If you don't really want the hassle and fuel prices of the V8 SS, then I would definitely recommend the SV6. It accelerates very nicely when called upon, and with smooth driving I managed a very respectable 8.0litres per 100km consistantly in mixed city/country trips. The interior is much better looking than the VE, although it is a little tired having been used in the VY, but I never found that an issue. The seating and legroom I found very comfortable with controls easy to access and use, and there was more than enough boot space. The onl...Read more
y reason I got rid of this car was to upgrade to a VZ Clubsport! For Holden Commodore 2004 - 2006 SV6. Absolutely everything. I received great service at a reasonable price, the look of the car still holds its own, the power is terrific and there was more than enough room for tall people! Maybe the fact that the transmission failed (I had a 6spd manual) and needed replacement under warranty - but hey, I didn't have to pay for it!1 comment

Build quality is terrible
First my transmission start to clunk while it was on warranty, since its not a major fault no repairs done.
After warranty expire here it all comes, front suspension bushes fell apart because they were made from cheap rubber and specifically designed to last only 3 years. for $1000 replaced to all Nolathane. Cooling pump failed, replaced $500. Driver seat broken, replaced under warranty. Steering rack has a play in it, delater quoted $800, I did not do this one and still drive with it. Exhaust vibration on certain RPM.

Vz SS Commodore
This has beean a reliable safe family car.
The Boot swallows a double pram and has plenty of room for extras
Three child restraint points that you can actualy use without loosing all your cargo space
Has been verry cheap to service and run ( compared to our previous car a 2006 Vw Golf)
Drives well is a little bit too firm in the suspension but handles well
We have averaged 10.4 litre per 100ks (usually around 8.5 on a trip) but you do notice it if you do a trip to Brisbane and get stuck in traffic jumps up on the tripmeter to 14.5 l/100 re...Read more

2005 VZ Commodore Lumina
The Commodore Lumina is a nice package with cruise, fogs, 6 airbags, FE2 suspension on 17" rims etc...
I bought this car second hand at 110000kms, and in 6 months I've covered just over 35,000kms.
Whether in an urban environment, or as in my case rural, it's well suited for the tasks required.
It is a comfortable car on long hauls, interior noise levels are low, the air conditioning is a gem, and with a 75 litre tank gets you a good distance with room to spare. The gauges in the dash are clear and easy to read without the problems associated...Read more

I was a Holden lover. Bought a 2005 Equipe brand new in July 2005. To this date I have only done 32,500Km. The car us under-used for its age. The rear axle bearings started becoming noisy about two years ago. One Holden dealer in Fremantle (last year) said they couldn't hear the noise. So, this year I went to a different Holden dealer as my warranty was going to expire. They said that there was definitely a 'whoop, whoop, whoop" noise coming from the rear. Luckily I had an extended (5 years) warranty for the drive train and I have just had the ...Read more
rear seals and bearing replaced on the rear stub axles. My love affair with Holden has ended. Too many recalls for side airbags. Also, the power steering connecting hoses come loose as the metal pipes do not have bulges on them to facilitate the secure clamping of flexible connecting hoses. If you don't constantly tighten these clamps you get leaks and mine was leaking slightly then suddenly leaked more and drained my power steering pump. The Holden dealer says it is a common problem and the clamps need to be tightened frequently. Holden have been making cars long enough now to get things right. My next car will be a Toyota. My second car is a Toyota Avalon and although it may be dull and boring for some, it is a comfortable, quiet, reliable car to drive. Holden need to go to Japan to learn quality control and reliability. Performance, handling. Like all Holdens - a driver's car. Nice safety features for females - headlights staying on for a set amount of time, headlights on on approach, single door unlocking, automatic door locking. Build quality. Too many design faults.1 comment

