Couldn't get it running until I learnt of the Manual choke.
TS 242I purchased the TS 242 and used it twice. Then it stopped. I read everything in the manual and I've used ride on mowers before and still couldn't get it to start/ kick over. It sounded like it needed more choke...
Turns out some of the mowers have a faulty choke line. There's a manual override under the hood at the front of the engine. If you hold down the choke lever and press the electronic starter button it will work every time. Do this and then go get the choke adjustment done from the dealer. The dealer said it's quite common and once the adjustment is done, it's all sorted. Using this method also doesn't affect the engine, it's just a pain popping the hood and reaching over everytime to start it.
Great mower after a few teething problems.
TS 246I have had this mower for approx. 2 1/2 years during this time apart from a cutter head bearing collapsing and the fuel filler cap needing THOR to open or close it has been excellent.
I cut 5 pretty steep acres and traction is good with the body thrown over to compensate.
Very fast ground speed and cutting.
My neighbour bought one several months ago and the front wheel fell off on the 2nd mow ???
I like the mower
great no drama except reversing it of the ute was a bit tense
TS 242i read the reviews ... almost didnt buy it..
look when someone said it lights up like a disco when you try to turn it on i was pretty much going to leave it ..
then i went in had a look and the dealership was the best service i have received. now have done about 10 hours.
no problems. start first time everytime. no dramas. the light just tell you when you have forgetted to do something.... blades still on park brake engage... took on 6 foot grass 2 runs over looks like it was never 6 foot. except all the loose grass. husq rep gave us the r

TS 242After 10 years of using an LTH1842 with the Kohler motor, 600 hours of pretty much trouble free mowing, I upgraded to the TS242 with B&S motor, "smart switch" and "quick release" blades. Whereas the old mower was easy to start, had trouble-free blades/spindles, the new improved TS242 is the exact opposite. Extremely annoying to start as the smart switch is the dumbest thing I have ever seen on a lawnmower. Always a pain to start, lights flashing like a disco, the battery takes a pounding whereas the old one would start with a simple, single tur

I have smashed the covers, the quick release mechanism, and a blade, and a spindle shattered into 9 pieces as this system is only any good if you have bowling green style lawns. So if you have a bush block, you will NOt want one of these. I have converted the blades to LTH1842 system, and am just adding a dumb ignition switch that uses, of all things, a KEY...so I now have a lesser mower than the old one, as the B&S motor is rubbish compared to the old Kohler..

Issues are non stop
TS 242Nice to use, pretty comfy and good turning circle are about the only positives.
Under 10 hrs - missfiring, back firing, bearing went and the battery died. The deck has split, yes I hit a rock but the pressed steel is like soft butter. Avoid rocks... or anything but soft short grass for that matter. Had a horrid squeal/scraping noise when moving/driving. Pulled the front wheel off and found no grease on the spindle and the washer had started tearing the spindle out. Pulled all the wheels off to find they were the same. Cleaned and greased
Poor quality machine
TS 242Bought this in September 2015.
I live on a hilly country property and clearly it is designed for flat ground. The whole chassis feels as if it twists going over any sort of bump and I feel it will some day snap in half. To start with I had endless problems with starting. The engine would flood and it could never be started warm. I see many people have had similar experiences. If it stalled it would have to be left sitting for 24 hours before it could be started again. The dealer eventually fixed this by replacing the auto choke system with

The left mower spindle has just cracked, presumably some how due to another stick hitting it. For perfectly flat ground with no trees it seems to cut nicely enough and I would have liked to keep using it but...... I've bought a second tractor for cutting the grass. The TS242 has been an expensive mistake.
A few problems to start with, but now it's fine
TS 246Purchased one of these over the 2016 Christmas break, from a dealership in Geelong.
I had a lot of issues with it to start. After it was delivered, it ran perfect for 10 minutes then stopped all of a sudden and would start again. It appeared to have flooded itself, so we let it breathe and tried again a few hours later, had trouble getting it to start but it eventually did, ran for another 10 minutes and stopped again, same issue with flooding.
Called dealership, they brought us over a new one. We had the exact same problem with this one.
... Read more We took out the filter and removed the foam sleeve that sits around the filter. Couldn't see anything in the manual about this, perhaps was just there for transit from factory and wasn't removed in pre-sale checks. Started up better this time. The first 0 to 5 hours had several random stops, but then I ran it from 5-10 hours continually (did a lot of hauling with the trailer that day) and haven't had any issues since. Now on about 25 hours and it's been a dream since 10 hours. Maybe it just takes some time to "wear in"? Just a heads up for anyone else who has these problems with it. Cuts great, no signs of clippings so it must cut them very fine. Was worried about using it on a sloped paddock but it climbs all the hills around my yard with no issues.worse mower ever
TS 2422 hours old and 1.5 hours of that is trying to start it only will start after sitting all night warmed it up and tied choke in off position still wont start when hot checked spark and is a very week also I think both spindels have failed as they were to hot to touch and making horrible sound with blades engaged not happy and would not not buy 1 of these heaps of crap if I had my time over

