Doesn't work, not worth the money
I received one for my birthday in July, bottom line is that it has a lot of problems. For the majority of questions it does not have the capability to provide an answer. It can answer things like "What sound does a (insert animal name here) make" (only common animals). If you ask when a building was built, when was a town founded, any historical question, any geographical question, any scientific or political question, anything more complex than "What sound does a kookaburra make" you will get an answer saying it does not understand.
If y...
Read moreou ask it to play something such as a music video from Youtube onto your Chromecast, my one tells me that I need a paid subscription (YouTube Red) before it will do it. Which is untrue. The weird thing is that my brother has one also, he says it does not do this with him so I don't understand the inconsistency. He did not believe me, so I put him on speaker phone and got him to ask it to play a music video, he was stunned to hear it refuse without a paid subscription. And if you have more than one Chromecast (we have four), you have no chance for anything. The string command of identifying the content, instructing to play, and naming the Chromecast is too long for it to listen to before it decides it cannot understand the string command. We gave it a good chance, several months, with all family members giving it a run. It's now turned off and in a cupboard, it was a waste of money. And I have not even touched on privacy concerns of a device with internet connectivity and a microphone logging all your activity and listening into your conversations.- 3 reviews

Great Concept and I'm sure it will get better
I was lucky enough to get a Google Home for Father Day from my Daughter which was great.
Setup was realtivley easy and I finally managed to get it paired with My Goolge Play Music account which is the best feature of it. I can simply say Google Play "Pop ballads" and it immediately connects and plays selected songs from what the classify Pop Ballads. Also great for listening to the news in the morning. Speaker sound is great fopr such a small unit
Voice training is not so good. Easy to complete but it recognises any and every voice that ...
Read moresays Hey Google so Im not sure that this feature works so well. Hell when the grandkids get to know how to do it. Overall for the price and functions its a great unit with good technology. Im sure it willg et b etter and better as time and the technology progresses.Brilliant start and I'm sure there's even more to come!
I got a Google Home for my birthday. It is amazing! So amazing that we went halves in buying home minis for each of the kids and bought a mini for the kitchen and lounge room. We signed up for a Google Play Music subscription for the family and we got Youtube Red for free. We can all stream our own music in our rooms and I've helped the kids (aged 4 - 10 yrs) set up playlists which even our 4 year old can control by herself. We already had a Chromecast and Netflix so now we can ask the google home to turn on the tv and play whatever we want on ...

Also we know that the American Google Home has more games and options like "read me a story" which we can't access yet - disappointing for the 4 yr old. We've found lists of commands on American sites that don't work on our Aussie one. But I think it's just a matter of time. I've found her very responsive and the set up through the google home assistant on my phone was easy. I think they're well worth the money. I love my Google Home but the minis are fine for the kids. Can't wait for the maxi to be released.Find out how Google Home compares to other Speakers

Nothing special
Just another gadget that doesn't really add anything except more technology for the sake of technology. While it works well as a bluetooth speaker, to use it for other things requires you to modernise your home and install wifi controls on everything. I can see this being useful down the track but not now. Unnecessary

It's Murder on the Dance Floor..but you better not kill the tune !
I have secretly been obsessing over our Google Home for the last 5 months. Yes it does promise to turn off the lights, play Netflix upside down and cook you dinner (well that is a little way off) but that is all stuff you can find in a Back Mirror episode.
The essence of the Home to me is that it plays a stream of whatever music you feel like and ask for..on a good quality speaker .. effortlessly! Just say "Hey Google play me some relaxing jazz" and it or rather she says "ok then here is relaxing jazz station" and up comes the music. Stop wh...

