Brilliant entertainment
Google home is the best gadget to date. I say good morning and it gives me the latest weather and news then plays the music of my choice. She entertains the kids of all ages as well. When I come home I say "I'm Home" and she welcomes me. Brilliant.

Waste of money
It isn't the far better US product, don't get the two mixed up. At the end we have family yelling at it because it struggles to hear from about 2m away, and it has very poor understanding. it's far easier to type in requests using the phone, which means the voice activation mechanism is useless.

The heart of a do it yourself smart home!
I was a bit unsure of this product as i wanted to set up a smart home but worried it might be a gimmick.
It is not! Controls my entertainment system and smart lights by voice. My split system a/c by voice and gives the weather info and entertains the kids for ages with them asking ' hey google what does a tiger....etc sound like'
I'm hoping google will be adding new features soon to be able to get it to work with the ring video doorbell and smart locks and cameras.
When you consider home automation used to cost tens of thousands of do...Read more

Smart Home, here I come!
Seriously this device is absolutely amazing, I can control my lights with LIFX Globes, appliances with Wifi Smart Plugs, I can set an alarm to wake up to, I can select TV Shows and Movies on Stan and Netflix to play on my TV through my Chromecast that's hooked up to my TV, I can play Music through my Chromecast-Audio that's hooked up to my "Receiver" through it's speakers or the GH itself, I can add to my Shopping List (and more to come as extras are purchased) all with voice activation.
Google Home is very easy to setup, truly, I'm a Linux ...Read more
user so I know when something is time consuming to setup, GH is a breeze, it basically does it all for you and you can also go to geek mode and configure even more things with other compatible devices, which will come later for now I'm liking the ease of which the setup and configuration is handled by the Google Home. It also tells me about "my day" with weather and news updates when asked for, I'm still learning all the "commands" but they are fairly natural and even obvious sometimes, I don't have Children, but I would imagine kids would love the Google Home. Yes I did have to buy extra devices, but I've bought them slowly and have kept my eyes peeled for "specials" and discounts as they come up, this has also helped me to learn to control each device as I've bought them rather than spending hundreds all at once and never mastering anything. Seriously just buy a Google Home, they're in Australia now, unlike Alexa at the moment...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great hardware, software needs improvement.
So I bought the Google Home this week and have been using it for 6 days. This is the Australian model.
You can checkout its features on their website or by reading other reviews, but I want to focus on its user-friendliness in this review in terms of what it does well and what still needs improvement.
To run the device you will need wireless internet, a device running Android, and the most recent Google and Google Home app.
One thing (of a few) to note is that unless you have a paid subscription to Youtube Red, Google Play or Spotif...Read more
y you will be unable to do the advertised command of "Hey Google play ______ song title". It does come with a 6 month subscription to Youtube Red but it will cost you after that. To trial what it would be like without that subscription, we only activated that today. First problem. The Australian model is meant to support multi-accounts where more than one person can link and be recognised by the device. Ours didn't - and it wasn't a user error, it was software. We spent over an hour with Google's online support team who couldn't resolve the issue even after factory resets, checking our devices capability and rebooting them as well. To be fair, they escalated this to their software engineers and I received a phone call from the US the next day to resolve the issue. The device now has installed and recognises when I speak and when my boyfriend speaks.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Update Mar 8th 2018
Just got some nice WIFI globes x2 - "SMART BULB Wireless RGB LED WiFi Lamp Light" $21ea.
On my Android phone used the SMART LIFE app to connect to the bulbs via my WIFI. Then added Google Home as an authrorised user on the app. Not hard to do. Two lamps are now voice controlled.
So now I can say "Hey Google .... lights (or name each light) .... on / off / blue / pink / 'sunset' / 'romantic' / dim 50% etc" :)
Not essential but a bit of fun and I always wanted to test it out.