TS 242This mower has broken numerous times. If it goes over a stone or a stick it breaks. Not at all hardy. Unless you have flat land with low grass, I wouldn't bother. Would never purchase one of these again. I have spent more money fixing this machine than it cost.

This is a great mower
TS 242Bought this mower 3 weeks ago and was concerned with the reviews about issues starting when warm. I asked the dealer (Red Shed in Mitcham Victoria) and they said it is because people try to start it in the "Cold" setting (putting the throttle to the maximum) and it floods the engine. Actually, this cold setting is used when the temperature is zero or less, which is probably of not much use in Australia. Mowed 3/4 of an acre 2 weeks ago on undulating terrain which in parts is just dirt, rocks and sticks on a 10-15 degree slope and not a problem.

TS 242Like a lot of others I was very unhappy the very same day I bought this mower as it would not start when it was warm. I had been using a 2005 model LTH1842 for 9.5 years with never a single starting problem, it was brilliant and had 604 hours on it when I recently sold it to get a new one as we have a lawn that gets bigger every year.
After reading the bad reviews about not starting I printed them off and went straight back to the dealer, a small dealer in a country town. He was extremely upset that this problem was not reported to him by Hu
... Read moresqvarna. He rang them while I was there, and the rep said they had a "fix" for it. Imagine his surprise that Husqvarna Australia had a fix for a well know problem but failed to tell the dealers..I spoke to the rep myself, and told him of another problem I had re-programming the smart switch start code. He said there were some mowers shipped that would not let you change the code using the procedure in the book that comes with the mower. He emailed the fix to the dealer and I have today re-programmed the start code OK. The dealer did the "fix" on my mower that would not start 3 days in a row when warm (started OK when cold every time) and today I started the mower a dozen times cold, warm and hot without a problem. The fix is a very simple job to adjust the bracket on the thermostat that controls the auto choke. Husqvara mowers in my previous experience are bloody good mowers, the old one had a Kohler motor, a gem of a thing, never used a drop of oil in 604 hours. The TS242 has a Briggs & Stratton motor, which appears to be a very nice powerful motor, time will tell if its as reliable as the Kohler. Time will also tell if my wife can handle the idiotic smartswitch, which is the dumbest thing I have ever seen on a mower. So anyone that has a TS242 that will not start warm, take it back to your dealer and get them to adjust the thermostat bracket and all will be well. If they say they are not aware of the fix, tell them to ring the sales rep for southern Queensland as he is the one I spoke to. The power of the internet wins again....DAVIDTerrible
TS 242Bought a Husqvarna TS242 after recommendations from a few dealers, lawn on a slope and lock diff would be advantageous. Picked it up from the dealer and did 0.2hrs before it destroyed the left hand blade spindle. Then wouldn't start when I wanted to load it in the trailer. Tried to restart 10 then 20 then 1 hour later with no joy. Took it back to the dealer and had it back within 2 hours with a new spindle and the right hand side checked to see if the same issue was present. Have not had a failure since and have done 20 odd hours mowing. The on
... Read morely fault that still exists is the hard starting. It will start cold every time and once hot, it has no problem as well. The problem is when the engine is warm. If you stop it, it goes into cold start mode, cranks for 5 seconds but will not fire. This floods the engine and you have to wait for a good hour or more before it will start. The only way around the problem is to manually move the choke linkage to the off position and crank the engine. It will start and pours black smoke out until it clears its lungs and then runs fine. The engine and controlling system is built by Briggs and Straton, a company that have been building engines for an eternity and still can't get it right. I believe the system is designed for European conditions but fails miserably in Australia. The dealer pre-delivery was a joke as well. The front wheels toe'd in that much it left black marks on concrete when driving it in the shed. Would not recommend this product to anyone else. Product update, I've now done 34hrs mowing with it and only had 4 issues in total. Latest to go was an idler pulley on the mower deck. To the dealers credit, they trusted me to remove and fit the new one (supplied under warranty) which saved me having to load the piece of junk up and cart it back to them. I've also had them disable the auto choke function, it now has manual choke only and will start every time hot, cold or indifferent. If its warm or hot, you leave the choke alone, if its cold it requires minimal time while cranking in the choke mode to get it going.Find out how Husqvarna 200 Series compares to other Ride-On Mowers

