The Leather is an Achilles’ heel of this Product - No Service Centre in Australia
I have had the HP Spectre Folio Convertible 13-aka0028tu for almost four months now, and the laptop is the bee's knees. Great to work with and looks beautiful wrapped in leather. I purchased the unit directly from HP online as no retailer in Queensland had the model I was looking for at the time.
Recently I started to notice the stitching in the leather at the front side of the laptop was started to come undone. Now the stitching has come apart just under the mouse and under the space when you would place your hand on the right side of the ...Read more
mousepad. I am not sure what the issues are but the stitches are quite small, and it also seems to be held together by glue as well. Anyway, it is still under warranty and having purchased next business day service for a premium, and one would think that the process to have the stitching repaired is quite straight forward. Not so according to HP service. This series of laptops that has the leather not as a cover, but as part and parcel of the unit itself has only one service centre that can repair the HP Spectre Folio Convertible, and that centre is only in Singapore! One centre in the whole world to service a laptop sold in Australia. I was told that the only option I had was to have the laptop picked up and sent to Singapore. Where it would take between 5 - 7 business days for the replacement of the leather to be done (why replace the leather case and not repair the stitching? I don't know). But I also need to be aware that if part was not available at the Singapore Service Centre, it would need to be ordered and that would result in further delays. The HP "engineer" nor her manager would say how long this could be!
Purchased in December 2021 at HPAustralia.
