Ongoing repairs, very expensive to fix
We don’t recommend this cooktop due to ongoing repairs required and ridiculous cost of parts. Overall we Have been happy with function of gas burners apart from needing repairs for ongoing ignition faults (constant clicking). The induction has never worked with smaller pots and pans, has to be medium to big.
Ongoing call outs for faults 6 in 6 years. Now out of warranty we have a cost of $1200 to repair induction for a small (German) part to be replaced. Everyone ( technician and us) agrees it is just ridiculous. Alternative is simply not to use the induction ever again.
I would advise a different brand of stove for new buyers. It’s just not reliable enough and way too expensive to repair.

Induction unit failure
Cooktop was replaced 3 times because induction unit blew out. Told not to use boost function as it sill has a few bugs. Gas burners are great however don't try to scrub them to hard as heatproof paint comes straight off to reveal brass. Burners should be coated in vitro us enamel.

Induction is hopless
Agree with other reviews the induction is a total failure. The induction only works on cheap thin metal saucepans and not on many others made for induction. This unit was very pricy and I feel as I have been cheated as it does not perform as it should and even boiling water takes forever. Stay away from it.

Find out how Highland HP5CI N/L compares to other Gas Cooktops

Do not buy Highland - very disappointing after sales service
Highland promises a fantastic product.
In the 12 years I have owned mine, I have spent again what I have paid for the product in service technician's costs parts and labour. The wok burners have struggled to maintain the flames - switching off midway through cooking and then failing to ignite (for no reason - no boil over). I have had the technicians out numerous times. Have replaced both burners THREE TIMES. The latest was about 12 months ago. Within 2 months the left one broke down AGAIN. Called and called the technician out. He wanted me to...Read more
send him a video of what was happening. I couldn't do that and he refuses to answer my calls. We then have called another technician out. Came. Said it was a thermocouple problem and he didn't have the part. Came back with the part. Tried to open the unit by unscrewing the glass. RESULT - 3 giant cracks in the glass cooktop. And now the right burner doesn't keep its flame. So I have a completely useless product. And to replace it with another brand will not find something to fit the whole. Take my advice - AVOID HIGHLAND and just buy MIELE or another reliable brand. This is a lemon! One star is too generous. I'd give it a -5.

Good gas, shocking induction
Incredibly disappointing cooktop for the price. The gas burners are great - although the igniting flame clicks on and off constantly on two of the units when they're on anything but high. But the induction unit is absolutely useless. If it even manages to boil water, it takes around 20 minutes to do so. We've never been able to use it.
And no need to take my word for it. Highland agrees - after several visits to first adjust it and then replace the entire unit they gave up. They gave me a letter saying the technology was outdated and they w...Read more
ere waiting to upgrade it. Do not go near this unit - it's about the same price to get three of the stand alone Miele units - two gas and one induction. We have a Miele induction unit elsewhere and it is brilliant and the reason it was so obvious the Highland unit is a total dud.1 comment

Phenomenal!!
Unbelievably versatile cooktop!
The fact I can put my wok on any of 4 positions without an adapter is simple professional in my opinion.
The heat control is accurate and controlled.
The induction zone is quite simply amazing in its speed and accuracy.
There's not much that you cannot do at the same time with this product.
I love it :)

I am about to purchase one of these Gas cooktops but after reading the reviews I am very hesitant. Many reviews are saying the stoves are terrible and not worth the money. Can you give me any details?
Thank you Joanne

Joanne, in short I wouldn't buy one again but there are some pluses and minuses so it depends on your situation. We wanted mainly gas but an induction option as we like the speed and control and have a Miele all induction cooktop in a unit we stay in regularly.
The Miele unit is fantastic and still better than the latest version of the Highland for induction. But the Highland gas burners are the best I have come across - wok-like temperature on every burner but variable right down to very low temperatures. The new induction unit (now 5kw rather than 3kw) does the job but not quite like the Miele.
E&S kindly replaced our previous Highland cooktop with s new one when the more powerful induction unit came out (more than two years after initial purchase) and we're happier with the induction.
However both the old and new unit still have issues with the gas ignition coming on and off at times and we had some bubbling on the glass top with the old unit - too early to say if it will be an issue with the replacement, but you have to be vigilant to clean up.
They're nice looking units and the gas is fantastic and the induction now okay but given our issues I would go with three of the individual Miele units - two gas, one induction. A bit dearer but most likely much better overall. Other main difference is the Highland has more cooktop space - which is in part why we didn't pull it out and out in the Miele units - the hole in our stone benchtop was too big.
Hope that helps. I'm on 0412 952 030 if you want to ask anything else. Wayne.

Highland update
I've just had my original Highland cooktop replaced with a new unit - thanks so much to Rachel at E&S Trading in Geelong. More on that later.... Read more
The new unit has a 5kw induction unit and it works very well. Actually now boils water quite quickly. Combined with the excellent gas burners, this now makes the cooktop a very versatile unit - which is most clearly wasn't before. However, I still think I would opt for three separate Miele units. It's been two years since I installed the unit and I have waited patiently for the new model. E&S had promised they would replace the unit when the upgraded induction model arrived and they delivered on that promise. A friend had a similar experience and E&S did the same - although that was done immediately with a different brand to replace the cooktop. I have no association with E&S other than buying other products there (and similar products at other local suppliers), but I will certainly go there in the future for anything I need - can always get a good price and it's hard to imagine anyone else bettering this type of service.
