Purchased because of it's size, as other freezers would not have fitted the size of the cuts in the draws. Freezer comes with three baskets so we can separate the smaller cuts from the large roasting pieces. It is a chest freezer so the cold air does not escape as if it was a vertical freezer. Compliments my vertical freezer as both have dual purposes. Easy clean surface. No comparison to vertical freezers for the price.

Purchased one of these 13 months ago, within 4 month ice was forming inside the door lid hinges and kept getting worse, called there customer service which is great as they are 24/7 so they send a tech out to arrange replacement. New one came, and yep same issues after a week, so then they arrange for another one, and within 4 days same problem, now Haier are telling me that they are going to arrange store credit. Their handling of the issue has been great, however shouldn't have to go thru this time wasting.

The choices for large capacity chest freezers of more than 500 litres are somewhat limited and they tend to be expensive. The Haier brand wasn't one that I was familiar with but despite some reservations, the two year warranty and $850 price tag was enough to swing the decision.
The unit is large (obviously) but it's a nice height for loading and unloading and the three baskets help to keep smaller items accessible while the large light provides enough illumination to see even into the depths of it.
The energy star rating isn't great at just...
Read more 2.5 (which translates to about $160 a year to run it) but when this is measured against the actual storage capacity it ended up with the 2nd lowest cost per litre of any that I looked at with a figure of 30 cents per litre per annum. The 'Super Freeze' function is a great feature that rapidly drops the temperature of newly added foods and although there is some icing it is not excessive. The only real downside after a year of ownership is that the unit can be noisy when it is operating - doesn't matter here as it is in the garage but might be an issue if it was in a kitchen or laundry. UPDATE 07/2021: After 8 years the compressor has failed - most likely because the seals weren't working very effectively and it was running constantly. 8 years is only about half the 'normal' life expectancy for a chest freezer and we've made the decision that we'll probably give this brand and other similar brands a miss in future.Purchased in at Appliances Online for $846.