Best Car I have ever Owned!!
I "love" My 2005 VZ Holden Commodore Executive Sedan!! From the moment I laid eyes on my VZ I fell in love and had to have it! My VZ is my First Holden I have ever owned and I'm extremely impressed. My VZ is above and beyond reliable and having the ability to take off on a road trip when ever the time becomes available without a worry in the world is a great feeling. The beautiful glossy mirror like thick high quality paint and the sleek sporty clean line unique look of my VZ makes it stand out from the rest and for such a large comfortable car...Read more
the fuel economy is excellent! The Interior of my VZ is very classy, very practical and sporty which matches the exterior perfectly. The sound expelled by the Blaupunkt stereo is extremely high quality and the green illumination of the interior dials look spectacular at night! The engine is practically silent and the overall ride quality is unmatched by any other car I have ever owned and or travelled in. My VZ is astonishing to drive and own and Im cant express how proud I am to say I own such an amazing car!! and I personally think that the VE has nothing on my VZ. I love my VZ and I think that if your looking for a great looking reliable economical car get yourself a VZ of your own and you can't go wrong! Reliability, Beautiful sleek unique sporty Looks, Fuel Economy, Classy Interior, Quiet Engine Love everything about my VZ7 comments

gine in the Toyota will run forever the rest of the car will fall to pieces guaranteed, and what's the point in that? With a Holden it looks great and you feel good driving it and you don't get that satisfaction in a boring, bland and over priced Jap car! My Car dosent have so much as a leak, rattle or clunk its still rock solid and drives as well as it did when I bought it brand new so I have to disagree! The quality of the VZ is much higher then that of the VE and I would never buy one just based on its ugly hard cheap plastic interior that looks similar quality to that of a Toyota. Whilst I'm disappointed in Holdens re-sale value and not looking to get another car anytime soon, Holden will be the first car yard I visit! Good luck with your Jap car and when the interior starts falling apart and the window seals start falling off, all I can say is I told you so!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

SV8 250kw 6spd manual. this thing is an absolute weapon and looks the part too. it sounds mean and it looks mean, but best of all the thing isn't nearly out of breath at 220km/h at only 3500 rpm. im in love. best $18000 ever spent
comfortable reliable good looking and has the abibilty to make fords look foolish. direct steering and confident braking
poor fuel economy rarely below 20L/100km round town. about 12-14 on highways

Bad
Thought it would be a better car for the money, paint and interior both low rent and the cost of repairs consistently amazes me. The running costs around town are very ordinary but you can get good fuel economy on the open road on Premium unleaded.
For Holden Commodore 2004 - 2006 Acclaim Wagon.
torque motor, gets going in the first 3000 revs. big back end for lots of gear
many mechanical issues particularly after 100,000 kms, costly repairs for such a "popular motor car" quality of interior not standing up to kids. constant front suspension rubber joints wearing out and creating an annoying cluncking noice, cost 300 to repair and will last 15,000km before starting again

i love how this car is smooth on the road, and we can all travel together as a family because of the option to add the dickie seats in the back. I would recommend this car to families with young children ... you can still collapse the back dickie seats to use for transport too ... and the middle seats fold right down as well ... the space in this wagon is awesome ... definitely the best car I would say ...

we have 5 young boys, so we had the dickie seats installed at the back. Such a good economical car and it caters for our family

This is my second consecutive Commodore on 3 year leases - just about to pass this one back. Overall it's been good but for what was effectively a $40,000 car (I paid full price + auto + air) I expect a tighter package and I suspect the new Omega delivers that. 2nd hand price: BARGAIN! I keep a pram in there all the time and can still fit all my shopping in there, parts and added extra's are easy to get and dont cost a fortune

I had the missfortune of driving the new "sportswagon" from holden recently for a photo shoot. This car is about what I expect from a Chinese manufacturer not from Holden. The drivers door opened 4 times during the test and the stability control system was lethargic in operation to say the least. The general fit and finnish of the car was of poor quality and not what you would expect from a car of this price.

When I test drove it, it just felt so good, felt like I was driving a small car, so effortless, so comfy, so quiet. My dog loves it, I have the back seats down most of the time, The amount of stuff I can fit in is amazing, beats my old falcon wagon by miles.(plus I haven't had to replace the door handles like the falcon)If anything ever happened to my wagon, I would have no hesitation going out and getting another. DO yourself a favour, get one!

I love my wagon. It fits everything in the boot nicely, Ive had 2 prams and luggage in there easly. The car is good with petrol when you drive long distances, easily making 800 km, but if you drive around town it chews through the petrol quickly. I really like the cargo barrier as well, it saves anything from flying through if i have to stop suddenly. I really cant complain about this car, if anything needs to be fixed it can be done straight away because its not imported. Will always buy Holdens.
For Holden Commodore 2004 - 2006 Acclaim Wagon.
Well known manufactuer. Great boot space. Nice and spacious inside the car.
Can be a bit expensive on petrol if your driving short distances or have a lead foot.