I really don't understand what it is for.... Doesn't get music from my network or much else.
It seems all Google Home is is a way for get you onto paid google apps. Music is only free on play for a month or so then you have to pay etc.
Good
- Handy to have an easily access verbal search engine to finish family arguments or get a recipe.
- Understands the ladies in my family fine.
- Speaker is of good enough sound quality for listening to music.
- Lets you verbally put YouTube videos etc onto your Chromecast. You have to know the name of it though or it just picks one for you.
- The reviewers here that are Google fan boys. I wish I was so I could say it was great.
Bad ...
Read more- Doesn't recognise my voice (male) 50% of the time. - No functions to access my huge library of music I have on my network (Server or PC) or personal playlists on my phone. This is the deal breaker for me, why do I want it then? - Most the functions open and advertised to the USA market are not available here. ie SMS or emailing etc. - You have to pay to access music on the stupid thing after the grace period is up. It wants you to pay for access to YouTube Red. - With the Bluetooth, fine if it would use playlists from my phone that I don't pay for but my house uses WiFi, so should it to access data. - It can't hear us giving commands from other rooms as advertised or is on a lot of reviewer video's. Maybe that is the USA version. - Try to put on a radio station and it keeps sending you to Google Play recordings, has only worked once on ABC news radio. There is NO way to easily access all the music I own already or listen to radio stations, which really grates me the most. I don't want to have to pay for music I already have or upload my music to Google. I have it here already. Basically we only use it now for a verbal timer in the kitchen when we are cooking. Occasionally ask it how long it takes to drive somewhere or ask it a question about dinosaurs. Other than that it is just using up my power. Hopefully some of the other apps come up that the yanks have. Tech demo at best.Related Articles

Very very good (and cool)
I received a Home Mini free when I purchased a Google Pixel 2 phone recently and I love it, except for only being able to only add one account. So the next day I purchased the standard Google Home and love it even more.
The Google Assistant is very good even though it's still learning/evolving. Being able to ask questions without typing on the phone is very convenient. It'll read out recipes for you too. The speaker can output a decent volume even though it's pretty small. Having a wireless speaker to stream music to is awesome. It'll stream...
Read more Google Play Music, radio stations on TuneIn, YouTube, Spotify, you name it. We have two Chromecasts in the house too and being able to tell the Home to stream content to one of those is pretty cool and easy to do. There are a few fun little easter eggs that you can access and can even create voice shortcuts to frequently used functions. There are so many things you can do with a Google Home, I can even get it to change profiles on my phone when I'm leaving the house or returning home. I'm barely even scratching the surface here though, I now want a full smart home so I can take full advantage! I found this really cheap at The Good Guys ($128). Can't recommend it highly enough!- 13 reviews

If you want a bluetooth speaker of decent quality this is good as it is. But it also come with the ability to answer question, remind you of things you need/want to do. Its an alarm, a timer. If you put it in your kitchen ask it for a recipe it will take you through it step by step, only going on to the next phase when you ask it. You can ask it to play music it will, not just any music specific songs, or genre or artist. Ask it to play a radio station it does.

Terrible! Too hard to set up! Google is just not customer focused. They're Google focused.
Very difficult to set up properly. It keeps telling me to do things then doesn't give me any options to actually do them.
I have already paid for and subscribed to YouTube red but this thing keeps asking me to subscribe to it again even though I already have it.
Very ordinary that the only music it will play is through paid for subscriptions anyway!!!! Chromecast will. Go figure.
Won't let me set up Google Assistant on my preferred email address...god knows why???
Answers questions very poorly, incorrectly or just has no clue and it can't u...
My team is working on that
My god - all the reviews here must have been written by plants. The google home has been released before anything works. It’s like a Steve Jobs demo of the iPhone before it was real. The zgoigle home is there to feedback to google what you ask it so google can actually develop a product. This is for early adopters only and is not ready for any mainstream use. I asked - what is the cricket score - sorry I can’t help you with that but my team is working on it. What is on today at the MCG. Sorry, I’m still learning about Aussie Rules. Turn...
Read more on my Samsung connected TV. Sorry I can’t help you with that. OK Google, play Body slam from my Spotify playlist - and I get Bodyslum Jazz. Ok google - stop the music. sorry I can’t help you with that. OK google turn off the music. the volume is at the minimum setting. Ok google shutdown. Sorry I can’t help you with that. OK google turn off. Sorry I can’t help you with that. OK google what is the news. And finally I get the ABC news. BUt then try to reorder the news recordings in the google home app.... as I wanted grandstand news first.... it’s not obvious. After three tries I finally figured out you have to hold a tiny dot to the right of the news program icon in the change order screen to change the order. There is a lot these reviewers are just deceiving you about. In summary - this is an absolutely crap overpriced invasion of google into the living room. Mine is going back to google and I’ll wait for the version 3.The Missing Link
Like most homes we have had WiFi for years. Since then we have gradually added a smart TV, Google Chromecast, a Google Play Music subscription and a Netflix Subscription. For Christmas this year we were given a Google Home. We were skeptical at first and thought it just another version of the voice assistant on our phones. We couldn't have been more wrong. Our Google Home now links everything and we can operate music and TV with our voice . Ask it to play your favourite album, TV show or a Youtube video and it does it. When u r finished ask it to turn off the TV and it does it, all with just voice commands. We use it all day. Highly recommended to link your home media in one easy to use device.

