Love it!
My parents bought the car in 2004, brand new. Since then, it's done 90,000 km with out a single fault. Since then I have learnt to drive in it (Manual) and it has been passed to me. Surprisingly punchy, with decent power coming from the 2.0L engine.
Honestly, I couldn't survive without it.

Really good
I have HUYNDAI Elantra 2006. I bought it as brand new, I have done 320,000 km already. Most of it on free ways. Never done any repairs besides timing belt change. But one thing I did, i always change engine oil and oil filter on every 3000 km. spark plugs on every 20,000 km and brakes on every 60000 km. Never have any problems at all. I am very happy with the car.

2010 Elantra - Good initially, get rid of it after 4 years
I got a used 2010 Elantra SX in 2011. Only 35,000 kms had been done, with record history and all, serviced every 6 months. Initially I was in awe about it's looks and feel. Great car to zip around in, and it does take off really quick and the handling is pretty good.
At 55,000 kms that is when the problems started, the brake rotors needed to be replaced, it was done under warranty so all was good. I noticed the ESP light on the dashboard would randomly light up sometimes while driving, this turned out to be a faulty electric problem which was...Read more

So far so good
Bought with 120,000KMs on the clock. Had no issues. Great engine reasonable economy. Had a sluggish engine when purchased but found the timing belt was out by a tooth when it was changed (before I bought it) which was fixed under warranty The only complaint is the height of the clutch bite point and how light the clutch pedal is. There is no feel which takes some getting used to but a great little car
Roomy, reasonablty built
clutch action took some getting used to

Excellent family vehicle
We have owned our 2013 Elantra since October 2013. We bought it from DC Motors in Rockhampton. We cannot fault the service provided so far before and after the sale. They even walked us around to the side of the business to show us where we could park the car when we brought it in for its first Look-See after 1500 km just to make sure all was good and that we were happy with the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased for my wife who is quite a tiny lady. She test drove a Lancer and Cerato (nothing wrong with either car - good vehicles) but she sett...Read more
led on the Hyundai. First off it looks like it's doing 120 kph just sitting still in the garage. Very nice/sexy shape. The electric steering is very light and very pleasant to use. The boot is enormous before the back seats fold down and cavernous afterwards. The seats do not lie flat and gives the space a slight upturned banana shape so very long objects e.g. whipper snipper won't fit in. However, you could drive three of your friends and all of their luggage to the airport, no problem. The seats are very comfortable. I have a bad back but today I drove it for 4 hrs from Bundaberg to home in Rockhampton, had a 15 minute break and then drove it to a friend's house. It was like I hadn't stepped into the vehicle all day. No fatigue. My wife loves the sound system/bluetooth features. Pumps out a good sound. Dash layout and instruments are easy to locate and read. Steering wheel controls are easy to understand and well laid out. Cruise control is very smooth. After driving smaller cars for may years I'm only just getting used to the larger turning circle so I think the parking 'disasters' and retries will reduce with more practice. It accelerates very quickly when the pedal is pressed. I'm very cautious when using the accelerator in heavy traffic. I tend to get pushed back into the seat if I drive it like my little Rio. What prompted me to write this review was my drive down to Bundaberg and back again this week. The fuel gauge consists of 12 small horizontal bars laid out vertically on the instrument panel. On the way down it only dropped 1 bar. On the way back it only dropped 1 bar so I'm assuming the fuel gauge isn't broken. Filled it up in Bundaberg with 25 litres. That is all the way from Rockhampton to Bundaberg and 3 days driving around Bundy on only 25 litres for a 1.8L engine. This vehicle is fantastic for only $22K approx. I highly recommend that if you are wanting a solidly built medium sized car that you do not discount a test drive in this vehicle. Comfort, fuel economy, smooth cruise control, sound system, visibility, light steering, overall shape Doesn't have a full sized spare.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great car, surprising power and good economy.
Got the car earlier this year with about 125k on the clock (2006 model), only driven around 3k more but so far it's great. The engine has a surprising amount of power and toruque, can really pull hard even in higher gears. The space inside is great, seats are very supportive and comfortable, and the air con is ludicrously cold. Has cruise control too, which (at the time) wasn't too common for a manual. Fuel economy is sitting at around 9.5l/100km, seen it lower but still not bad. The overall build quality is good too, the plastics are hard but ...Read more
durable, no rattles or sqeaks, only issue is the factory stero, which is a bit loose if poked and prodded. Rides well too. Negatives? The steering wheel is a bit big, and the steering itself can feel light and vague at times and can't really feel the road, especially at lower speeds, and lock to lock it needs a lot of arm work. Better a higher speeds. Overall though, a great and severly underrated car. Power, space, build quality, ride, cruise, economy Vague steering at times, big steering wheelSimilar opinion? 2011 Elantra great before fire
Here are the good points before the car burst into flames.
It is economical. Fuel usage of a small car but space of a medium which is great for a small family. It is very comfortable as I had the premium with leather. Heated seats are great in the winter. Also extras such as the night rear view mirror auto adjusting for lights from behind and parking sensors are great. Most of all it drives well. Therefore you would think that Hyundai would take just a tiny little bit of interest when the car, 18 months old, sitting in my driveway and not use...Read more

