Good on the open road but hard-riding around town
Bought the car new and owned the car for almost 19 years. Very economical, reliable car. Maintenance has been scheduled servicing and very little else. Plenty of carrying capacity. A lot of road noise. The shock absorbers and the seats are a bit hard. Foot on the clutch required for starting. Great value for money.
Purchased in January 2021.

Grea reliable car
Great family car has plenty if room in back seats for an adult. Cheap to run getting around 600kms to a tank. Huge space in trunk with seats that can fold down. Cheap to service and have never had any problems. Great sound system with full hands free and blu tooth phone connection.
Purchased in August 2021 at Hyundai Dealers for $21,999.00.

soo reliable
I’ve had this car for 5 years. It’s sturdy and cheap to take care of, even though I use it for daily long distance travel it handles itself quite well. I don’t get it serviced as much as I should and it still does surprisingly well and is reasonably reliable.

Amazing
myself and my family used this car everyday for almost 10 years, it was amazing with only small problems here and there like spark plugs going. This car saved me as i was in a car crash and the crumple zones i the front of it helped me. I really recommended this vehicle

I still love this car!
My partner always says I love the car more than her and the kids but it's because it's been so handy including taking supply's too and from work as the back space size is really good. The car fuel is ok but only because we wish we had gotten gas over unleaded as the price is going up and this car takes a fill every second to third week!

Hunk of Junk
It's noisy. AC is noisy and inadequate. It's economical. Shock towers go clunk. Carpet wear holes early. Seatbelts stop retracting early and fall out onto the road or you have to put it on your seat. Seat belts tighten around your neck and hurt. The cd player is useless half the buttons stop working. The clock is not adjustable after around 100 thousand kays. The keyfob will lock your car if you leave the keys on the seayt and arm your alarm which goes of at all random hours of the night. All in all an annoying heap of poo. When I sold it I smiled as I seen it drive away

2002 Accent has never skipped a beat.
Fuel efficient (I got 750km out of a tank on the highway). No issues, just general wear and tear (such a door handles needed replacing, window winder broke etc). Also the paint job started to fade just after the 5 year warranty ran out. I'm about to trade for a later model Accent but this car has been a dream the last 14 years I have had it..

Just what I am looking for
the car handles well. It suits my need. I needed a car for work that is not big and not use up too much petrol. This is just right for my needs for now.It is small enough but spacious enough. When I transferred to a new place all my things fit in the car. I did not have to go back and forth to bring all my stuff. I had time to arrange all my stuff and not be too tired to work the next day.

Great little car
I am about to sell this car only due to wanting a bigger car and not liking having 2 doors.
Other than that, I got this car second hand about 3 years ago, its great on petrol, its zippy, its stylish, very cheap to run and maintain.
When i first got it there was a problem with the auto transmission, some sort of connection / computer problem and it wasnt changing gears properly, was abit clunky. it was a simple and cheap fix and never had a problem since. Might i add its up to 176km now still driving smoothly
Would recommend this car :)

great small car for around town!!
I purchased my 2003 accent in 2005 with around 30,000ks. I have since put a further 85,000ks on it. In the 8 years have only had a few minor issues with it. The main concern - went through a phase where it would not start at all. Something to do with the built in immobliser not recognising the key. This would happen regularly then stop then start happening again. It then all of a sudden was fine. Only ever needed 1 new battery and that was 6 months ago. Small things start happening after 100,000ks like the door handles breaking but this is more...Read more
due to the cars age. Car was great around town with excellent fuel consumption however on the highway fuel consumption not so great. Still handles out of town trips well. Not the best when air con is on (struggles). Would be a perfect car for single or young teen getting around town. Only getting rid of now for a more family sized car. Never had any real problems, have driven on 400k trips with ease. I have not yet replaced the timing belt but it is recommended after 100,000kms Very fuel efficient $45-$50 a tank. Great zip round town. Comfortable drive. Struggles with air con on (you almost have to go back a gear), cheap plastic for door handles and interior (expected though), not the prettiest car to look at, noisy but thats expected with a cheap small car.2 comments
Honestly pal, undo two screws to change the tail light. It took me less than 60 seconds.

Very ordinary
We purchased the 2005 model with 70k on the clock in 2009. For a small car, it is reasonably spacious inside, with good boot room and handy to park. The interior is of reasonable quality, with a functional instrument cluster. The car however was marred by little issues, gearbox (auto), some electrical and handling. Overall, while the quality is significantly better than the earlier Excels, there is still some way to go. We found the engine while capable for a 1.6L needed more refinement as it was quite noisy and harsh, and struggled a little up some hills.
Good boot size, easy to drive
Poor refinement, niggling issues

2005 Accent
I had a 2005 Hyundai Accent 3 door. It had numerous mechanical problems. (7 years old) It was reliable when I first purchased it. (May it had been neglected by previous owner hence the mechanical issues). Cheap to run. $45 would usually fill the car from empty. KM range per tank 450 on average. Inside basic, also small. But has a HUGE boot. Dont think it would make an ideal family car. Perhaps a good first car though.
Cheap to run, easy to park.
Not the best looking car about.

