Great mower, powerful!
Purchased this mower 6 months back, due to having a gutless old mower and needed something with more power and easy to start. This mower has the self propulsion which is awesome especially on the hills at our property the mulching feature is just amazing, no need to empty your clippings again! Absolute joy to mow the lawn now, never thought I'd say so!
Only thing there is an issue with, if you stop it soon after you start it, it seems to flood and will take at least 4 minutes to restart, this may been just a tuning issue however, I should take it back to the dealer.
Highly recommend!

Great mower
I am very happy with the Honda HRU19 mower, it starts first time & is easy for a female to use, a very powerful & reliable mower especially on large lawn areas, cut at a nice even level, & I find that it is ok in the damp weather, I have had no problems at all

Very reliable
This would have to be the best mower money can buy. I wasn't keen on handing over so much money at first, but it seems to be money well spent so far. Starts first time very easily and does a very good job. Might cost twice as much as a cheap mower but should last twice as long.

NEVER LETS ME DOWN
We have an accommodation business so having a lawn mower which is easy to use for me (female), reliable and does a great job are imperative. My Honda always starts first time and every time. Never lets me down and our lawns are those to be proud. Bit more expensive than other brands but well worth the money.

Not bad, but a few flaws
After owning a number of cheaper mowers over the years, I was after something that was a quality product since we have a larger yard to mow now. So I went to a specialist Honda dealer and spent what these days is big bucks for a mower. I have found that it isn't really worth it. The good part - it starts first time every time. The bad part - the catcher clogs up and the dealer had to install another two blades and increase the revs to fix it. Also, there is a piece of metal sticking out from the handle (safety grip) which constantly hits a...Read more
nd bruises my legs. In summary, the engine is great quality but the rest of the mower (catcher, shute, handle) is poor quality. If I had my time again, I'd just get a less expensive mower from Bunnings. Disappointing that the Honda quality isn't there any more.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love this mower. It works a treat!
I got an extra two blades attached to my mower when I purchased it. It starts without much effort and every time. I love the catcher and how it operates. The mower is heavy when turning, but it cuts really well. My old mower had an adjustable choke, but this one is either on or off so when you let go of the handle it just stops. Love my Honda Mower.

Rubbish mower great engine
Bought a Honda lawn mower two weeks ago due to having Honda brushcutter and blower which are excellent. Well I have never been so disappointed with a mower or the shop that sold it (mower place capalaba but stay clear of franschises). Spent $700 on this mower and should of just bought a victa from bunnings as the one I was using to previously was so much better.
After reading reviews about grass clogging issues I went to 'the mower place' in capalaba to get their opinion. My dad has been dealing with them for a while so I thought they were ...Read more
trustworthy. He advises the grass clogging issue in the Hondas only happen in wet grass. Well it's been a heat wave in Brisbane with no rain for two weeks. Mowed twice and both time the catcher schute clogs up. Went back to mower shop and saw the same salesman. The only support he could offer was spray WD40 down the schute. I just spent $700 on a mower that is meant to work, not lubricate the schute everytime I mow! I wasn't really happy with this answer and he just said he only sells them and repairs them. I would of thought they would have a rep from Honda that could be contacted when a customer Needs support. It's obviously a common problem as its all over this page. All I can suggest is stay away from these Honda mowers and 'the mower shop' so you don't get burnt like me. I'll be taking the problem up with Honda to try and get a solution.Similar opinion? Not explained and not practical for everyday use
Hi, I purchased a Honda HRU19K1 (mbau-1031182) last Saturday morning 2/7/2016 from a dealer in QLD.
I had a conversation with the sales person and asked for a mower which was push style with a Honda Motor or a Honda. He pointed me to this mower and I asked him what the lever on the handle was. He told me it was a break. I thought this was a good idea.
Once at home I was keen to try it out. I had a look through the owners manual to check how to start the mower and could not follow the instructions . Chapter 6 only mentioned that when the dr...Read more

Some 6 years ago I purchased a new buffalo after the old one finally packed it in after getting a good 20 years out of it. I've just returned it to the local dealer after experiencing some serious issues - not sure if I'll be a honda person any more!

