My trimmer does not start I have changed the spark plug

Not sure what your question is.... are you looking for what next steps? If it is new, I would suggest taking it back to where you bought it, if it is older, I would suggest taking it to a mower shop for a service. Just a few trouble-shooting ideas: If it has sat in the garage for a long time, add some fresh petrol (new from the petrol station, not more old fuel, as it can go "bad"), make sure the on/off switch is set to On, make sure you have primed a few times, and the choke lever is set correctly. Other than that, if those ideas don't work, get it serviced.

The head fell off when I bumped it for extra line. after replacing it does not rotate now?
1 answer
Yes I had the same problem mine fell off and rolled down the street. I went to Bunnings and bought a universal head that has three fixed pieces of line that you replace when they wear out. The Honda heads are worthless and had I known how bad they were I would not have bought it in the first place.

Have had my UMS425U serviced some months ago as it would not start. It tested OK as I picked up from the repairer. But now it just stops and won't start after about about a few minutes run, no matter what. It starts and runs OK again after the engine cools down abit (about 10 mins), until the next few minutes. I had it serviced at beginning of autumn so had not been using much. Now it's passed the 3 month repair warranty (lesson learned here)
Took to another repairer (somehow I did not trust the first one) and was advised to buy a new one as it's not worth getting another service as a new UMS425U is now only $299. Last service costed $160.
I have been thinking before I rush to get a new one - what if there is a cheaper solution because the machine still works fine. I googled and some suggest to replace the petrol cap as it needs to let air into the tank. A cap is $30 (incl postage)
Anyone had same issue can share your experience? Or know a solution?
Thanks in advance.

My Honda ums425u line trimmer will start and idle with the choke on, but can not be revved up and will not run once the choke is off. Any help?

Sorry. My technical knowledge of the engine is limited. I suggest you have a small engine mechanic take a look to determine the problem. It does sound as if something is amiss with the carburettor, something that needs an experienced technician.
Best of luck.
Had the same problem, the tip to check the petrol is on the right tack. The trimmer has a felt filter and gets clogged up. Clean or replace and should run again like mine.

Please help, my unit is sitting for at least 4-6 months and now I cannot get the fuel pumped up into the primer, unit won't start.
1 answer
Line may be blocked or primer may have slight hole. Also possibly needs new fuel filter. Only way to fix is replace defective part. Any local authorised repairer can do. Sorry no easy fix.

I sent my Honda UMS425U lawn trimmer to the local council for a service (no Honda dealers within 500klm or other option within 250klms). It used to start first time every time BEFORE this service now it takes 10+ pulls switching between choke on/choke off and hand holding the accelerator to get it going - can someone make a suggestion please?
1 answer
I think your Local Council man might have put the fuel lines on the wrong way there is 2 fuel lines coming from the tank just pull them off the carby and reverse them 1 is to draw the fuel up to the carby the other is a return line to the tank from the carby.

What is the easy way to adjust the trimmer cable?
1 answer
Not sure what Cable You are taking about if it is the Nylon Feed Line it will be cut off to the correct length once you start your Machine or make sure the nylon Feed Line is only about the length of your palm of you hand and it should be no trouble for you

I Have a Honda 4 stroke UMS425U it will start perfectly Idling as soon as I exelorate it dies on me. What would be the problem?
3 answers
make sure you flick the choke back to run position once it warms up. Other then that it may need a tune up.
I sure you put the choke back in the run position then try a new spark plug and have new petrol Petrol does go off after a few months
Check the Fuel Lines are not bent if you have one that is kinked there is your Problem pull it off and cut a small piece off to shorten the fuel line do one at a time don't mix them up
One is for the Filter and the other is for the return fuel

Looking at buying a honda 4 stroke whipper snipper.
Can you operate them on their side to do the edges?
And can I store them hanging up?
Will i have problems with the oil by doing so?

I have been using mine for 3 years now, at all angles, with no problems whatsoever. Also, I am a left handed user, so I hold it differently to start with.
As for handing it by the spool, I have no idea as mine are stored horizontally.
I have used mine on the side for 2 years now with no problems. I store mine flat so can't help you there. Still starts first time, every time.
I hang mine from garden shed roof...by using hooks....starts every time. Aftervon pull of the cord

my line keeps breaking without notice right where the line exits the head so bumpfeed wont work.
every 30 seconds i am having to stop the trimmer, remove the spool and manually wind out a length of line before putting it back together. it works for another 30 seconds or so before the line breaks again.
how can i fix this?
I have owned it for less than an hour and this is the first time using this model. i have NEVER had this happen so often in my life. i am at the point where i want to throw the bloody thing out. what a waste of $350. NOT. HAPPY!

If you wound the line onto the spool I can only guess that it is on backwards. Try removing the line from the spool and rewind it onto the spool in the opposite direction. As it is a new trimmer, if that doesnt work take it back to the dealer and get them to show you.
I didn't wind the line onto the spool, it was already wound on when i picked it up from the dealer.
Not sure why its doing this.
I received a tip from the Honda salesman when I purchased my whipper snipper. He suggested keeping your cord in water to prevent it getting brittle - it works outstandingly. It makes it easier to wind on, reduces coiling, and makes the cord last longer.
Tinaasked
I am having trouble winding the cord on the spool in a way that works so you can bump and get more line. Just uses up the line in 5 minutes.

What size line are you using? If it is 2mm it will be gone in about 30 seconds. The spool will fit 3mm from memory, and with that size it is incredible how well it cuts, and how long it lasts. I am presently using 2.7mm which is not too bad. As for bumping the head, because of the durability of the thicker line I dont bump, I hand feed it when it needs it( mostly because I wore out the last head bumping it on hard ground ). There are 2 ways to wind the line on. When you pull the head off you will notice 2 round holes. Feed line into one hole and back out the other( they are quite close together) then take one length through the slot so you have one line to wrap on the top section and one on the bottom section.
The other way was to take a length of line, double it over and squeeze it at the halfway mark. now pop the bent over bit of line onto the cutout bit of the head so 1/2 is on the top section and half is on the bottom section. bit hard to explain, sorry.
Thank you for your helpful information. I will try your suggestions.

I cannot work out. How to put new line on the cutting head? Do I have to replace head when line runs out?
2 answers
No. unless you hit the trimmer head to hard rock. Just open the head cover and replace the line.
Even though this is a different model, install as per video, takes 2 minutes and you are good to go. Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCtEn_fRL6U

Can i use my 425U bent shaft upside down to do edges?? Will this damage the motor? Will the oil go to the top end and leave the crank dry?
3 answers
I'm not a mechanic but I don't see any reason why not as long as the fuel line can get fuel into the engine. Check the manual to be 100% sure.
I am a mechanic. This is a 4 stroke motor so fuel has nothing to do with it. The manual doesnt say anything about it.
Yes upside down is fine. It has a spinning lubricator so any angle is good
