Before I purchased an Elitebook 1040 G1 Notebook, I was Hewlett Packard’s greatest fan. In fact, they would be hard pressed to find anyone more dedicated to their brand. From day one of starting my own business everything has been HP – laptops, monitors, docking stations and printers.
When it comes to specifications and performance, very little if anything separates one computer brand from another. In my view, it’s the quality of after-sales support that’s the real differential and this is where HP is in a class of its own and it’s been the...Read more
key reason for my loyalty. However, I think even the normally patient and diligent computer technicians at HP Support must be at wits end when it comes to the Elitebook 1040 Notebook series. Now I started with a G1, upgraded to a G2 and was then convinced to buy a G3 and each one has been a total disaster. Print errors, system crashes, hard-drive failures and problems with the installation of Windows updates have become everyday events. Call HP Support and you’re most likely to find troubleshooting is kept to a minimum and the solution ‘du jour’ is to reinstall the operating system. While this might make life easier if you’re a HP support technician, it has the opposite effect on HP customers. In one case, I was forced to reinstall the Windows 10 operating system four 4 times in as many weeks only for the hard-drive to fail and was then given a new machine only to have the same experience with the replacement unit. While those at Microsoft advise against reinstalling the operating system and declare this should only be done as a last resort, call HP about a problematic Elitebook and it won’t be long before it’s the only solution on offer. Then, when that doesn’t work, they’ll offer to swap your machine for a new one. In fact, my EliteBook 1040 G3 has been replaced 3 times this year. Had I known the frustration and disruption I would face not to mention the hours of valuable time I would lose, I would never have purchased the first one or allowed myself to be convinced upgrading to the next model up would save the day. Do yourself a favour, if you find yourself shopping for laptop or notebook – choose a HP for sure. But if you see or hear the word Elitebook …. Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
