DONT BUY ANYTHING ELSE
I purchased my Giant from Ivanhoe cycles, I lived in the country at the time and didn't have a car. The bike was my only mode to transport, and I can happily say its the most reliable thing I've ever used!! Ive only serviced it once in over 2 years and 700km its never let me down and rides like new. I don't show much care to it either, I just jump on it and go, up gutters, gravel roads. you name it its been there.

Hybrid fit for touring
Bought mine in 2012 and cycled across the Nullarbor in 2013 - absolutely no problems. I towed a trailer with a load of 35 kg pls 20 on the back. Minor service in Esperance as part of the course, bike is still going strong and we are off to Darwin now. Definitely recommend.

Brakes and TBE's response
Brakes are an issue, grinding bits of Aluminum off of the rim. TBE Osborne Park (Wayne) says what do you expect when you just pay $600 for a bike. Absolutely shocked at TBE's response. I would never deal with TBE again.
The Giant bike is generally not bad at all, but this brake issue is very annoying.

Giant Cypress - 2005/06 Edition
While growing up, I wasn't really into cycling even though they were a mode of transport until I made a health and logical conscious choice to go and get my first real proper bike. I was not comfortable in riding on the road and I was also worried about the fanciful features of other bicycles. This bike was on sale and it was categorised as a mixture of Mountain Bike (MTB) and Road Bike, with 700C tires but with treads of a MTB and front adjustable suspension.

he saddle was hard and just had to change it; with no experience what so ever, I spent a great deal of time and money buying various types of saddles and eventually found the Gel type saddle to be the best choice for me. Being a Hybrid, it is suppose to offer the best of both worlds; but it is not a master of both just merely capable. It is not as light as a high performance expensive carbon fibre road bike including the finesse; while it is also best judged not to be able to handle like a proper MTB either especially that most high-end MTBs have dual suspension and would offer carbon fibre materials as similar with road bike counterparts. This is good as a starter bike because it accommodates both environments while also offering the rider reasonable comfort. Quality parts and build quality was also one of the reasons why I bought this bike. Now even though this bike was purchased between 2005 and 2006; it is very very robust, easy to clean and maintain while not making you bankrupt. Its 2012 and I still have this very same bike and I do ride it when I am board riding my road bikes. Robust, Capable on-road & off-road; Comfortable; Cheap on Maintenance; Gives you a very good workout (exercise); Very Heavy; Cruising Speed is Slow; Would need to be in reasonable shape to be able to achieve a good workout with this bike;3 comments

How can you find out the year if your buying it used?

Hi Brady,
You can easily visit the global Giant website and as long as you know the specs of the bike you're buying second-hand as well as the colour; you should be able to match it to their online database which should be sitting in the archived section.

I have a Cypress and ridden over 6000 kilometres
I walk past my T5 Merida and take the Giant every time.
Only time weight is an issue is in the hills, still average an easy 25KPH.