Extremely Disappointed
Having had the old HRU194 for 20 years in great working order I was excited to upgrade/downgrade to the new hru19k1. Well having spent one summer with it I could not be more disappointed. This would be a fantastic mower to idle on a concrete slab and that's about it. Unless I can find the time to mow every third day (and I might ad I'm mowing couch so growth is not substantial) the chute system is incapable of performing the task that we pay good money for it do. It blocks up repeatedly if the lawn is the slightest bit dewy with major feed issu...Read more
es. I would think it a wise move to get back to the idle control too as the mower only really tries to work after it's too late and a blockage has begun. You have to ask whether or not anybody tried these machines before they hit the shelf or just assumed the name would get them by. As a loyal person I will recommend anyone who asks not to spend their hard earned on such an incompetent piece of scrap.1 comment

I relation to the clogging issue, you could try the below remedies: * Ensure that the underside of the deck is cleaned after usage to prevent build up of grass. * The blades are not worn or damaged. * If additional blades have been fitted that they are the correct genuine Honda blades. Mowers have 2 blades as standard, if additional "high lift" blades have been fitted this will compound the issue. * If cutting long grass or wet grass the cutting height should be increased. Optimal collection will occur on height setting 5 and above in these conditions. * Releasing the blade brake will result in the air flow stopping, grass will then sit in the discharge chute and will need to manually cleared. Establish when the bag is full during normal usage as the new models collect more grass and will require to be emptied more frequently. * Ask the dealer to check the RPM to ensure it is within specification Many thanks, SarahSimilar opinion? Dont bother keep looking
I purchased this mower after my old 2 stoke Victa Mustang became too smokey to use. I have been very disappointed with this mower as it doesnt feed the grass into the catcher very well. If the grass is slightly damp the grass blocks up the shute to the catcher. There is an obvious desigh flaw with this mower. This aside the mower is heavy to push and has no throttle control. This mower should be recalled. I will be taking it backto Ongamac in Lismore and they can sort out the refund with Honda. Will never buy Honda mower again.

Mulch chute poor design
After owning a Honda mower for 8 years and had been very happy, I decided to buy a Honda HRU19 ALLOY CHASSIS as my old mower rusted out.
The grass only has to be slightly damp I'm consonantly having to put my hand in the chute and pull the grass out. I will never buy a Honda again nor would I recommend. Very disappointed!

Amazing Honda Equipment
Well after researching mowers for months I finally purchased the Honda HRU19K1 mower as well as the Honda HHB25 blower today.
The lawn did actually need a mow so I was able to use my new equipment straight away.
Well all I can say is among amazing amazing.
My old mower was a Victor Lawnkeeper with the V40 engine with only 2 blades. I bought it 7 years ago an only serviced it once. Still starts first time but man it just did not cut my grass well at all.
The extra money I paid today was absolutely worth it.

I hate it, it always gets clogged!
I agree with all the disaffected Honda customers who have expressed their frustration and disappointment with this terrible mower. I live in Northern NSW and the grass grows quickly with a lot of kikuyu. No, the Honda will not cut long or wet grass, but it also won't cut luscious, juicy grass without getting clogged either, no matter how dry it is, and you certainly cannot pull it backwards without it immediately getting clogged. An old Victa can do all these things.
I will definitely take legal action against Honda if ever I injure myself try...Read more