Soon after I got my driving license, my dad bought me a 2006 Commodore VZ Acclaim. The car is a thrill to drive! It is simply unique! I love the aggressive exterior body-styling, and the rather sport-inspired interior!
The car drives wonderfully! For a big car, it really handles very well; in fact, it doesn't feel like driving a big car at all! The steering is precise and the throttle is responsive.
As long as the car has a good service history, go for it! The only problem you may experience is some faulty sensors, which shows up when the...Read more
car's dashboard alarm sounds. Not to worry ;) Just take it to the agent, and update the software. Done! Another feature which you may find a bit annoying: When the AC is switched on, all the fans turn on (this includes the engine fan, rather noisy when idling the engine.) I am a motoring enthusiast, I've loved cars ever since I was a kid. I have to say, the Commodore has won it's way to my heart. I love the car :)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

After owning the Executive for quite some time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even in the Executive trim, there are some small features that you start taking for granted and feel disappointment when other cars you drive don't have them. Some of these features are the ignition - rather than holding the key in the ON position until it kicks over, you simply turn it from accessories so it engages ON and let it go - it kicks over itself. Other small features are the options for auto-headlamp changes, 2hr constant drive 'rest reminder' and other various ...Read more
computer changes. On the road, it feels solid and safe and has the power when you need it. The acceleration can take some getting used to if you've come from a car with conventional throttle, as the electronic throttle determines the acceleration expected via a computer, not a pulley or spring, therefore isn't instantly responsive. The handling is above average, although steering is quite heavy and needs some getting used to also. Once this is overcome, you begin to feel the heavier steering is better than feeling like you're driving a speedboat. The brakes are firm enough, but could have been better from factory as slowing from a high speed can require a much firmer hold. The body roll is far better than that of the rival Falcon (BA/BF series). Although I never experienced towing with this car, a Falcon may be a better option for this (this has been the case for a number of years based on a number of chassis/suspension/engine factors). The VZ brought in the AlloyTec engines - a much better engine than the previous EcoTec range (Keep in mind, the VY Executive has the EcoTec engine and it was only in the updated VZ that AlloyTec was introduced). Vision is good from almost all points and I never came across any major blind spots - seating positions are versatile with electric height adjust (driver only). The fuel consumption isn't a plus, being such a heavy Commodore; however, highway consumption is quite good, as expected. Safety is in line with dual airbags and ABS. The dash finish appears to 'peel' or scratch off easily and be gentle with the steering wheel audio controls as these buttons aren't as tough as one would assume and tend to snap off. The interior trim is nice with the centre folding down with two cup holders and a table. Keep in mind, this is another production car failing 60/40 split seats which is disappointing. Some models can be found with power windows all-round, but most are front only, which kids will be disappointed with. A few things to look out for when buying is service history - these Commodores are controlled by several computers and don't be fooled, this model was in fact Holden's 'beta VE' so without a good service history, you may encounter costly problems. If you plan on removing the standard head unit (CD player) and installing an aftermarket one, be warned you will lose some options on the dash (one includes the option to have a horn chirp on lock/unlock). Overall, a great car to drive and a good performer with a good standard of safety. Looks excellent if lowered on a set of 20" wheels, but ride comfort is dramatically reduced. Final word: if the budget allows for it, move to a 2005/6 model. Comfortable, handles well, solid build and feel, power Fuel consumption, interior finish (not incl. trim, but the dash, buttons etc)1 comment

1 answer
Hi Mick, I read that you're having problems with your Holden Commodore VZ particularly with the "low idle, stall" which could likely be a computer problem (mix up) after you've "changed the battery", (I'm wondering if your vehicle is coded with a 4 digit number? and is the main centre screen on dash showing any message asking for the code?) Or it could be your computer may need to be remapped (tune) and if you've tried that and it hasn't worked, maybe your car needs to "relearn the idle"and best advice is to take it to a trusted Holden dealer.

Failed transmission and you gave it a 5 star?
This is like a huge problem and it can occur again at any time. I would like to see if the transmission fails again when you are out of warranty, then how many stars would you give it?