Incredible!
The Google Home was a risk purchase for me on the Boxing Day sales, although out of everything I’ve purchased, it’s come out the most joyable item. The Home can help you with everyday needs, and can even engage in a conversation with you. The best thing, it keeps on updating every day, with New learnt actions and sayings. I can’t wait to see the future of this product!

It's a good start
This device whilst good, could certainly be better and I think it will get there in time. It is great for answering questions about the weather and for streaming music, but I think it needs some refinements. It gets confused when the Google Home ad comes on the TV, yet is is only supposed to recognise our voices. It also occasionally babbles away to itself, unasked and gets told to shut up. Relatively easy to set up but does sometimes drop off the network for no reason. I'm sure most of these issues can be dealt with via software updates.

Great Home network Device .
A great addition to the home Network . The sound quality and volume was a pleasant surprise . Have found it to be much more consistent in understanding requests than Siri although their are still a few things that it needs to be able to do . You don't necessarily have to be a diehard google user to find uses for it but it helps . The iOS app is good generally with plenty of options and additions . Will only get better with time and I'm sure the kids will leave it alone eventually !

Brilliant entertainment
Google home is the best gadget to date. I say good morning and it gives me the latest weather and news then plays the music of my choice. She entertains the kids of all ages as well. When I come home I say "I'm Home" and she welcomes me. Brilliant.

Waste of money
It isn't the far better US product, don't get the two mixed up. At the end we have family yelling at it because it struggles to hear from about 2m away, and it has very poor understanding. it's far easier to type in requests using the phone, which means the voice activation mechanism is useless.

The heart of a do it yourself smart home!
I was a bit unsure of this product as i wanted to set up a smart home but worried it might be a gimmick.
It is not! Controls my entertainment system and smart lights by voice. My split system a/c by voice and gives the weather info and entertains the kids for ages with them asking ' hey google what does a tiger....etc sound like'
I'm hoping google will be adding new features soon to be able to get it to work with the ring video doorbell and smart locks and cameras.
When you consider home automation used to cost tens of thousands of do...

Smart Home, here I come!
Seriously this device is absolutely amazing, I can control my lights with LIFX Globes, appliances with Wifi Smart Plugs, I can set an alarm to wake up to, I can select TV Shows and Movies on Stan and Netflix to play on my TV through my Chromecast that's hooked up to my TV, I can play Music through my Chromecast-Audio that's hooked up to my "Receiver" through it's speakers or the GH itself, I can add to my Shopping List (and more to come as extras are purchased) all with voice activation.

Read moreuser so I know when something is time consuming to setup, GH is a breeze, it basically does it all for you and you can also go to geek mode and configure even more things with other compatible devices, which will come later for now I'm liking the ease of which the setup and configuration is handled by the Google Home. It also tells me about "my day" with weather and news updates when asked for, I'm still learning all the "commands" but they are fairly natural and even obvious sometimes, I don't have Children, but I would imagine kids would love the Google Home. Yes I did have to buy extra devices, but I've bought them slowly and have kept my eyes peeled for "specials" and discounts as they come up, this has also helped me to learn to control each device as I've bought them rather than spending hundreds all at once and never mastering anything. Seriously just buy a Google Home, they're in Australia now, unlike Alexa at the moment...- 11 reviews