t almost half the price) even when the grass is short and dry the chute will clog. The mower will not blow the clogged cuttings through leaving sticking your hand down the chute as the only method of clearing the blockage. Any positive aspects of this mower have all been negated by flawed engineering. Honda should own-up to this and get it resolved.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I Wish I Had Read These Reviews Before Buying The Honda HRU19 Buck - Bucking Terrible
I love mowing and like to see a well maintained lawn. We have a biggish lawn - mostly just grass, but also lawn under trees which shed these leaves and seeds. I have always had a cheap hardware store mower but thought I'd invest in a really good mower - everyone from my mother to the local vet advised on buying a Honda (they obviously have an older model).
I brought home my new mower excitedly and mowed for about 10 minutes before it started surging. Emptied the catcher and started again, didn't start for at least an hour. Started surging ag...Read more
ain straight away. Took it back to the retail Honda dealer who agreed to test it out himself. He found the same issue and called Honda - "oh yeah, we know there is a design fault, just empty it more often." They sent a different chute/big bag catcher to try out. I just have and although it improved slightly (after lifting the height adjuster and emptying every couple of minutes), the motor started surging again. Stopped, couldn't start again. Tried it without the bag, no difference. Still surging. I give up - the thing is not fit for purpose. You pay good money ($799) for what you think will be a great mower, and expect that it will mow the lawn - wrong. I want my money back Honda - not the dealer, who are great local people trying to give good customer service, but Honda! This mower is ridiculous and does not do the good it is meant to do. I will also be going down the office of fair trading road if they don't refund the money.1 comment

My name is Paula and I work in the marketing department at Honda Power Equipment. When mowing your lawn, prior to engaging the blade brake (letting go of the bar) pull the lawnmower back a foot, by doing this you will clear the underside of the mower of any grass build up around the cutting chute. Additionally, do not over fill the grass catcher. If you overfill the grass catcher some grass may get caught in the cutting chute. Also washing your grass catcher can improve the air flow. If you have any concerns about the function of your mower, ie. surging, please contact your local Honda Dealer to have your unit inspected. The Biggest Lemon HRU19
Bought my original HRU19 at Hervey Bay around ten years back, what a great piece of engineering, thought it was about time to update it sold it on Gum-tree, and proudly walked into my local mower shop and was treated fairly well as I spoke praise for the old mower. Unfortunately if you are mowing damp/wet grass then the chute may clog and will need to be manually emptied. The Buffalo Buck was not designed to cut excessively long grass or damp/wet grass; it is designed to be part of a well maintained garden regime. If mowing longer grass you must mow twice, first at a higher setting and then at a lower setting. You should also empty the catcher before the unit clogs, otherwise it can cause the unit to become overfilled and may clog. With regard to the production, the units are actually assembled in Australia, keeping jobs in Australia and assisting to support our economy. If you would like to discuss this matter further please contact [email protected]. 9 for around fifteen years my lawns have renown in my area and are blue/green couch mixture never any longer than cut position number four. The old HRU19 just simply never clogged, the new chute is just to narrow, and in my opinion a really bad design fault moving away from the full mouthed chute. The sales were told at the time of purchase the type of lawn (not grass) I mow. Paint
I find with Most Honda products that paint is only on surfaces that you can see.
If you can not see it then its a very thin layer of paint that i have found ends up rusting.
I have the HRU196K1 that is 8 months old.
The handle is rusting under the paint plus paint is falling off the base.
Working with powder coating i would say very little prep is done before painting
A whip blast would help the paint problem on the base and a good
pre-treatment on the paint line.

Great Mower but you pay for the Honda Motor compared to others
Pretty good Motor, smooth, bit heavy but thats due to the very reliable and sturdy rustproof deck. I didn't understand it at first but once you start *bumping* into things such as trees and stumps you realise it doesn't dent and rust like other cheap ones from bunnings. Smooth, handy, don't really like the soft catcher but does its job definitely. Reliable with plenty of support and service centres. Lost one of my tightening triangle handles and easily replaced at the many honda centres around. Hope it lasts 2x as long as you do pay 2x as much as a basic lawnmower

adam hassanasked
how do I change the oil?
1 answer
1.Turn fuel valve off. Drain oil while engine is warm.
2. Wipe oil filler area clean and remove cap.
3. Place container next to mower to catch used oil. Tilt mower on its right side. Oil spout on bottom fuel tank up top. Used oil drains from the filler neck. Drain all.
4. Fill with recommended oil. Do not overfill. Engine oil capacity 0.65 litre for GXV160 and 0.55litre for GSV190/GCV160
5. After changing oil and before starting check oil level with dip stick. Upper level of dip stick is good. Screw in dip stick.
6. Sae 10w- 30 4 stroke oil. Always check the API service label on the oil container to be sure it includes the letters SG or higher ( or equivalent)