Finally a way to turn any house into a smart home
This is not a gimmick as many of us had assumed. I was also skeptical at first but after using it I couldn't live without it. By its own it won't do much other than playing music and telling weather reports and some jokes, but you'll start to see the potential after you buy other smart devices.
I would recommend devices that supports IFTTT (look it up at google, it allows different hardware and services to work together if they support this standard) for a start. To turn dumb devices (such as lights or anything that works with just power on ...Read more
and power off, I recommend buying Belkin Wemo Switch/Insight. Hooking it up to your table lamp for example and you can just say 'Ok Google, turn on/off the lights' and it will do the trick. I don't agree with the 1 star review that it isn't ready in Australia yet. You just need to get the right tools, although that may mean spending more money but totally worth it! I also bought a smart LED lightbuib which works seamlessly with Google home, from www.lifx.com.au It is also a great kitchen helper like the other reviewer said. Being able to set timer using Google Home while both hands are dirty or busy is very useful when cooking. I also keep asking Google Home for the time as there's no clock around the kitchen XD Overall, very pleased with the product and the future of smart home is now.Similar opinion? The Future is Now.
I was skeptical and apprehensive as it is expensive, but having recently discovered wifi speakers( +$150 for just one) this is an intelligent and helpful home companion that does so much more.
I have been waiting since the 80's for home automation and a voice controlled presence. Google Home finally does this.
It will play any music you can think of from youtube music, radio stations (from tunein or iheart radio).
Tell you the weather/news and even read poems/quotes or Shakespeare .
With add ons (a few smart plugs and light globes)- It wil...Read more

Just got this today
Bought this product today, As a non techy person I was incredibly happy with how easy it was it was to set up. So far I have played music and been impressed by the sound quality given the size of the unit. I have also listened to local radio, asked about weather forecasts, listened to the news and played the trivia game. good fun.

Half-baked brain damaged product - use your Android Phone instead
The promise of Google Home is quite simple - it is the voice activated hub of all your smart devices ..... one caveat - if you are in the United States.
If you are in Australia, it's just a big version of your Google Assistant on your smartphone with some pretty lights.
What is the use of releasing a device in Australia that doesn't support the already supported third-party Assistant Apps?
Google's answer: Third party apps are synced with "Assistant Apps" on the Google Home app section. Now this "Assistant Apps" is launched in the US and today (August 3) it is launched in the UK.
A waste of $169. At least I bought it from a reputable store and not some grey market crap like from Kogan.

Excellent home assistant.
I was a bit sceptical at first to think this would be anything more than a gimmick, but, wow what a great device. I use mine in the kitchen and it is a great help as I am a chef and love cooking, the Google home helps me lots. I am thinking of getting another for the lounge room. If you like tech then you must get one, it took seconds to setup and there is so many things that it can do, the list is endless.

"Something has gone wrong" .. again
I love the potential of this device, but more than half the time it just doesn't work when it comes to playing Spotify, the main reason for my purchasing. If I hear again "Something went wrong, try again later", I will scream. At the moment, it just isn't up to scratch - should I just wait and hope a software update will fix the problem, I am not sure? This problem has been around in the forums for more than 6 months with no fix.
So, beware if you stream music, proceed very slowly or try the Echo.

Compact and feature rich
I purchased this as soon as it became available and was super excited to get it home. Once home, the app was very straight forward and it asked me to add multiple accounts without any difficulty. The advertised product indicated you can play music on demand, but what it doesn't tell you is that you be a premium subscription to a steaming service to perform this function

Far exceeded expectations
I purchased Google Home a day after it was launched and have had a few days to evaluate it. In the past I've used Siri & Cortana - both of which require a computer / device. Enter Google Home. If Alexa from AWS had been released for Australia I would have purchased whichever had been first, so cudos to Google for getting something to our market.
Google Home does an amazingly fast job of recognising and responding to your voice. You start with an "Ok Google" or a "Hey Google", it lights up and then responds to you. On the box are some simple ...Read more
commands, but by far the best and most useful ones for me will be: 1. Playing music. I find that the Youtube integration works best. I have a premium Spotify which seems to buffer every once in a while. I need to figure out why that's the case. Nevertheless, Youtube Red is free for 6 months. You can ask Google what song is currently playing, skip a song, pause a song. "Hey Google, play some dinner music". 2. Adding items to my shopping list - Just a quick "Hey Google, add cheese to my shopping list" works great. Then on your phone you just go to shoppinglist.google.com and you see your list on your mobile device. Clicking one of these makes it dissapear - just how it should be! 3. Adding items to my calendar. This uses the Google Calendar, so I just downloaded it on my IOS device and sync the calendar. You just say something like "Hey Google, add a 9am meeting to my calendar".Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