One of the worst decisions made
TS 242I purchased a Husqvarna TS242 late last year. At 2 hours, it would not start. Back to the dealer. I was told a solenoid on the starter motor. At 8 hours, machince againe would not start so back to the dealer. The module with the start buttons had failed and was replaced. At 14 hours, machine started making strange noise then lost all drive. I am told it's possibly a puley failure but the dealer will need to confirm. I contacted Husqvarna and was told that when you get new machines, the problems generally come out early in its life and they will

TS 242Well I was recommended this mower, as the property we have has a slope and this mower is one of only a few on the market that has a locking diff, so after driving it around to get used to it for less than 20min, I put the park brake on jump off to attend to something when, the mower backfires and stalls, so jump back on to start it, no go, wait 1/2 hour thinking it maybe flooded, it still will not start, I read the manual and it's telling me the battery is flat from what the lights are showing, so I charge the battery for 3 hours jump back on i

TS 242I purchased a Husqvarna TS 242 in October 2015. I had visited their Husqvarna dealership several days before and spoken to the Sales Manager who told me the cheaper model was using pressed steel rather than cast so spending more and getting the TS 242 was a better option.
On receiving the mower I had difficulties starting and phoned but they could not think of any reasons for difficulties. Around two weeks later the accelerator cable disconnected and would only run at full revs. As it was close to the first service I was told it was OK to
Just Awesome
TS 242I have owned this mower for 2 months now and i think it is the best mower i have owned, i had a John deere L100 before i purchased this machine and i spent most of it's time in the dealership. the Husqy gives a very good ride and great steering, i have not had a single problem. Thanks Husqvarna
New TS242 no good!
TS 242Seems to be a common problem with this batch of mowers. Similar experience; less than three hours easy mowing and some belt squeal [common, I am told ] then there was a metallic rumble so shut down and called dealer to take the thing away [two weeks gone now].
Told yesterday we are amongst a number waiting for a new mandrel [or spindle] as the deck belt is set too tight from the factory. I understand there is now a bulletin telling dealers to reset belt tension at pre delivery.
Not happy as I need to keep on top of the lawns with the fire sea

It is a nice machine to use; but I have little confidence as to longevity
Crap so far
TS 242So Husqvarna have just released new model mowers in Australia. And One of the big reasons I bought this mower is because it's got a five year warranty. If things keep going the way they are my mower will spend a lot of those five years at the dealer.
I drove the mower off the trailer once I got it home and turned it off to fill with fuel. After filling it with fuel it wouldn't restart. Spoke to the dealer and he said it's probably flooded. He said let it sit for 20 minutes and then try again. I let it sit for 20 minutes. Wouldn't start. Let it
Ok so here is a bit of an update. Firstly I'll say that I think my dealer has been good and done the best he can. Although I'm not convinced I'm not being told the odd white lie. (During my shopping p
... Read morerocess he told me that he does a thorough pre-check on the mower before he sells it and that not all dealers will do this. I cross-shopped at another Husky dealer and he said ALL Husky dealers are required to do this as part of being a licenced Husky dealer). The mower spent two weeks at the dealer getting its issues sorted out (mostly). The dealer said that my quill/spindle should have had ten bearings but only had four and there was no grease on the bearings where there should have been. Got told it came from the factory like that and that I was one of an unlucky couple to have this issue in Australia (no way of knowing that's true).Working all good now. Haven't used other ride-ons but it seems like a good machine now that the teething problems are sorted
