Really good
I have HUYNDAI Elantra 2006. I bought it as brand new, I have done 320,000 km already. Most of it on free ways. Never done any repairs besides timing belt change. But one thing I did, i always change engine oil and oil filter on every 3000 km. spark plugs on every 20,000 km and brakes on every 60000 km. Never have any problems at all. I am very happy with the car.

2010 Elantra - Good initially, get rid of it after 4 years
I got a used 2010 Elantra SX in 2011. Only 35,000 kms had been done, with record history and all, serviced every 6 months. Initially I was in awe about it's looks and feel. Great car to zip around in, and it does take off really quick and the handling is pretty good.
At 55,000 kms that is when the problems started, the brake rotors needed to be replaced, it was done under warranty so all was good. I noticed the ESP light on the dashboard would randomly light up sometimes while driving, this turned out to be a faulty electric problem which was...Read more
also fixed under warranty, other lights are faulty though, and light up or dont light up when the should. On start-up I noticed a new whirring sound, this eventually turned out to be a dodgy air-con belt, which was replaced at my expense. At 70,000kms this sound has begun to occur again, I hardly use the air-con, except on really hot days in summer. Occasionally when switching the car on the engine will vibrate so much it will case the whole car to violently vibrate, this was something new. At 80,000 kms took it in for a major service, to find that there was a big oil leak in the engine and the leak was right above the spark plugs. Which car has an oil leak in the engine at 80,000 kms serviced every 6 months????? The part with the leak needed to be replaced along with the spark plugs, costing me nearly $1,000. After that I was extremely dissatisfied with the car. Good fuel consumption for city driving and doing the errands, but not so good fuel wise on freeways. If you get this car get rid of it before it reaches 100,000 kms, I dread to see what problems will pop up next.

Wishing I Still Had Her.
2006 HD newer shape after poxy old one. Was still not keen but had low k's and had everything in it. We had the slx model and was amazed by how good it drove, how responsive it was. We drove it home to qld from new mid north coast and used half a tank of fuel for 7 and three quarter hours driving time. Had the car just in 2 years and put and extra 60 000 km on clock. So comfortable, everything at fingertips.
It treated us great and would highly recommend it. Even though it was not my cup of tea, it did what we wanted and needed and have eve...Read more
n considered getting another. The only reason we do not have her anymore as some jack)$ s in a patrol ran us off the road in the wet and we ended up backwards in a ditch written off. She held up great panel wise barely a thing wrong. No airbags deployed but underneath was trashed. Would recommend to all. Reliable, inexpensive, fuel miser, enjoyable One hyundai service centre trying to do the dodgy on one of our services, she is written off.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What did Hyundai do???
My first experience with Hyundai was a 1988 X1 model Excel. Whilst the body was built like a tank, anything else that could go wrong with the car did - specifically the engine made by Mitsubishi. Fast forward 25 years, and you could be forgiven that this vehicle is from a completely different plant than the 2009 HD Elantra. The Elantra is aimed squarely at Toyota's Corolla, and seems to do that with more style, class, features but at a lower price.
We have the base model (the SX), but comes with everything we need with the exception of cruis...Read more
e control (optional extra). Full iPod and MP3 connectivity, and two power sockets is a nice touch. Seats are decently sized and pull button from the rear to fold flat. Plenty of legroom in both front and back with 6'+ people in all seats. Uses a tiny bit too much fuel for my liking, but using Shell V-Power instead of regular unleaded seems to result in around 12-15% better consumption figures, especially around town. Mechanically seems very sound - the Beta II engine kicks out 106kW that was a nice boost from the old Alpha I that we used to own. The automatic gearbox (despite my loathing of them) is quite intelligent and doesn't hunt for gears - even climbing a range. On that note - Hyundai, where's the temperature gauge?!?! That's the first thing I look for when climbing, and it's missing! In short though, if you can get a Hyundai a few years old (we did) the depreciation on them is woeful - so you have a quality car for as little as possible. Classy, reliable, bulletproof. Economical. Parts are cheap and the engine is dead easy to work on. No temperature gauge! Blind spots on rear pillars annoying.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Excellent car
I am driving a Hyundai Elantra 1.6 (J2). The car has been with me for the past 6 years. I am so pleased, the car is so reliable. The car is in use every day but keeps on going. I'm planning on passing her on to my eldest son. Thanks Hyundai, keep up the good work.
Realiabilty and good fuel consumption.
The front wheels bearings.

Good
I rented this car for 14 days as my Mazda 2 (which i adore) was being repaired after an accident. I find the Elantra quite surprisingly very good. Despite feeling "heavy" the vehicle was very comfortable, economical and very reliable. The stereo system is excellent and the boot space was just amazing for a car of it's size. I am a huge fan of an attractive dashboard and found the Elantra's interior attractive. The heater was very powerful that i had to turn it down on many occasions. I am very impressed with this car. Highly recommended.
Comfort, amazingly huge boot, brilliant stereo, pwr steering, economical, strong air con/heater and attractive dashboard.
The car can feel "heavy"

Good
After having holden and fords, a mazda and BMW, you cannot beat the value of these things. For an everyday car at 19,000 thousand great value. Yes, the finish isn't as good as some others but reliability is the same ad running costs are cheaper, and don't forget the lower price tag means less depreciation in terms of dollars. lets face it after two years you lose about 50% on price on ay new car, that means I have lost 9 compared to about 16 grande on others.I put wider tyres and rims on mine and it drives so much better. I have done over 80,00...Read more
0ks in two years and no problems whatsoever, I had a commodore and falcon previously and the money I saved on running this thing means it has cost me about 30% - 40% less, and trouble free motoring an added bonus. Value for money, good on fuel and servicig costs and reliable not finished as well as a toyota or mazda in terms of paint and interior fitout.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Has given us troubles
We have had this car for over a year that we bought second hand. We travelled from brisbane to melbourne which took 22 hrs over 2 days and it got us here with no problems or difficulties however have since had mechanical problems which have been expensive to repair and are close to spending more on repairs than we paid for the car. However we do still like it as it is our only car and gets my husband to work every day and me to work every night
Family car
Expensive, ongoing problems

Excellent
Overall the Elantra has exceeded my expectations of a small sedan. Ride comfort and performance has put a smile to my face, the gears and light and great to work with. Fuel economy has been fabulous! If you're looking at something in the small car range, check out the Elantra it's one of the most powerful cars in its class with a motor under its bonnet that has proven itself for the past 10years since the RD Lantra's.
Look after her and keep her maintained and she'll reward you with so much. I'm keeping this Elantra for a LONG time!! I love i...Read more
