Just a adverage car
Good for me to zip around in however really small, and my Key is currently stuck in the ignition and i have to disconnect my battery to turn my car fully off and get my key out, if anyone has had the same problem please tell me what you did or where you went to get this fixed!
the sound system is great!
Lack of cup holders, and tends to lack power when going up hills, lots of problems with the electrics too!

Bad
Lacklustre small car which has had a litany of problems despite having low mileage. Airconditioner had to have major replacements - was told this is a common fault with Astras. Radiator completely replaced. Bits and pieces fell off it including the rear window wipers and drivers side rear vision mirror. I was ticked off too by the Holden dealers for having it serviced by Ultratune who did it for half the cost at the dealers. I was told my guarantee was only valid for the dealer who sold it to me. They actually quibbled about fixing the aircondi...Read more
tioner and replacing the radiator because the previous service had been done by Ultratune. All of this happened within three years of paying cash for it. Never again. 2007 model - small and economical with plenty of room in boot. Sudden take offs not matter how careful you are. Likewise breaking is sudden too. If someone ese drives itthey have to be warned what to expect. Aircondtioning to front seat passengers only and back seat travellers miss the benefits. It cost $27,150 new on the road and everything thing about it is cheap, cheap, cheap. One would have expected more for the price.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Neat, Compact and perfect as a second car !!
Recently bought a second hand Astra 2005 (private sale) Auto - Mileage - 88000. So far so good!! Handles well - really roomy boot and back seat area. We usually drive a 6 cylinder car but needed to downsize and save dollars on petrol. Well this has been achieved and parking a dream compared to a larger car. Also feels solid not tinny to drive. Nice model and has a classy look - very happy!!!
Look of it - and colour - silver

Good
I recommend Astra
It is compact
consumes less petrol
strong - quickly speeds up
has plenty of room for good in the back - You even would not put that big
you can put only 40 lt of petrol, very less when you live in Australia
once a month it does not recognize the key out or in, when you want to use electrical components (i.e. air condition or cd player or door is open warning etc.),

I only had it for two weeks (rental) & I'd never driven a vehicle that modern, so I don't know what people normally accept (CD system, air vents, door hinges). If it's an example of Holden, I will never buy or rent any of their vehicles and I wouldn't recommend people under 5'6" to use it if they value their spine unless they have very long legs! It might be okay if you only use it for short journeys, but not for constant use.
It was easy to handle & could take a decent load (I'm a courier). I loved the CD player, the volume dampener when you h...Read more

I have an Australian delivered Astra AH 2005 with a water leak prob filling up the aircon/heater fan & flowing all over the floor ( 3 weeks after warrenty expired & 1st problem with the car) . Found the problem was a faulty sealing rubber between the plastic plenium chamber cover & the windscreen causing any water running off the windscreen to run under the plenium chamber cover & directly into the heater / demister inlet vent !!! Great design guys!!!!!, Have placed a plastic bag over the inlet for a temp to keep the car dry & will get a price...Read more

I purchased a 2004 Holden Astra AH (used) October 2007 still under warranty. Started having electrical problems such as horn not working and stereo controls on steering wheel playing up not long after the purchase...
Come December 2008 when the car is no longer under warranty my first big repair bill with the car occured ($3000) gearbox. Wasnt prepared to fork out $6000+ for a new one so went second hand. After that experience I learned that If anymore problems to occur would be costly as the car is made in belgium!

