Honda UMS425U Questions & Answers (page 2 of 2)

I cannot work out. How to put new line on the cutting head? Do I have to replace head when line runs out?
No. unless you hit the trimmer head to hard rock. Just open the head cover and replace the line.
Even though this is a different model, install as per video, takes 2 minutes and you are good to go. Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCtEn_fRL6U
Can i use my 425U bent shaft upside down to do edges?? Will this damage the motor? Will the oil go to the top end and leave the crank dry?
I'm not a mechanic but I don't see any reason why not as long as the fuel line can get fuel into the engine. Check the manual to be 100% sure.
I am a mechanic. This is a 4 stroke motor so fuel has nothing to do with it. The manual doesnt say anything about it.
Yes upside down is fine. It has a spinning lubricator so any angle is good
How do i get the line feeder to work, the line broke off?
Where can a download a manual for my whipper snipper UMK 425U and also the manual for the pole pruner attachment?
Try contacting the Honda shop 92743555

Had my UMS425u for couple of years now having trouble getting it started When it does start runs for only a few seconds Can you tell me how to fix it without taking to Honda dealer? i don't want to pay $150 service fee plus parts If in the end I will have to buy a new one
You may get a couple of bucks for it at a scrap metal dealer.
But, seriously, the economics just don't add up, taking in regard the price of new snippers.
Also you have no guarantee that it won't br...
thanks. i was thinking along the same lines. what brand have you now got
Your Honda should last longer than "just a couple of years". With the servicing, I've owned motorbikes for many years and unless you keep up with maintenance on any "small" engine you'll run into trou...
Read moreble. If you didn't service your car for a couple of years that would stop as well, so getting your brush cutter looked at once a year, is money well spent.Hi can the UMS425U have a brushcutter blade attached ? If so is there a product code ? part # ?
Thank you for the email. Mine came with bump head but I was advised that you could fit a blade head also. I do not know what the part # would be, best checked with someone who works for Honda or your ...
Read morelocal dealer as they might be able to shed further light as to what is available in your area. One thing I do know is that the bump head I have will only work with a 2.4mm line - it hates any different.I don't believe this unit is made for a blade and on Honda's website they don't recommend it (probably why it's so much cheaper than their other models).
Hi, I have a Honda UMS426U and it starts well, but stalls if you open the throttle fully. It runs OK with the throttle half open and I have cleaned the air filter, checked the choke, spark plug etc Any ideas? I use standard ULP and it appears clean.

Sorry to hear you have those issues. Since my initial post, I got the unit back from service/repair. It starts (which it had stopped doing) but I can confirm that I have the same issue as you have rep...
Read moreorted! If you open the throttle up, it will run for a minute or two and then cuts out. Checked air filter, checked plugs the lot and still does it. I even thought I'd run premium ULP to make sure it wasn't a fuel problem. The only thing I can think of is that it somehow overheats? My unit is now out of warranty (12 months is up) so I'm just using it do the edges, nothing overly strenuous. Would seriously not recommend this unit for anything needing medium-heavy duty. Hope you can get yours sorted :-)Hi Dtrain,
I don't think my problem is overheating as it behaves the same way immediately it starts, without load. I wonder if the ignition module has a problem in yours, or there is some mechanism...
Read more that causes it to choke/flood when running at full speed?I have the same problem, runs fine for 2 mins then just dies. Incredibly frustrating.
Very disappointed, as I got tired of a run of cheap 2 stroke cutters from Bunnings and thought I would spend mo...
How do I change the oil?
Undo the cap upend and drain - as simple as that. I keep an old oil container for tool oil and take it to my local tip for recycling when its full. refill with the correct grade and volume (80 mil ie ...
Read more0.08 litre ) - all of which should be explained in your manual - or download a PDF version on line from Honda. But basically fill it till it is more or less full when horizontal. Apparently it is important to use the proper 4 stroke grade high detergent oil, recommended is an (SG,SF) 10W-30 motor oil or get the original Honda oil from a supplier - like your Honda (even a bike) shop.change nylon line
How do you change it? Pretty easy, the bump feed isn't too bad on this model. Unclip the end piece and remove the spindle. For 2.7mm line I've found two arm spans is the right length. Find the midpoin...
Read moret of the cord you have just cut and make a U shape over the slit in the middle of the spindle. Firmly but securely wind the line onto the respective "hemispheres" of the spindle. When near the end feed one end through the notch towards the top and the other on the other side of the spindle. Gently replace the spindle and feet the stubs of line out the holes on the trimmer head. Replace the end piece, start it up and bump a couple of times to even the cord out.My trimmer has developed a shaft vibration down 2wards the head. What 2 do?
Hi Wazza, \I suggest you take it to your local garden tools store and get it inspected, sounds like it might need a new inner cable; being a Honda, I don't expect it will be cheap to repair, Jawen43
I've just bought a second-hand Honda (after using many and varied in the past) and the problem could be in the placement and/or the fitting of the blade (unless you're using the line-trimmer). Refer t...
Read moreo page 47 in the manual where it gives you a good view of the parts, but I found you need to align the hole properly, for this look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2Vah4t_irc PaulHI,
I just bought this trimmer today and I have to say I am bloody impressed, it is easily the best trimmer I have ever bought. However I am having trouble with loading line. I have tried every way I think is right but it will not bump feed. Please help me?
Hi Gary,

G'day. try winding the cord in the direction of the arrow indicated on the spool, the arrow indicates either a left hand wind or a right hand wind, if the line is not advancing when bumped on the grou...
Read morend try winding the cord in the opposite direction. if this fails! release throttle and wait for spool head to stop spinning and with both hands hold the two pieces of cord while pressing the button in the middle of the spool head whilst pulling the cord, this will advance the line. impractical and yes it defeats the purpose of the bump feed head but it works and this method will reduce the damage caused by impacting the spool head on the ground continually. I will look into it and see if the head needs to be stationery while depressing the bump feed head on the ground to advance the line or if it will advance while still spinning... hummmm!I have another head i would like to fit that is easier to feed that the included DT4 bump head.
I have removed all but the metal base and thread part of the head and am stuck there.
This is unfortunately not covered in the owners manual, does anyone know where to proceed from this point?
