Commodore VZ (2004-2006)

Hey my name is Dallas and I'm looking to buy a 2004 Holden commodore vz 6 speed manual off my friend for a first car, the odometer reads 225,000km. It needs 2 new front seats and 2 new tires, the rego runs out next month and apparently if I don't re register it before it runs out it will cost me over $1000, so I Just wondering what price you would put on it. He is asking me $5000 for it, I personally think that is to much. Just asking a professionals advice cause I'm not car smart at all. Help me please. Send what you think please. Cheers

Hi Dallas, I'm no professional, but what I do in these situations is go to Carsales.com and other sales sites like Gumtree and see what is being asked for similar cars in similar condition. You can also do a search in your favourite search engine for similar cars and see what comes up. Two new tyres and 2 new seats won't be cheap. If you live in a state that requires a roadworthy before a car can change hands I doubt it will pass by the sound of it. Being a 6 speed manual it may have been thrashed too, so I would want an independent mechanical check. I'm guessing you can do better (It is a buyer's market!)

It needs 2 new tyres you say / more like it needs 4 new tyres plus one spare though make sure you have the shop fitting, aligning and balancing though try to spend at least 200 to 250 dollars on each tyre or if you can afford to spend 600 dollars plus you could get michelen or pirelli tyres

Refer to your owners manual. I'm lucky enough that mine changes itself

Turn the radio on. (the arial should go up). Hold the clock button down until it goes into clock mode. Use the search buttons etc to change hours and minutes,
then press the clock button.