Best car ever!!
Purchased my 2001 elantra hatch back in 2008. best car i have ever owned!!!! only had 41xxx km on clock, i have since got it upto 92xxx km. i have it serviced regularly. have only had a couple minor probs with it, 1 being the fuel pressure reg went on me while on the open road :( and had the slave cylinder let go on me. is a very reliable car with brilliant fuel economy, running in town i get 550-600km to the tank and open road i get 800-850km to the tank. have just finshed getting timing service done and has more power then ever before. i will definitely own this car til the day it dies.... and then i will happily go out and buy another one without hesitation :)
Fuel economy, reliability

Wishing I Still Had Her.
2006 HD newer shape after poxy old one. Was still not keen but had low k's and had everything in it. We had the slx model and was amazed by how good it drove, how responsive it was. We drove it home to qld from new mid north coast and used half a tank of fuel for 7 and three quarter hours driving time. Had the car just in 2 years and put and extra 60 000 km on clock. So comfortable, everything at fingertips.

n considered getting another. The only reason we do not have her anymore as some jack)$ s in a patrol ran us off the road in the wet and we ended up backwards in a ditch written off. She held up great panel wise barely a thing wrong. No airbags deployed but underneath was trashed. Would recommend to all. Reliable, inexpensive, fuel miser, enjoyable One hyundai service centre trying to do the dodgy on one of our services, she is written off.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Our new car
Traded our 2000 accent, owned from new, in the purchase of new model elantra march 2012. After 1 year we can report the following a) leaking fuel injecter after 2 weeks. This is a very dangerous problem which was rectified immeadiately our local hyundai dealer found the cause of the fuel smell in the cabin. And b) front parking sensors failed after 6 months due to poor initial installation. The car is a pleasure to drive. The interior is a little "star-trekky" but much more interesting than nearly all the other dash treatments in even much mor...Read more
e expensive vehicles. Lots of nice touches in the cabin, tons of space. The rear seats don't fold flat however and the rear windscreen really needs a washer/wiper. The rightside windscreen pillar is a bit too thick and may initially block vision in some situations. The engine makes good power and the six speed auto is very good. Living in regional nsw this is a great car for us. shape, engine/gearbox combo, 5yr/unlimited km warranty, quick fix for problems fuel injecter leak, front parking sensor failure, needs rear windscreen washer/wiper, front pillar impairs sightSimilar opinion? A diamond in the rough
I've had one of these cars since 2007 (2004 model) and i must say that once having it i haven't had any problems whatsoever. Nearly everything about the car is great.
The engine has enough pep off the lights to make people who have done up POS cars with tinted windows blush (i'd assume, i can't see in the tinted windows). The car can hold a hell-of-a-lot of things. I once packed in a 10 piece drum kit, a bass amp, head and guitar, 2 guitar amps with 2 cabs a piece (all professional sizes as well, none of this small stuff) as well as myself a...Read more
nd a guitarist. The car has no issues driving down the road or driving on the freeway to god knows where. if you're after a good car that doesn't stand out (and seriously, don't do up these cars, they just aren't built for it), one that is reliable in any circumstance, do not look past these cars. THat said, every rose has a thorn or two, and this car is no different. THe automatic transmission isn't the best i've driven with (not the worst either) but it does give away a lot of power due to early changes. This car tends to chew through brakepads as well, but it's better than chewing through transmissions i suppose. THe interior will also start to crumble and fade with time. Basicly it's a cheap car made really well - so all the cheap things tend to go. That said though, it's been an awesome car! Very Reliable, smart car wth storage, can drive really well on long distances. The perfect car for under 10K Automatic didn't handle the engine properly. Would just look for a manual. Tends to eat brakepads. Interior doesn't stand the test of timeSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What did Hyundai do???
My first experience with Hyundai was a 1988 X1 model Excel. Whilst the body was built like a tank, anything else that could go wrong with the car did - specifically the engine made by Mitsubishi. Fast forward 25 years, and you could be forgiven that this vehicle is from a completely different plant than the 2009 HD Elantra. The Elantra is aimed squarely at Toyota's Corolla, and seems to do that with more style, class, features but at a lower price.
We have the base model (the SX), but comes with everything we need with the exception of cruis...Read more
e control (optional extra). Full iPod and MP3 connectivity, and two power sockets is a nice touch. Seats are decently sized and pull button from the rear to fold flat. Plenty of legroom in both front and back with 6'+ people in all seats. Uses a tiny bit too much fuel for my liking, but using Shell V-Power instead of regular unleaded seems to result in around 12-15% better consumption figures, especially around town. Mechanically seems very sound - the Beta II engine kicks out 106kW that was a nice boost from the old Alpha I that we used to own. The automatic gearbox (despite my loathing of them) is quite intelligent and doesn't hunt for gears - even climbing a range. On that note - Hyundai, where's the temperature gauge?!?! That's the first thing I look for when climbing, and it's missing! In short though, if you can get a Hyundai a few years old (we did) the depreciation on them is woeful - so you have a quality car for as little as possible. Classy, reliable, bulletproof. Economical. Parts are cheap and the engine is dead easy to work on. No temperature gauge! Blind spots on rear pillars annoying.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Realiabilty and good fuel consumption.