Reliable
I bought my 2000 Accent three years ago with 50K on the clock and have since added another 45K which has been reasonably trouble free. In that time I have been quite impressed with the reliability and build quality of the car. It has been regularly serviced all it's life so this may have something to do with the good run that I've had. Not too many issues to mention, manual gearshift is a bit notchy and disappointingly the dash lights have recently stopped working (apparently a common fault on the GS model which is the one with the white instru...Read more
ment cluster). The seats are reasonably comfortable except for the rear centre seat which is shaped a bit like a speed hump. Build quality is excellent, feels nice and solid on the road for a small car. It has plenty of poke and cheap on the juice. I would highly recommend buying the Accent if looking for value for money, however make sure that it has been serviced regularly as many are well past their warranty period. Quality build with low running costs Manual gearbox a bit notchySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Almost the worst car I have ever had
Had a 2001 Accent GL 5 door hatchback. Purchased 2nd hand in 2008 for $10K and sold it in 2012 for $2.5K. Had it serviced regulary but had a never ending list of faults, especially electrical. Got to the point where often would not start because immoblizer would not recognise key and then if it did start, would often stall without warning. Interior of car looked and felt very cheap and nasty, poor quality plastics, in one word if you are looking at one of these, LOOK ELSEWHERE
When I got rid of it
Electrical faults galore

Excellent
This car is one of the best (and safest) small cars around. It has enough engine power to do steep hills and cope with frequent interstate trips. The interior space and boot space are amazing for such a small car- across the back seat we have comfortably fit 2 adults and a toddler in a car seat; we have also managed to fit 3 adults, a baby in a car seat, a bassinette, a pram, 3 luggage bags, and a guitar in the car.
The car is also cheap to run in terms of petrol and maintenance costs. It has also been very reliable- no breakdowns in 7 year...Read more
s, and we only once needed to use the 5 year manufacturer's warranty for a boot light problem. Small frame, low-lost to run and maintain, spacious interior. Lights do not switch off when engine is off (has lead to multiple dead batteries!), no central locking.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good
Good little car as a runabout which is what we use it for - very economical but not a very smooth car (manual) and not very good suspension. Very economical on petrol though.
very economical to run, air cond it really good
My model 2001 seems really bumpy on the road and also the gear box is not very smooth -quite jerky going from 1st to 2nd and when the aircond is on it has absolutely no power to get moving if stopped at traffic lights

Good
For the price of the car, the value for money is fantastic. I used to have an Excel which I thought was pretty zippy, but this one is fantastic. The gear change is smooth, the air conditioning is powerful and the overall drive is impressive.
The value and features you would expect from a more expensive car: i.e. power windows, good airconditioning, smooth gear changing, nice interior, large boot.
May be a bit too small for those tall people!

Good
Great small car for single parent families like mine!! Definately worth the money so far. My old car cast me $3000 in 14 months to fix!! Hopefully won't have problems like that as I still have 3 years left of the new care warranty ( I have a 2002 model)
nice compact car with plenty of room. Good on petrol and have owned car for 2 months now. Good Air con and CD player. Love my new car
It is a small car so you have to be aware when driving that you are suitably visible but have had no problems.

A car without the quirks people hate. If you want a vehicle that wont let you down (Provided you keep up the services) is comfortable inside, has deceptively large boot space and drives smoothly in all conditions, then this would explain why Hyundai is on top of the list when it comes to small car safety, value and performance. A great first `real` car and one the will cover the basics but will unlikely cost you in worn parts prematurely. If your thinking about it, then do it.
Completely reliable, Small car with excellent interior space, Easy maneuverability
Changing the light, indicators can be a challenge at first

does the engine have a chain or timong belt on this model accent?
1 answer
All models of most cars, and that includes Hyundai models had "elastic bands" for timing gear.... but the Company replaced them with CHAINS since late 2013 I believe... mine is 2015 YM and had chains on it... and so did the 2013 i20 I had before!

and cheap to fix, it has been very reliable. Its best points are its cheap running costs, seat comfort and air-conditioner that works well even in very hot conditions. Even with 170 kms on the clock it uses hardly any oil. There are, however, a few things I find annoying, but they aren’t anything major. This includes (1) It has way too much road noise. To be fair, this is a problem with most hatchbacks. (2) Even though it drives well enough, and is remarkably balanced for a front-wheel-drive car, it’s not the sort of car you can relax in on the road. In particular, the steering always feels so sharp that you feel that you have to keep alert all the time. Perhaps I was spoiled in my previous Mazda 626?