This is my second Astra in three years. I bought my first one in Oct 06 and then traded it in for a new one in March 08. I have been happy with both of these and have found them reliable and comfortable to drive. I travel about 600km a week just getting to work and back, so I need a safe reliable car that will allow me to do this.
As this is our second car, we have always bought a hatch because it allows us the extra flexibility we need to carry large or bulky objects (such as bikes) that families often need to cart around. We were dis...Read more
appointed when we realised that the hatch in the latest model Astra does not have the option of making the floor completely flat. I will be due to upgrade my current car again at the end of this year, but will probably not get another Astra as there are many other good alternatives on the market and it is probably time for the Astra to undergo a revamp to keep it interesting when compared with its competitors. Easy to drive around town, good fuel economy, good basic safety features and range of inclusions Floor in back of hatch does not fold flat like in previous modelsSimilar opinion? I would never recommend this model to anyone. Within one month of owning the car the boot sensor was broken (it would not register that the boot was closed and made the beeping alarm continually). This took 2 attempts (and 2 different Holden dealers) to be repaired, the first attempt was not installed properly. Following this was the service that left my car dented and me car-less whilst that was being repaired (Holden did pay for that error). The car was 4 yrs old and had only done 60,000kms when the front wheel bearings had to be replaced. Th...Read more
e moral of this is, drive the crap out of your Holden to reach your 100,000kms in the warranty period! I liked it's shape and overall look I dislike that after only 60,000kms the front wheel bearings had to replaced at a cost of $3000, and because there is no temperature guide when it overheats you damage the engine (also ridiculously expensive to repair - still awaiting this bill somewhere between $3000-$6000).Similar opinion? Satisfied with car overall but have some serious concerns about Holden
My husband and I bought the Holden Astra (Automatic) in 2005 - brand new from a Holden dealer. Admittedly, we have had very few problems with the car since we bought it.
However... After buying the car we noticed on several occasions that the horn did not always work. We always had the car serviced at the Holden Service Centre, and every time we took the car to be serviced told them of our concerns about the horn. Every time they told us they had fixed the problem and yet it continued to only work intermittently.
Our car is now out of war...Read more
ranty. We received a letter from Holden about 6 months before our warranty ended, telling us that the service center in our area was closing and that our option was to take the car to another service center which is on the other side of the city. I contacted Holden about this and was told by one of their customer service agents that they had received a myriad of complaints from unsatisfied customers who had been put in a similar position. As such we have elected to go elsewhere for our service. When we took the car for the first service away from Holden, we mentioned the fact that we had intermittent problems with the horn. I was told that this is a common problem but that Holden would never admit to it. (Of course I am not able to investigate the truth of this but have read similar comments online from other Astra owners). The horn is now not working at all and I have had three occasions in the last few months where I have been unable to warn a car who is driving dangerously or about to reverse into my car. This is a basic safety issue and I am appalled that Holden has never done anything to rectify it. Has been fairly inexpensive to run. No major repairs in the 5 years of ownership Safety concerns re: horn not working4 comments

en dealers attention. Couldn't find anything wrong..then the dealer closed the Holden side of business(and my warranty ran out) - then I had to tow my car, as it wouldn't not start, over 120 kms to the nearest Holden dealer. It then cost me over $1500 (plus $220 tow fee) to fix the chip behind the steering wheel.I'm sure the horn & starting was linked as I have not had a problem with either since.Similar opinion? I love our Holden Astra
We bought our astra ( 5 speed manual) brand new in 2005. We have never had any major issues with it at all.
Servicing can be a bit over priced if using a holden dealer however other places are much cheaper!
Having three kids (not at the time when we purchased the car) I am surprised to find that I can fit 2 compact care seats + a child in the back (3 kids 7 and under). I love the boot space (except when you have two car seats this limits what you can put in the boot.
I love how zippy our astra is and it's so easy to get into any car...Read more
space no matter how tight a squeeze it may be. The only thing I don't like is that the black trim has turned grey and the headlights have turned a funny almost scratched look. Reliable, zippy, no major problems at all! Services can be expesive through a holden dealer, black trim has turned grey.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Alright
Good little car to have in the city. I have been happy with fuel consumption, handling, etc. Plus it is quite roomy inside for such a compact vehicle. Getting it serviced at the holden dealership is, of course, not the best idea. Rediculously expensive and two weeks later there were a lot of issues with the 'new' battery'. I had it looked at by a local mechanic and it seems to be fine now.
fuel effecient, compact, good handling
Servicing problems

