Are there any known issues to look out for in a 2005 Holden SVZ ute. The one my son is looking at is $6000, but has issues with the electrics blowing fuses which the owner said he will get fixed. To me it smells of problems creeping in and may be plagued with issues. Help, before he goes ahead with the purchase. I can't seem to get commonsense into the 18 y/o.

I would recommend to have the vehicle towed to another mechanical repairs and servicing workshop though, it seems like need another engine from your description which may be that better off buying another better car.

Had an issue with abs fault, disconnected my battery for 5 mins.
After re connecte battery I've lost all dash displays and car won't start.
Help!!
1 answer
This seems like it's most likely a fault within the electrics so first I would recommend to buy and fit a new battery and if that doesn't work then possibly it's time to have your vehicle towed to a holden australia workshop or perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help and the auto electrician is usually cheaper as well.

Sorry can't help. I never had any problems with the VZ I had. I suspect it could be a computer problem. In my 2006 VE the AC stopped working. I phoned the agent and he said pull out #7 fuse and see if resetting helps. It did. It did it once more but never again after that. A long straw and I don't know which fuse you would need to pull out.

The VT- VZ had a design flaw with the clock spring. This is likely the cause, but only a Mechanic/ Dealer can tell you what exactly is going on.

when changing the oil I went to undo oil filter nut and it snapped what do I do I have a spare but don't know how to get it removed?
1 answer
This is a very common problem in VZ and VE alloytec engines. I have been changing my VE's filters without any problems. The trick is to let the engine completely cool down and use a sock with long bar. Then use a jerking force to loosen the cap and remove it. I would suggest to use a torque wrench and tighten 25nm or rule of thumb (slight hand tight). Now regarding your broken nut. i can suggest a few things but not sure if this will work.
1) You can try with cat type filter strap
2) You can try with the big plier wrench
3)If the above tools slips (try putting a microfibre cloth on top of the cap and then attach the tool) remember to work with a cool engine.
4)Check this video on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX748g-mwrY
5) if you have a grinder, grind a corner of it slightly so you can fit a philips screw and then slightly hit it with a hammer(anti clock wise)
6) Consult with a mechanic
7) You may have to change the complete housing
Hope this helps

Can I run my 05 vz sv6 without a thermostat?
1 answer
You can, However it is not recommended. Thermostats are there to help the engine reach operating temperature faster for reduced engine wear and emissions. Running the engine without a thermostat will result in prolonged engine warmup times.
