consumption is similar. There is really no way to compare the Ranger with the other two and after nearly 2 years....no issues.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Can't stop the fires
I brought the ranger in early march 2017 for use in the agricultural industry. After using it around the paddocks it has built up dry feed on the cross member of the chassis. Which in turn packs around the exuast pipe and cosiquently catches fire. It's happened three times so far.All that ford are saying is that it's not the vehicles problem but what I use it for! I thought I was buying a reputable vehicle from a reputable company how wrong I was.As it seems it's only my business and my neighbors businesses that it will affect when things go wrong not thiers!

Not perfect! But pretty darn good!
I've owned a PJ Ranger XL Supercab manual for 8 years now having bought it from the first owner in 2008.
We have other vehicles on the property Landcruiser wagon, HJ79 utility, Ford F350 4WD and diesel X-trail.
The ute was bought to tow our 19 foot tandem caravan as the F-350 was more suited to heavy farm duties, stock crate/stock trailer and fuel was so so for long runs. fitted with hi line ARB canopy, ECB bar 8 inch aftermarket alloys with larger 10:50 R 15 AT tyres.
The good, excellent engine, pulls from 1600rpm (even better with chip), 1...Read more

Worst thing to ever happen to me
I purchased my 2011 3.2L ranger April of 2015 from then till December these are the following problems I have had.
Gear box rattling - was initially thought to be the clutch thus replacing it for no reason
Gear box rattling no2- gear box was dismantled and gears were "tightened"
Tail shaft dropping- after they removed the gear box the technicians didn't tighten the coupling bolt to the tail shaft causing it to drop and shake violently.
Gear selector plate dropping- this has happened twice now. I was told ford is working on a new bolt that won't come loose.

Nightmare of all nightmares
I purchased this Ford Ranger brand new in July 2015. It has on MANY occasions either failed to start, stalled, experienced rough down changes, revved up instead of idling, or revved up while in cruise control while on flat ground for no reason, It has been attended to by 3 of Fords dealer workshops as well as a RAC breakdown technician, On no occasion have they been able to find out what is causing the problem. It is 8 months since I bought the vehicle and it has spent around 5 of those months in one or other workshop. All I get from the dealer...Read more
s and the HQ in Melbourne is that they can't fault it so I must take it and use it and if it faults again bring it back and they will see what they can do, Would you be happy with that? I certainly am not. I so regret buying this vehicle. November 6th 2017 Update: Customer focus failure 101 I purchased this lemon of a Ford Ranger brand new in July 2015. Right from the beginning and now for over two years it has either failed to start on occasions, stalled, experienced rough down changes, power failures, revved up instead of idling, or revved up while in cruise control while on flat ground for no reason. During its first 8 months the vehicle spent around 5 of those months in one or other of 3 of Fords dealer workshops in WA and was also attended to by a RAC breakdown technician in Perth. However they failed to find out what is causing the problems. Since then it has also been attended to by 3 Ford dealers in NSW as well as the NSW NRMA. Each time all I was told was there are no stored codes so we can't diagnose the fault. The HQ in Melbourne just tell me that if their technicians can't fault is then there is nothing they can do. More recently Melbourne HQ sent a technician to WA to look at the vehicle. His word on the matter is that I must have tampered with the vehicle and therefore Ford have voided the warranty. How utterly ridiculous! Also, they have systematically lied to me by telling me there were no stored failure codes because after it had been in their workshop I took it to a local independent car workshop and asked them to check for codes ... and there they were, all pointing to the problems I have experienced! After that Ford had it in their workshop and again, when asked, stated the codes (which I have a print out of) were not there! After that I took the vehicle to another independent car workshop where they put the vehicle on their dynamic testing unit and ran tests and found it was the turbo's electrics that were failing on an intermittent basis. The turbo was replaced and the vehicle retested and all appears to be ok now. But Ford still hold their position of having nothing further to do with the vehicle having voided the warranty. How I so regret having bought lemon and having anything to do with the Ford people. In USA I would have been given a replacement under the lemon law, here in Australia all I get is to suck the bitter lemon! How unfair is that!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