Great hardware, software needs improvement.
So I bought the Google Home this week and have been using it for 6 days. This is the Australian model.
You can checkout its features on their website or by reading other reviews, but I want to focus on its user-friendliness in this review in terms of what it does well and what still needs improvement.
To run the device you will need wireless internet, a device running Android, and the most recent Google and Google Home app.
One thing (of a few) to note is that unless you have a paid subscription to Youtube Red, Google Play or Spotif...
Read morey you will be unable to do the advertised command of "Hey Google play ______ song title". It does come with a 6 month subscription to Youtube Red but it will cost you after that. To trial what it would be like without that subscription, we only activated that today. First problem. The Australian model is meant to support multi-accounts where more than one person can link and be recognised by the device. Ours didn't - and it wasn't a user error, it was software. We spent over an hour with Google's online support team who couldn't resolve the issue even after factory resets, checking our devices capability and rebooting them as well. To be fair, they escalated this to their software engineers and I received a phone call from the US the next day to resolve the issue. The device now has installed and recognises when I speak and when my boyfriend speaks.- 24 reviews

Update Mar 8th 2018
Just got some nice WIFI globes x2 - "SMART BULB Wireless RGB LED WiFi Lamp Light" $21ea.
On my Android phone used the SMART LIFE app to connect to the bulbs via my WIFI. Then added Google Home as an authrorised user on the app. Not hard to do. Two lamps are now voice controlled.
So now I can say "Hey Google .... lights (or name each light) .... on / off / blue / pink / 'sunset' / 'romantic' / dim 50% etc" :)
Not essential but a bit of fun and I always wanted to test it out.

Finally a way to turn any house into a smart home
This is not a gimmick as many of us had assumed. I was also skeptical at first but after using it I couldn't live without it. By its own it won't do much other than playing music and telling weather reports and some jokes, but you'll start to see the potential after you buy other smart devices.
I would recommend devices that supports IFTTT (look it up at google, it allows different hardware and services to work together if they support this standard) for a start. To turn dumb devices (such as lights or anything that works with just power on ...
Read moreand power off, I recommend buying Belkin Wemo Switch/Insight. Hooking it up to your table lamp for example and you can just say 'Ok Google, turn on/off the lights' and it will do the trick. I don't agree with the 1 star review that it isn't ready in Australia yet. You just need to get the right tools, although that may mean spending more money but totally worth it! I also bought a smart LED lightbuib which works seamlessly with Google home, from www.lifx.com.au It is also a great kitchen helper like the other reviewer said. Being able to set timer using Google Home while both hands are dirty or busy is very useful when cooking. I also keep asking Google Home for the time as there's no clock around the kitchen XD Overall, very pleased with the product and the future of smart home is now.The Future is Now.
I was skeptical and apprehensive as it is expensive, but having recently discovered wifi speakers( +$150 for just one) this is an intelligent and helpful home companion that does so much more.
I have been waiting since the 80's for home automation and a voice controlled presence. Google Home finally does this.
It will play any music you can think of from youtube music, radio stations (from tunein or iheart radio).

Just got this today
Bought this product today, As a non techy person I was incredibly happy with how easy it was it was to set up. So far I have played music and been impressed by the sound quality given the size of the unit. I have also listened to local radio, asked about weather forecasts, listened to the news and played the trivia game. good fun.

Half-baked brain damaged product - use your Android Phone instead
The promise of Google Home is quite simple - it is the voice activated hub of all your smart devices ..... one caveat - if you are in the United States.
If you are in Australia, it's just a big version of your Google Assistant on your smartphone with some pretty lights.
What is the use of releasing a device in Australia that doesn't support the already supported third-party Assistant Apps?
Google's answer: Third party apps are synced with "Assistant Apps" on the Google Home app section. Now this "Assistant Apps" is launched in the US and today (August 3) it is launched in the UK.
A waste of $169. At least I bought it from a reputable store and not some grey market crap like from Kogan.