First Impressions
I just purchased a 2007 model built 2006. First impressions I like it. Getting on with day to day use some key design flaws stand out. Little space to put your gadgets, stuff that we carry around today makes it very user unfriendly. A small receptacle near the gear stick doesn't hold anything. Accelerate slowly off the mark and the item placed here is now on the floor. Where to put your mobile? Glove box sound appealing?
The climate control is similarly poorly thought out. Non standard designations mean learning what each thing does and repres...Read more

Having managed fleets for many years I can say the Holden Astra has to be the most unreliable car we have had, no other car in the mid-ranged field has had so many electrical problems and breakdowns, I would not recommend this car for these points. However if you are still interested in what I have to say Holden fixed all the issues under warranty and never once ripped me off, the services were I felt expensive, but now the Astra is no longer imported into Australia long live the Cruze which will be made in Australia in 2011
Firm ride, sharp handling
Not reliable, expensive to service

The Holden Astra is a small sized car and only suitable for a couple of people in the front and small people in the back. There isn't all that much rear leg room nor is there all that much space in the boot. The car is quite well styled and peforms quite well. It stays on the road quite well. The seats are bucket type and can be a bit uncomfortable if you are sitting down for an extended period of time. Overall this is quite a reasonable vehicle to get around in.
Good fuel consumption and zippy car.
Uncomfortable seats.

i have a 2007 CDX astra, i have never had it serviced at a holden, just a good old fashioned mechanic and i have never had a problem.
well i love my little astra. i have had it for 2 years and i love most things about it. I find the style and design is very eyecatching. Mine is red and the paint work is very goo quality, i have had a few marks against poles and the paint wrk is easily fixed. The colour has hardly faided. I love the small computer, the CD player is awesome and the seats in the back have enough leg room
electrical small faults, fog light stopped working, glove box light

Awesome! I love it.. Great buy great price! Stylish, modern and comfortable.
Repairs are a little expensive to fix but over all, its a great little car.
Excellent little car. Ive had mine for 2 years now. Zippy little thing, great look and attractive interior.
Air con stopped working after a year.. was a little expensive to fix. Can be heavy on fuel for such a little car.

Having read some reviews on here about the Astra I purchased one in April 2010. It had 47000 klms on the clock with all services up to date. The car won me over as soon as I test drove it before purchasing it. Very smooth and quiet on the road with a "big car" feel. I have done 20000 klms in 6 months and have loved it. I do a majority of highway driving on the M1 on the Gold Coast and consistently achieve 690 - 710 kms per tank of fuel. I have used regular and premium unleaded and personally prefer the 95 RON Premium as the car has a little mor...Read more
e get up and go. This is with the air con on too! The only issue I have had is the air-con compressor recently failed costing me $1200 to replace (labour inclusive) This was no surprise as it was frequently mentioned in other reviews on here. It is obviously a weak point in the vehicle. All up I really love owning this car. It is surprisingly roomy with great head and leg room in the front and rear. Im 6'2 and have plenty of headroom. I would recommend this car to someone looking for a small car that feels solid and very safe on the road. 80 000 kilometres replacement. This car is a pleasure to drive. I do approximately 600 k's a week and it does it with no fuss. To save money I have been doing my own oil/filter changes using Penrite HPR 10 oil. The car is much smoother and revs more freely with this oil. Its been a great car for my day to day commute to work and back :)What year is this Astra?

Not a bad car
Its not too bad. Good for a small car as its a bit bigger and has a bit more detail. Looking forward to a new car though. Previous owner had timing replaced before i bought it, so i hope thats true. Indicators can get annoying. Head light covers have gone cloudy from sun damage i think.
Good quality for price, looks good, ok to drive, cheap insurance and rego and fuel
No cup holders, seat uncomfortable, fuel gauge out - ran out of fuel twice when it said i still had fuel left, interior light came on one day and wouldnt turn off had to take bulbs out! if i have a bag on the front seat the no seatbelt alarm will go off, theres an awfiul engine rattle im scard about, powerless, head lights are dull.

Requires the ignition barrel to be replaced as far as I know. Just one of the common faults.