Love it!
I love this car (GLS trim), I bought it new in 2001, and had the factory spoiler, an electric sunroof, and 16" wheels fitted before I picked it up. I still get comments on how good it looks, and people can't believe it is 11 years old! It still looks like a modern car! The Stock speakers are crisp (upgraded the head unit to a kenwood touch screen for iPod capabilitys) The silver paintwork has held up extremely well, and still shines. The boot is massive, the legroom in the back is very generous for a car of its size, I'm 6"4 and I can sit in th...Read more
e back comfortably if I need to, room in the front is also very generous. Mechanically the car has never missed a beat, it currently has 228,000 Km on the clock and still drives the same as it did the day I got it, never had to spend anything on it except for general maintenance. The car also has plenty of power coming from the 2.0 liter engine (104kw, 182Nm) and is comfortable on the freeway. It is also enjoyable through the bends. It is also not too thirsty at the pump which is a nice bonus! Good looking, good on fuel, plenty of power, well equipped, good build quality, reliable Poor resaleSimilar opinion? Excellent
I borrowed this car from a mate for the day while my car was being serviced and I thought I would give it a little test drive. I ended up finding that the ride was probably smoother than my car and a little quieter as well when on poor quality bitumen. Fuel consumption is good as well so no complaints there and the overall drive was quite impressive as well. I could be looking at one of these when I get my own car soon.
Nice design, interior quality is good and driving ride is smooth.
When turning it's not as tight as my Ford Focus, but it's still good.

Good
My 2000 (2001MY) Elantra hatch has 136,000km, and in my ownership has not missed a beat. Prior to my ownership it had been regularly maintained by its two owners, by the book, and had been reasonably well looked after cosmetically.
The hatch's loading area is massive, putting to shame many small wagons, making the Elantra versatile and stylish.
I do my own routine servicing (aside from the timing belt and fuel filter, which I leave to the professionals) and I've not encountered problems in that regard, and the pricing of genuine parts is on ...Read more

Good
Our Elantra was the first car we had ever bought new and as such I still have very fond memories of it.
We have since traded it in as our family expanded but I would definitely buy it again if it was just the two of us. I'm only taking off one star because the resale or trade in value is so low.
A lot better built than earlier Hyundais.
Best red I've ever seen.
Great 2.0L engine with VVT - as much power as a BMW 318i without the price.
Devastating re-sale value.
Gear change is a bit notchy.
Clutch and throttle are both very light and don't have much feedback.

Great car for the price
We chose the Elantra for a second car (larger people mover as we have a large family). We considered several new cars including the Mazda 3, but chose the Elantra for overall value - the specs we got for the price.
We went for the middle of the range, with leather steering wheel, push button start and keyless entry. Overall we've found the build quality is excellent, the fuel efficiency is great (although unsurprisingly not quite what the specs rate it at) and it's been a dream to drive.
Pros: It's a comfortable ride with great space insi...Read more
de and in the boot, you would not think of it as a 'small' car. Travels well even at speed, very quiet engine, features all work well together. Looks great on the road, you feel great driving it. Cons: 'Auto' wiper sensor is a little sensitive, you find it goes from too slow to too fast whilst using it. Fuel consumption gets down to maybe 7.5 L/100K at best, in our experience so far (highway driving). Bluetooth in built in stereo can be a bit finicky too. Hyundai servicing are not the cheapest, and staff not always the friendliest. Not exactly a racehorse on the road, but still quite responsive. Overall though we'd highly recommend it. Reliable car, cheap to run, great features for the price. Minor issues with auto wiper speed, bluetooth a bit fussySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good
I rented this car for 14 days as my Mazda 2 (which i adore) was being repaired after an accident. I find the Elantra quite surprisingly very good. Despite feeling "heavy" the vehicle was very comfortable, economical and very reliable. The stereo system is excellent and the boot space was just amazing for a car of it's size. I am a huge fan of an attractive dashboard and found the Elantra's interior attractive. The heater was very powerful that i had to turn it down on many occasions. I am very impressed with this car. Highly recommended.
Comfort, amazingly huge boot, brilliant stereo, pwr steering, economical, strong air con/heater and attractive dashboard.
The car can feel "heavy"
